Re: The Official BBS VA Discussion Thread

Here's Mark Hammil's Luke voice nowadays, from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed USE----

I'll just repeat what I said earlier when this came up - Mark Hamill did notvoice Luke in The Force Unleashed. Here's a link to Wookieepedia to back that up: [link]

The only voice acting Hamill did for Luke after Star Wars ended, apart from joke cameos, was for a commercial for a Star Wars Extended Universe novel in 2000 (in which, interestingly, Luke Skywalker himself was years older). [Link]

As for Terra's VA, I don't particularly care for the idea of casting him as some big actor/VA. I'd much rather see him played by someone under 25. (Is there any way to search IMDB by age range...?)

Here is another scene of Luke from that game. Anybody who says he can't do his Luke voice needs to get hit by the Force. Lol @ getting to beat the crap out of Luke.

If Mark Hamill makes his voice a little different and deeper then he'll make a great Terra.

@Ikkin: I never ever trust any form of Wikipedia ever so I'm not trusting that. If it's true then I want a source other than wikipedia.

Ah...That sucks. Well never mind about that then.

I still have faith in Hamill. And Bale is kinda awkward yes, but it isn't like he hasn't voice acted before. The only reason he is soooo popular now is because of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. And at least Hamill isn't as popular as he was when SW first came out.

Still gunning for Noah Cyrus and Frankie Jonas to do Kairi and Riku/Sora's voices

While Bale is an awkward out of the ballpark from IMDB, it would still be epic to have Batman/American Psycho in this. Also Bale did voice in a Miyazaki film by Disney of Howls Moving castle. I'm not saying that I think he will be Terra, but just at the amount of satisfaction i'd get from it.

I'm willing to bet that they're just going to get one adult female to play as Sora, Riku and Kairi. I can totally see that happening.

If your familiar with one the most versatile voice actress named Tara Strong (Ben -Ben 10, Paine- FFX:2, Raven - Teen Titans, Presea - Tales of Symphonia, etc.) She could easily pull off all 3 with vocal differentiation that would be an easy candidate if an adult would voice the young kids.

I totally forgot about HMC; I absolutely loved him as Howl. Howl's voice was a little too soft for Terra, IMHO, though.

All I can say is, "WHY?" Hayden, HJO, and David do just fine.

EDIT: Wait, NVM.

Tara Strong would be awesome - she's one of the more versatile VAs.

Lol, and Christian Bale as Terra? I won't stop laughing the whole time. I'll either think of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series or think of him doing his horrid guttural voice for Batman.

HAYYYYY.
HIS HOWL VOICE WAS AWESOME. Don't be dissin' Kermit Bale
I would have more faith in Bale for Terra than Hamill imo. I feel like Mark Hamill wouldn't sound young enough to be Terra (But I'm not sure of this since I haven't heard anything recent of him so I'll still reserve judgement and such).

He is talking about their younger counterparts that are in birth by sleep.

Don't get me wrong. I love Bale. And I love Howl. Howl was my muse for months for writing. I think I creeped my friends out a bit over how much I loved Howl. I had pics of his different hair colors in my locker, and I just mad obsessed. (I have this sudden urge to watch the movie now.) And I am a mad Batman fan. When I found out Bale was going to be Bruce Wayne, I think I was hyper for months until the movie came out. -stops herself before going on a Christian Bale rant-

But idk. I trust both but I really want it to be Hamill. But if it is Bale I will be okay about it. Then I'll obsess. Then laugh and call him Batty-Boy. Then laugh more and remember LittleKuriboh. Then obsess over again. And I really don't like Bale's Batman voice.

I guess the thing I'm afraid of is that... well, that there's something inherently cartoony about creating a voice for a character completely separate from one's own. I can't imagine that there isn't some kind of tradeoff between vocal differentiation and emotional resonance, even for the best actors, and Terra can't afford to lose any of the latter.

Choosing someone who's particularly good at cartoony voices does nothing to ameliorate that worry, either, because cartoons tend to revel in that artificiality rather than attempting to hide it. The fact that the Joker is nothing like - and sounds nothing like - a real person is part of what makes him so iconic in the first place. I'm not sure how much carries over between creating iconic characters and creating someone believably human, honestly. =/

Just because Hamill did a cartoony voice for Joker doesn't mean he's going to do the same for Terra (if he is playing Terra).

I agree with your statement on Bale's B-Man voice. Most of the time it sounds like mumbled shouting or like he has some veeners in his mouth.

Just because Hamill did a cartoony voice for Joker doesn't mean he's going to do the same for Terra (if he is playing Terra).
-pops into conversation-
The main problem I have with Hamill is that I don't think is voice is going believable enough for a guy who's supposed to be about 17/18.
It's not that I doubt his talent or anything, it's just that I think he's going to sound to old for Terra and just not be very fitting in general (Although, as I said earlier, I'll still reserve judgement and such).

It's not just because of Joker, though. Almost all of his recognizable credits on IMDB since Star Wars fall into that category. =/ And even Luke Skywalker is more of an icon than a real person, considering George Lucas was intentionally following the Hero's Journey to a T with him.

I'm going to have to agree with you.
None of the rolls Hamill has assumed, not even Luke Skywalker, sound anywhere close to what I imagine Terra should sound like.

If he is voicing Terra, he needs to do something markedly different.
But the problem is, part of what Terra needs is a deep, resounding, masculine voice. Not hating on Hamill, but he certainly isn't the first person I'd pick when thinking of a masculine voice, his is more high pitched. And there's a degree of authenticity you lose when someone without a deep voice is impersonating one.

Someone like Bale, who has that voice to begin with, would be far better suited for the role. Even with Hamill's great range, I'm still doubtful.

Well to be honest I never expected the English voice for Terra to sound anything like the Japanese one to begin with. The Japanese one is TOO deep and makes him sound more like he's in his mid 30s than someone who's supposedly 19 or 20 imo.
