The meaning of the "Mark of Mastery"

I wanted to discuss why Yen Sid believes it is so important for Sora and Riku to be have the Mark of Mastery test:

As we know when Aqua passed the test she didn't really gain any other abilities besides changing the Land of Departure to Castle Oblivion. Yen Sid seems to believe that with the return of MX Sora and Riku are not strong enough to handle what MX might have in stored for them and what minions he might have on his side. Since Terra, Aqua and Ven who all had proper training with there Keyblades had such difficultly fighting oldman MX and Vanitas.

But through KH1, KH:CoM, and KH2 we know that Sora and Riku are extremely strong having defeated very powerful enemies including two different forms of MX (Heartless Ansem and Xemnas). They, IMO, are even more skilled than Mickey but thats only because we havent seen Mickey in a real fight like we have seen Sora and Riku. Sora has fought many enemies and defeated them all, more than hald the Org and Riku took care of the rest. Sora also defeated all the Heartless monsters that he encountered in the other worlds. While Riku learned to balance the powers of darkness and light with him and created a whole new power that we have only had a glimpse of. So what can the Mark of Mastery really bring them?

So the question and discussion I would like to discuss is what do you guys think Sora and Riku will gain after passing the Mark of Mastery test? Discuss!

maybe keyblade gliders and armor? I guess we will have to wait and see, I'm pretty excited for kh 3ds, I'm sure it has to do with the mark of mastery.

Yes, im excited too, but sadly it shows them in there KH1 looks which im sick of...
can we get them in their KH2 look for crying out loud? Or SHOCKER A NEW LOOK!?!
But yes Armor and Gliders would be cool IMO

Yeah that's what I was wondering. The MoM doesn't make you stronger, it just tests how strong you are, and in more ways than one. And also, I doubt gliders and armors have anything to do with being a Master, since Terra and Ven both had them, and Mickey, who is a master, doesn't have either.

But I'm sure that Riku and Sora know what those responsibilities are.
and everyone so far in the game has called at least Sora a Keyblade Master.

Not ALL the responsibilities. They aren't ready for someone like Master Xehanort. Being a Keyblade Master and being a REALLY good Keyblade weilder are entirely different.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Terra call Sora a Keyblade Master or something?

MX stated in a report of his that Keyblade Masters have the power to extract hearts.

We Keyblade Masters have a special gift. We can extract a heart, be it our own or that of another. By continuing this cycle, it is possible to remain in the world of the living forever.

Sounds like a way to get Ven from Sora. And possibly free Terra.

So what we know now is that a Keyblade Master has this power and is able to take on an apprentice.

There's obviously more to the MoM than we know cuz I doubt if Riku and Sora went around parading themselves as Keyblade Masters MX would be impressed. Maybe theirs some information given to them that will be beneficial to the fight OR maybe being Masters will give them privileges to learn new powers or techniques. We don't have much to go by honestly.

Aqua, Terra, and Ven say that line together. And it is true because it has been over ten years since they've been together.

Keyblade Masters have an ability to extract hearts.

Think about it, he needs to get Master Xehanort out of Terra, right? So he could beat him and then have KH3 be over, then the credits, blah blah blah.

For Ventus, he needs to give Ven' heart back to him. That's the only way to really wake up.

Vanitas....well Ven still doesn't have his darkness, and Vanitas is mostly likely still alive in some way or form. To really heal Ven, Sora's gonna need to get Vanitas back into Ven.

And if Sora can't do it, Riku can. Knowing him, he'll probably pass with flying colors. Just saying.

... a lot of passion in that there post.

Yeah perhaps they'll try to obtain the ability to extract hearts or something to that effect...that's the only reason I see them getting any type of advantage on being master.

Other then adding the ability to transform their keyblades into WMD`s I don`t see anything else. Except for locking, and unlocking hearts.

I think not all reaponsibilities that Sora and Riku know, like in BBS, after Aqua had sucessful in having a title of Keyblade Master, Eraqus will asking her to stay back for further briefing, i think maybe like more detail responsibility?

Sora being called Keyblade Master was a mistranslation. In the Japanese versions he is called Keyblade Hero.
And in the last two games, Sora and Riku have always been driven by personal means to save the world, not to protect the world order. So, I don't think they really know what the responsibilities of even just having the Keyblade are.

Yea I think a deeper understanding of the Keyblade and lessons on how to use it to it's full potential, like TVA can. Also SR need to understand their responsibilities and privileges as wielders, and later on masters and the additional powers that Masters have access to. Unlocking hearts, taking on apprentices etc. Also someones gonna have to unlock CO.
