On a recent discussion with the KH-Infoblock I noticed that there seem to be a lot of different opinions on what the Dark Margin is and where Aqua meets Ansem during Blank Points.
Their argumentation goes as follows: In the Director's Secret Report XIII (which is part of the Another Report book of the limited KHIIFM edition, translation by TheWertle) it was revelead that the Dark Margin (official translation since 358/2 Days) is actually the tip of a world which is therefore not strictly part of the Realm of Darkness but acts as a boundary between those two realms, the part where Riku and Sora were stranded is already part of the Realm Between.
With the dialogue between Aqua and Ansem in Blank Points going as follows:
They concluded that the dark ocean separates the places where Aqua and Ansem (being trapped in the Realm of Darkness) from the place where Sora and Riku (and probably Xemnas and Roxas too) ended up.
They further speculate that "the dark margin exists as a place where twilight and darkness cross paths, its a connecting point between the two realms kind of like a giant doorway. So think of it like any door. A door looks the same on both sides but the two sides are still different. The dark margin is a doorway between the realm of inbetween and darkness, the beach on the dark side and the beach on the twilight side are just two different sides of the same door."
I have a different opinion on this matter, my main reason is that these allegedly two different places don't just look similiar, they look exactly the same.
The Kingdom Hearts series incorporates numerous repeating themes which are transported through the background story, the character development, the soundtrack and last but not least the visuals. The Dark Margin appears in four different games, its appearance reached an iconic status as this point, therefore I argue all these characters actually meet at the same place (during different times).
The realms and how to travel from one to another is actually a very fuzzy topic and the structure of universe of Kingdom Hearts is not laid out in detail. In the same report Nomura describes the Realm of Light as a plane where the different worlds are situated on top, the Realm of Darkness is situated on the other (reverse) side, while the Realm Between stretches between those two acting kind of like a staircase.
In my opinion the Dark Margin is such a staircase. The Realm of Darkness ends somewhere before the beach, the beach is already the tip of another world (in the Realm of Between), therefore crossing the ocean would lead to the Realm of Light.
What do you think?

Blank Points said:Aqua: Who are you?
Ansem the Wise: Why, hello. It's not often I get visitors.
Aqua: Please, call me Aqua. Why are you sitting here all alone in the Realm of Darkness? How did you end up here?
Ansem the Wise: Well, I can tell you this is my second time on these shores. But unfortunately, much like the first, I do not remember who I am or whence I came. Everything was washed away in whatever currents carried me here.
Aqua: That's too bad. I know I've been here a long time, wandering through the endless hours, unable to escape.
