I already knew I was probably going to dislike some of the redesign, because that has been the case for every one of these live-actions. The way they embellished the tail is just how they would do it for a Broadway musical. It's kinda hokey. Like, let's add more ruffles (a la to Flora from Sleeping Beauty) and call it fins. But I'm at peace with it, because that's just how it's going to be, and I will always prefer the animated classics.
Looks better than I expected. I thought they would throw glitter, pearls, etc. all over her, maybe give her a see-through piece of fabric. Thank God that didn't happen.
Sorry, but Emma Watson as Belle singing with autotune was blood-curdling.
I didn't care that she couldn't sing since I was never massively fond of Paige O'Hara anyway like with Jodi Benson. Not saying O'Hara is bad or anything, I just don't associate Belle with a great song the way I do Ariel, Pocahontas, Mulan, etc. The only song she has to herself in the film is a short reprise.
I mean, even in the original they all look nothing alike.
I’m pretty sure the sisters all have the same design in the original (referring to dimensions and so on), only the hair is different and of course the tail / bra colors. Now the TV series and
Ariel's Beginning makes them look more individual than the original film (such as Adella being chubby in the series ) on top of changing who the eldest was (Attina rather than Aquata).
I'm curious to see how they will pull off "Under The Sea" because I seriously doubt it will be as fun/colourful as the animated one or even the version in KH2 (if "Prince Ali" from the live action version is anything to go by).
"Be Our Guest" was the weakest scene in the B&tB film for me, so... I don't expect very much (especially since I liked the guy playing Lumiere, not so much Daveed Diggs, sorry). I personally liked "Prince Ali" in the live-action
Aladdin--it was "One Jump Ahead" that was a letdown.
I just hope that they can make the epic scenes as epic as they are in the animated film.
Aladdin was a total failure in the Cave of Wonders/Friend Like Me, Prince Ali, "Banished to the Ends of the Earth", Snake Jafar (non-existent), and Genie Jafar scenes - all iconic and memorable scenes from the animated film that were butchered.
They need to REALLY bring it when Ursula gets the trident and becomes huge. I swear, if they cut that out of the film or make some different "artistic choice", I will be done with this film. I also want to see some horror aspects, like when Ariel signs the contract and the vortex is all around her then she can't breathe. I feel like they will tone it down in the live action version because it'll (of course) be more realistic than seeing the animated Ariel drowning.
Personally, I liked
Aladdin other than "One Jump Ahead" and Genie Jafar. So far, we don't know that Ursula will be a giant here, who knows. We do know F&J aren't in this at all--I personally liked Iago being turned into a giant enemy and thought they might do the same with them here, but that's out of the cards, I guess. The only thing I hope they
do change is that Ariel defeats Ursula here rather than Eric. I remember thinking recently they could keep the ending mostly the same, only perhaps Ursula throws the trident down at her and Ariel survives, the trident shrinks, and then Ariel uses it to shoot Ursula (who's giant at the time) in the face.
