As some of you may already know, The Lightning Thief is a movie based off the book by Rick Riordan. It hit theaters yesterday, and I was wondering what you all thought of it. In my opinion, it was 'okayish', straying far away from the book's original story. The Lotus Casino was about the closest that they stayed to the book's counterpart. Other than that, all of the events were twisted in many ways.
Whether you hate the new movie or not, please discuss it here.

Here are my impressions of the film. Percy Jackson is about the title character Percy, who finds out he is a demigod, a half-god and half-mortal child. His father, Poseidon, is accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt, hence the name, “The Lightning Thief”. Percy and his friends go on an adventure across the country to retrieve it before a war between the gods arises.
The story uses a clever mixture of ancient and modern events, places, and people with Greek mythology. One problem that struck me as annoying was the plot. It kept to the book’s plot mostly, but changed and added many things. One thing was the main villain. In the book, Ares, the god of war, was the main villain, and he was working the half-dead Kronos. In the movie, Luke was the main villain. Although he is a villain in the book, they don’t even mention Ares or Kronos. He was also portrayed as a pretty corny villain in my opinion. They also added a new plot point about using magic pearls to get out of the Underworld. And, they cut Ares daughter Clarisse but that’s probably due to the fact her father was not in the film either.
The characters were memorable, but, as I said, would have been better if they had included all of them.
The acting of the characters was phenomenal and actually laugh-out-loud funny, especially of the satyr Grover. Though, some of the acting of the gods, such as Hades, was very cliché, but it wasn’t bad to see Rosario Dawson as Persephone, in a sexy dress…
The movies visuals just look beautiful. Simple as that.
The music was very well thought out. The original music helped the story progress, and famous songs such as “Highway to Hell” and “Poker Face” didn’t feel out of place and helped the mood.
Overall, this movie is simply amazing. It is great accompany to the book, and even if you have read the book, there will still be surprises that you didn’t expect. If enjoyed the Sorcerer’s Stone, and the Chamber of Secrets, you’ll enjoy this movie. So, let’s break it down:
