I feel like the Guardians were overwhelmed, but it's an aspect that isn't properly narrated, like the rest of the original property in KH3.

I think it's just not great editing. Xehanorts have always had this breakneck speed they pull out to one shot people and everyone just stands around and takes it. Riku had it when he became AnsemSoD as well and used it to kibosh Roxas. I believe the idea is more less that Terranort is supposed to just be moving too fast that they don't have enough time to do anything but a last minute block at best.
