So my last couple of days have been spent grieving the impending end of Tumblr on account of the announced NSFW ban. Given that was my hub for all of my, er, special interests, it's been a bit of a process trying to figure out where all of these Dandelions are flying off to next.

Anyone else mourning, or have any words for this fallen titan?

My only purpose for ever visiting Tumblr was for those nice NSFW gifs. I don't have much of a reason to use it now, and frankly I think all this extra focus on censorship these days is gonna kill off a lot of sites. You can moderate the internet without taking away people's right to see content that's actually legal.

Somewhere, surely procrastinating
Always hated the way the site was formatted anyways. At least it'll give me an excuse to go to other platforms for that now. Instagram will probably become the new hub for some of these people.

Farewell, website that I tried to get into several times but failed because bless me I've never understod where... ANYTHING... was.
Seriously, putting me on a Tumblr page was the same as placing me in the middle of a labyrinth after blinfolding me and spinning me around for 45 minutes.

It sucks for the people who used it and for those who worked on it that did not have a part in the awful decisions the site took, but Tumblr really did this to itself. Many times the Internet said "hey bro, don't do that" and this is what happens when you ignore advice.
What amuses me is how many other platforms, from Newgrounds to friggin Pornhub, immediately welcomed any content creator and reminded that on their turf all was fine and ready for usage.
We're starting to move into an era where even NSFW gets its fair representation and even big platforms can't just be "evil" without repercussion.

Now I'm just waiting for the inevitable fall of Youtube.

Yeah, I definitely only use the website for porn gifs. Hopefully another website comes around to fill that, uh, void.

Wow... Tumblr apparently has a completely different purpose for me than the rest of you. I had no idea it was like that. o_O I mean I knew there was NSFW stuff there, but... Wow.

Meanwhile, I went to tumblr for memes and art. The changes are making some of my favorite artists move elsewhere which sucks. As sad as I am to see it go, it’s also entertaining to watch all hell break loose within its community.

Yeah was thinking the same lol. Tumblr was always good for the fanart.

Nowhere in particular.
I never used Tumblr for my adult content needs. Was it a nice place to find such things? Sure, but there are other places. I mainly use it for aesthetics and the like. And trust me, Tumblr isn't going to die simply because it won't be a hub for porno-related things. But I do understand how people might think that.

Alas, IG cracks down even harder on the NSFW stuff, but Twitter is definitely looking appealing for some of the artists, at least.

What amuses me is how many other platforms, from Newgrounds to friggin Pornhub, immediately welcomed any content creator and reminded that on their turf all was fine and ready for usage.

Sort of, at least. NG is definitely good for the art communities, but Pornhub is sketchy as hell and has a nasty reputation of profiting off of stolen material, so a lot of folks are iffy about that. Plus, in the end, no matter what platform we move to, Tumblr was more than just "a place for porn .gifs". Like yes, the porn is there, but it was also a place where you could be more than just horny. Thoughtful discussions between kink communities standing shoulder-to-shoulder, sharing in the space and learning from each other, maybe also occasionally sharing cute things. A weird place where we could express all of ourselves, from the kinky to the clean.

Tumblr had been a sort of home base for me in staying connected to the hypnokink community, and it was an excellent place for it on acct. of some of the bits I had mentioned above. And I'm sure the site will still chug along for a bit - That's what Verizon wanted out of this move, at least, but it can't be a home for those communities I love anymore. Even if the site lasts, it can never be home again, not after they've made a dirty diaspora out of us like this, and that feels like a sort of death to me.

EDIT: Found this really good article on Medium that sums up my feelings pretty well: Porn on Tumblr - a eulogy / love letter

Makes me pine for the days of StumbleUpon.

I never managed to make tumblr a home of any sort, it was too chaotic and loud and I just don't really gel with broad, anything-goes social networking sites. I prefer interest specific bases: if I want kink talk I'll join a forum for that, anime likewise, etc. etc. Oddly enough, though, I had never thought of tumblr as a NSFW hub per se, my understanding of it was more that the adult content was incidental to the queer and more generally outsider cultures that tethered the core sense of a representational community the site symbolized for the majority of its dedicated userbase. I feel a lot of empathy for the people who lost that.

I wouldn't mind exploring a social networking site that was explicitly NSFW and adult-oriented, though. Pornstagram sounds like a fun experiment.

Yeah, I'm mostly there for the fanart and the community lol. Of course I've seen NSFW stuff on there, but that isn't what I'm there for and Tumblr was never the main place I went to for that kind of stuff.

I guess the main thing with me is that I also never really used Tumblr not even for porn or porn derivatives. I had... other sources.
I was thinking about it today, and I realized what I really am going to miss is that iconic feeling of seeing Tumblr posts on OTHER platforms. Y'know, like when you scroll either facebook or twitter and you see a meme or a funny discussion with the iconic "reblogged from" and such.

Only... that's actually not going away. Tumblr is still there for the time being, is just alienating a whole lot of people (which will probably lead to its definitive shutdown). That goes to show you how marginal my experience with it was. Artists I follow and support being hurt by it was the biggest blow dealt to me.

Everything I know about the community is a lot of "he said she said" and second-hand stories, so I can't really pass a judgement there.

I heard a lot of Tumblr people are moving onto Newgrounds accounts. Let the rule 34 keep flowing.

I hadn't been using/looking at tumblr for some time (I much prefer forums/places with a central community area. It took me so long to figure out "something to do" with tumblr; I largely settled for fiddling with html/css). So when I saw a friend talking about posts being flagged and caught wind of this development, I didn't think too much beyond "Guess I better make sure I have everything backed up from my private 'ahem-ahem stash' blog". ...Which I still need to do.

Newgrounds. The website that helped Gen X and Gen Y kids express their creativity is now helping Gen Z.

It was a real shame because I followed a lot of amazing NSFW artists and I can follow them on twitter but they were always way less active. Maybe now they'll put more into it because of the loss of Tumblr but the structure also doesn't seem as simple as Tumblr was for them to post.
