at the end of KH1 you have the big door that is the door to kingdom hearts. but on the other side its full of heartless and riku is trapped inside with mickey. so does that door lead to kingdom hearts. or does it lead to the realm of darkness?

it leads 2 the dark Realm and if u look at Jiminy's Journal in CoM it said that Riku stayed in the other side in the dark realm

It could be the door to the Realm of Darkness, but it could be to KH too since a bunch of light escaped and a bunch of darkness was left inside.

When the King and Sora locked the door, he and Riku could've been transported to the Realm of Darkness. That's my pretty good guess.

it was the Realm of Darkness because if you played Kingdom Hearts 2 Sora finds out that the King escaped from the Realm of Darkness and assumed that if Mickey left than so did Riku, and how do you put words in spoilers?

Yes it's the Realm of Darkness; because was at the center of the transporter there was some concentrated darkness

That always confused me too, because Sora and Ansem referred to it as Kingdom Hearts, and then Sora says, "Kingdom Hearts is light!" ...and then it's full of heartless. Go figure.

Behind the door to Kingdom Heart is the Realm of Darkness. However Ansem was saying that Kingdom Hearts itself was Darkness as a result, yet it wasn't. What you saw with the Heartless was the Realm of Darkness which Ansem was trying to get to.

Remember: The greater the Darkness, the brighter Light shines through it.

The Realm beyond The Door of Kingdom Hearts is The Dark Realm, hence the appearance of Heartless. Besides, it's been documented that King Mickey found The Inverse Kingdom Key in The Dark Realm, which explains why we saw him at the end. After Sora and King Mickey sealed The Door to Darkness, my guess is that Riku and King Mickey destroyed all the heartless. Didn't you see Mickey take out 2 Darksides in 1 second? My question is, what else went on in The Dark Realm? We never did get the full story.

Actually, what confused me is that King Mickey's Keyblade had the power to take out Darksides in one shot in that one scene, but when you play KH2 and he comes to save you, it hits like the normal Kingdom Key...

It was the DTD because the Princesses of Heart open it, but that was in Hollow Bastion so maybe it doesnt lead to DTD, but Ansem says Kingdom Hearts fill me with the power of darkness so i guess inside that Kingdom Hearts was the DTD

Actually, the big door is in fact the world's form of Kingdom Hearts. Yeah, Kingdom Hearts wasnt something on the other side of the door, KH is the door. KH itself was only light for that moment because it had sided with Sora to stop "Ansem" from disrupting the worlds. In that dark abyss KH is the small spec of light that shines through the darknes. On the other side of the door is the realm of darkness.
