The five Sages stood upon a rocky crag overlooking the city of Valorus, with Damien at Rhalla. The carnival had come to town, which made the port city and its sister city Rhalla the most visited place in history today. Anyone of any kind of importance who was not attending the carnival here or in Rhalla was either ill or dead. Elrick could hear the fireworks from down below. All of them were of a bluish hue, and he knew in Rhalla they would be red. As if it made much difference. Blue or red, no color can conceal the crimson of many layers of fresh blood. Naturally the place was crawling with Acolytes, as would Rhalla.

Still gazing at the city by the sea, Elrick said to his companions, "Time is limited. Verisophiles may be aware of our arrival. The Acolytes are aware that he is a target, and will be protecting him closely. You four will extract him swiftly. Kill all opposition."

Elrick turned, twitching his index and little fingers. A rift opened in the rock, although it was not like any hole ever seen, being blacker than any black there was. He would not be joining the infiltration of Valorus. Neither would Damien. Both of them had business elsewhere.

"This rift will take you directly to the main square of Valorus, where Verisophiles is sure to be. Take him alive."

Elrick opened yet another rift. It was better like this: an attack unprecedented, unpredictable. It would make the people realize who they were dealing with. He waited for the rest before he would go on his way.

Flynn actually couldn't beleive his eyes.
The people of Valorus were cheering... but he could also sense fear in their assorted cries for excitement.
He thought this was supposed to be the coldest city in the realm to him. He traversed pretty far for this mission, He was hired by a man named Quincirus,to kill one of the very nobles that worked alongside the man he once served. He thinks by killing the men who headed the corruption of this once happy land, he could find redemption for the lives he took as an Acolyte. Flynn was just sitting by the concession tents... Drinking a nice cup of lemonade. He paid the man and walked into the crowd...

A hazy cloud cover had rendered the night sky dark and overcast, yet Valorus, a golden melting pot of people from all corners of the world, knew full well how to compensate; since the clouds were thick, the denizens of the port city had created stars of their own. The fireworks display streaked and exploded across the sky, showering the port city in vibrant azure from above, while hundreds of different lighted displays, fire-tossers, and street magicians--not to mention the thousands upon thousands of sparklers--illuminated the city from below.

These and more brilliant lights dazzled carnival-goers from all sides, when they weren't completely engrossed in the bright-costumed revelry itself. The enticing smells from street vendors' push-carts were only rivaled by the foot-stomping tunes of the carnival musicians. The masked actors roused laughs galore from atop their tiny stages, and the dancers aroused quite a bit else from inside their tents. For the former Cyan Sage Mephisto, known to all as Verisophiles, these frivolous distractions provided exactly the level of controlled chaos he required to remain just beneath notice.

In any other setting, his eccentric garb and embroidered harlequin's mask would guarantee stares from every pair of eyes nearby, yet the presence of hundreds of carnival employees, all masked, had diverted the crowd's attention elsewhere. Amidst them, and while obscured by the noxious smoke of the fireworks, the only notice he drew was from the Delta Battalion Acolytes patrolling the grounds, and that only consisted of a few knowing glances between them.

As of the current moment, Verisophiles was merely whittling time away by anonymously mingling with the throng of carnival-goers, yet his movements were edged with concern; some event was looming ahead, as the night was still young enough. He sensed some of that concern in the people milling about him, especially the Acolytes, who gripped their weapons even more tightly than usual.

It wasn't merely a "hunch" or "feeling," however; he never believed something unless he was sure of it, and there was no denying the vague anxiety buried beneath the revelry: Their internal electrical impulses were firing at a slightly more rapid pace, indicating some sort of tension or anxiousness. Granted, much of that disturbance could have been attributed to the thrilling sights of the carnival, yet Verisophiles was too well-acquainted with the workings of human beings to attribute it to mere coincidence.

Contrary to popular belief, there is very little in this world that can be called pure coincidence, he thought to himself as he casually strolled past another cluster of pitched tents. Yes, there is no mistaking it; something stirs the commoners on this night...The Sages. Elrick....What shadow have you chosen to cloak yourself in tonight...?

Every now and again, he would casually lend his gaze down the main road, towards the port side of town, which he never strayed far from for very long. A carriage full of Acolytes disguised as partygoers had been arranged to transport him to the docks, where an express voyage to Rhalla awaited him. The Cyan Sages had very recently discovered the existence of the Acolytes' newest and most dangerous informant, deeming the capital the (assumed) safest position for him until other arrangements could be made.

With that being universally understood, Verisophiles had also arranged for another ship to prepare for him, one initially headed in a comparable direction, but eventually tapering off to reach another port, from which he would travel by caravan to Klax. A cleverly disguised mercenary would be taking his place on the ship to Rhalla, and by the time the Delta Battalion would discover the doppleganger, it would have ben too late for them to alter their course.

He had not, however, been able to send for another carriage without the Acolytes' knowledge, and he whispered a curse at their stupidity in not selecting their driver by hand; whoever he was, he was nowhere to be seen, though the appointed time for his departure was fast approaching.

"Things are going to get crazy tonight for sure,"thought Kanza to himself. The tension of the higher ups was unmistakeable, he knew that they were all preparing for an encounter with the Cyan Sages. Even with all the tension in the atmosphere, Kanza couldn't help but admire the beauty of the night. The stars were all hidden by thick clouds but the fireworks show made up for it, fireflies were fluttering in the air, the smell of delicacies being sold was lovely and laughter was all around. He admired the children who smiled with their parents, who shared this simple pleasure with them....a pleasure he never had.
Realising that he was making himself depressed he shook his head as if to throw away his past. He looked up at the sky one last time knowing that there was work to be done soon.

The word...

An articulation of emotion; pretty as most words in the ancient languages and just as helpful in common conversation, but the use of it ultimately paling in comparison to the very feeling it was assigned to verbally embody. Old words of whose skeletal systems of syllables are taught whilst their ancient origins wither with the passing of generations. Endless experiences reduced to ghosts and chained to language set in stone. Yes, perhaps language had its uses in recording history, written art, and when amongst a group; however when the single entity is taken from its flock and given no being outside its mind, the creature would find itself, for once, rather speechless.

Such was the case with Aeora, known in old housewives' tales told to frighten children into obedience as Lux Aeterna. Granted she was not truly alone atop this great cliff overhang looking down on the amusingly festive city; she was physically and even mentally present with her fellow Cyan Sages. However there always remained a part of her that never ventured beyond the intricate depths of her own mind. Inside there was no need to convey to others every shallow emotion, thought or action that simpler beings always found a need for.

At moments such as this is was hardly a difficult task for Aeora to be consumed by her thoughts, though through dedicated and extensive (often days on end) of meditation, Aeora had tamed how her mind reacted to both internal and external sources. Naturally there were some instinctive exceptions, but as a side effect of this control Aeora had developed quite a talent of mental multitasking. She heard and accepted Elrick's command without a word; her eyes, almost permanently fixed in a state of what appeared to be the gaze of a zen master, likewise did not stray from the city awash in naïve celebration.

The word...

Countless words had come to mind as Aeora contemplated the foolishness of creating a language that did not properly portray true emotion. No, they could find a way to say "happiness" or "fear" or "love"; simple, small things the lot of them. But the ever-present they could do nothing but scratch the surface of deeper feelings, ones that beings as great as Aeora and those who stood alongside her, in fact an emotion such as this was what Aeora could not properly articulate, even if she only cared to articulate it to herself. The great thing she unearthed within herself at times such as this; staring into a pitiful albeit brightly lit pit stained with the filth of worms eating their hearts out and drowning their forgotten purpose in dimwitted revelry. Overdramatic, perhaps. Exaggeration? Hardly. In Aeora's perception their very souls may as well have been falling off in putrid chunks. Not for being merry of course; in fact Aeora preferred scenes of delusional chaos as opposed to the unbearable normalcy. Aeora simply found that lesser creatures brought a bitter taste to her mouth, as well as darkly poetic internal musings.

But no further distractions. Aeora banished her distaste from the dominant part of her mind. With graceful and swift movements she readjusted the mask atop her shoulder, pulled her hood and tattered scarf about her face to conceal as much of it as possible, and stepped into the created darkness to hunt.

She concluded that the ethereal word would simply have to remain undiscovered. Elusive vocabulary would pale in comparison to this night of great and distressed joy.

The square was full of quite a few people but at the time all that was on Tomie's mind was the amount of horrible destruction she could bring. It seemed that El wanted to show off and warp everybody to the square yet the scale clad woman declined. Either way she arrived just as fast and when that happened people died. "Oh joy, look at all the fun I've ruined!!!" She gazed left and a single particle of energy began to expand...

From that action streams of blood began to splash across the ground as Tomie bent light and focused it with deep magical force to sear the flesh off a group of dark skinned children nearby. Her gaze didn't change but her whip like blade extended to ravage those closest to her.

"I missed??" Her blade passed by a guy with lemonade, but the shine from the cup caused an explosion anyway. Friends and foes never mattered to her.

Crow was disappointedly, trudging though another country town he came here to see a man said to be able to rip a soul from a body but he was just another big talking fake "damn i'm never gonna get rid of you" thought crow as he kicked the stone along the road "hahahahaha still trying to be normal why don't you give in to me their all looking at you whispering.. glaring frightened of you the halfbreed" taunted Scalibur cruelly on instinct and maybe a little paranoia he glanced around and saw that they were all looking at his ears and fluffy red tail the adults looked on in disgust the children though it looked pretty cool hmph innocent children wait to you grow up life ain't so cool then "shut up" responded Crow to scalibur as he sinked to the back of his mind.

As soon as crow was out of the little town he fully changed into a huge 3 meter tall ginger wolf and started dashing across the country side his target Valorus "been a long time since I've been home maybe i'll find some clues there to where she is? ".

All Kanza heard was screaming and chaos. The Cyan Sages were here. The negative emotions that these people emanated could have caused him to faint. His black eyes fell on a woman who was using a whip-like attack to kill small children. The bloodcurdling screams of families were almost too much to bear. He slowly pulled out his sword the flameseeker and infused it with his fiery ability.
These people were clearly powerful but none of that mattered to Kanza at the moment. "Bastard!" he screamed as he charged towards the woman not knowing if he would be victorious.

Elrick and the two other Sages had already left; Hornir remained poised upon the rocky crag overlooking the port, still as the stone under his feet. He would not be entering the festive city tonight. Habitually, all of the Sages operated individually, even while sharing a unified goal—Hornir would leave the mindless slaughter to Tomie, and the surgical extraction to Aeora, both of whom suited their goals quite well (the overlap of their elemental powers, while not their personalities, seemed a curious anomaly within the Sages). His business lay nearly five miles offshore, where an oceanic fault line built up tension several kilometers below sea level.

A month of telluric investigations had revealed that the port city of Valorus, as well as the mountain range surrounding it, were settled upon a bedrock many miles deep; the effort and time required to bring up any magma reserves buried underneath were too great to justify in so short a period of time. Under the sea, however, where the ground dipped and thinned, it was another story. The oceanic crust, only a few miles thick in places, still bore the scars of the violent, tectonic upheaval that had brought this plate of land into the larger continent of Mhassus, smashing them together with such force as to raise the sharp mountains Hornir now stood upon. One of those underwater scars, a fault line that had never settled properly, was still warm. Hornir had spent the last fifteen days unceasingly warming and reawakening the cooled magma in that crack, and, as it expanded, the plates became increasingly unstable under the pressure. The actual explosion wouldn’t be that significant –the magma flowing up would almost immediately resolidify under the immense pressure and cold temperatures of the ocean depths-, but the plate slippage occurring in its aftermath would. Even a fraction of its potential movement would displace a monstrous body of water, only five miles from Valorus’ coast.

Even for one with Hornir’s abilities, the manipulation of such mass bodies of magma under the earth’s surface was not an exact science. He could not say exactly when the fault line would break or the resulting tidal wave hit the city; he was no longer actively influencing the matter, but had left the building pressure and heat to follow their natural course. He was certain, however, that it would occur within the hour, and there would be almost no warning but the unnatural pull of the tide from the city. The destruction along the coastal line would be severe; the death toll in the overcrowded city would be incalculable. If his fellow Sages had not accomplished their task by the appointed time… well, that was not Hornir’s concern.

Solemn impassivity clouded Elrick’s cold eyes, as they regarded the chaos Tomie had already brought about with an evident lack of concern, Aeora following behind. It mattered not—the people must learn that this world was designed for misery and sorrow, and such festivities were merely a form of cowardly escapism from the reality, a reality that he would soon bring crashing upon them, for them to accept or die in their blind denial.

He addressed Raylin. “Join your comrades and find Verisophiles.” Hornir, it appeared, would be elsewhere, attempting to drown the city in water rather than tears. His repetition of their task only reflected the necessity of its success. Elrick had increasing suspicions of the Acolyte’s new informant Verisophiles, whose abundance of information suggested perhaps an aptitude for intuition. And Verisophiles’s pattern of thought was strikingly similar to that of the late Sage, Mephisto, whose death Elrick had noted to have been odd, like something out of a play.

Tomie continued to wreak havoc. Call her insane, but such madness was only a quality of outstanding genius, and Tomie would always get the job done in the end. They were told to look for a man wearing part of a harlequin’s mask, and who may or may not be attempting to leave the city. That was why he stationed Damien at Rhalla; it was the most likely place Verisophiles would slink off to.

He twitched his middle and ring fingers. From the shadows in the night emerged a large flock of spectral ravens, composed of the very darkness they came from. The ravens would circle the city for Verisophiles, and when he was found, converge upon him and let the other Sages know.

Elrick then conjured another portal, which he entered. His next destination was Klax…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It would have started about now, thought Damien as he sat atop a building in the Rich District of Rhalla. He was told to look out for Verisophiles if he showed up here, yet there was no sign of a harlequin’s mask. Nor did he think there ever would be. The Sages would not let him escape. And given this, Damien knew he was in for a boring night. A rash impulse seized him, one to reveal himself to the many Acolytes patrolling below and take all of them on. Strange; he was normally such a collective person. Still, he almost wished he’d be accidentally discovered.

The woman Kanza saw was now the only Sage in the square. When she saw him she showed a small smile perhaps smirk would be the better term. Without even the slightest hesitation she struck kim with her whip,Kanza managed to block the attack but just barely. " How dare you attack these people!" Kanza screamed. The woman looked at him with joy in her eyes, the joy to do something so vile pissed off Kanza. He shot fire out of his sword but the woman simply dodged them. At the same time she continued whipping random citizens, laughing all the time.
"You vile bitch,"muttered Kanza.

Flynn was simply blending in... with his current appearance he looked like anyone else there. He even traded a few tidbits of conversations with other party-goers... He even found his target. His target was at his home on the other side of the square. Flynn clutched into the earth with magic... He extracted a pebble from the ground beneath him and levitated it in his hand... He pointed the stone at his target. He was resting atop his balcony. Flynn built magical pressure within the stone, and when he loosed it the pebble launched across the square up toward the Target's balcony, then hit him clean through his eyeball and out the other side of his head. The man lurched over the edge of the balcony and fell over, crashing into the cobblestone street face down. Flynn pulled away into one alley as the people started freaking out.

Tomie stopped and turned to look at the man whom had called her vile.

"What. Did. You. Just call me!?!?!" She flipped around and spun her legs back to the ground and stopped in front of the man, looking him up and down, now ignoring the screams and other sounds that the children and other people were making, she no longer cared about them, just the man whom openly disrespected her and what she was doing. "You dare insult me and call me something such as vile and then even go further to say I'm something as lowly as a dog??" Her eyes glowed violently, but she just stood there and stared at the man, he didn't even look like a man, but her instincts told her like any foe, even if she'd chosen them, to be quite wary of what was before her.

"Go. Get out of here before I do something that you don't like. If we cross paths again, you won't like the outcome and I'll leave it at that."

At once there was no doubt that the young man had been blinded and when he could see again, Tomie was gone, leaving only a shimmer of light where she had stood before...

Kanza was ready to face the woman to put all he had learnt in the battle. However, the warning gave him a fearsome warning, simply vanishing in a glimmering light. He put out the fierce crimson flame on his sword and re-sheathed it.

"Hmm..where did that woman go?" he wondered aloud. She seemed offended by what he said but surely a Cyan Sage would know what kind of creature she was.

Kanza was startled that the woman gave him a warning instead of striking him down but these thoughts were broken when he realised what destruction she left in her wake. The crying children pierced a hole in his hearts but he couldn't help them....the other acolytes probably need his help. Kanza ran off towards the docks to see what the other acolytes were up to. He wanted to look behind, to help but the sight was too overwhelming.

Kato whipped the horse, making him move faster. He sighed and whipped the horse again, trying to make him hurry up. Kato was like 10 minutes late. It was a very important mission assigned by the First Acolyte himself. Kato knew it was a huge responsibility, but it wasn't his fault he was late. The horse had taken forever to get ready. He was very unstable, and kinda nasty, At least the first horse was. Kato decided to get another horse, and so here he is, with a horse moving slower than a snail. "Damnit. I hate this. It's not a bad speed, but it's not fast. I wonder..."

Kato's mind trailed off, not sure if it would be okay for him to test out how strong his powers really were. He thought about it thoroughly. He could either take the horse and carraige and be really late, or he could just teleport the whole cart there. Maybe he could make it. It'd take a bit of doing, but Kato believed he could do it. He had been to the spot he was meeting the Leader at. Kato decided and closed his eyes. He reached deep and ripped open a hole big enough to take the whole carraige to the hill where his pick up was waiting.

"Sorry boss, i didn't mean to be late. I, uh, couldn't catch the horse, and this one is old, so shall we get going."(Yes this is you ordeith.)

Like ripples in a pond, the disturbance in the farther-off crowd's electrical impulses arrived faint and weak by the time Verisophiles sensed them, yet it was still enough to tell him that it was time to depart, carriage or no. The brilliant flash of light far ahead, followed by several horrified screams, only reinforced that thought. It could only be Tomie... Keeping his pace slow and controlled so as not to draw attention, he began to set forth down the carnival hill and towards the main road, to the docks.

Before he could even take more than a few steps, however, he suddenly found himself looking at the port side of town, through a portal from which a harried-looking Acolyte emerged--along with a decrepit old horse hitched to a carriage.

At once, the crow shrunk back from the shimmering rift in space, but upon realizing that it was the work of an Acolyte, relaxed and went about their carnival business with only a passing interest towards the Acolyte and his semi-dead horse. Verisophiles merely scowled--not at the Acolyte himself, who was merely improvising as best he could, but at the idiocy of his superiors for forcing him to do so. For worldwide keepers of the peace, the Delta Battalion was painfully lacking in foresight.

"Sorry boss, I didn't mean to be late. I, uh, couldn't catch the horse, and this one is old, so shall we get going?"

Verisophiles scrutinized the young man and his carriage for a while, saying nothing. He held onto a faint hope that the Acolyte would manage to see what was so blatantly obvious to him, but quickly let go of it after allowing a moment or two to pass.

Finally, he stepped over to the carriage and addressed the young man in the driver's seat. "Acolyte...If you are able to transport objects between locations so easily, then why did you bother bringing the carriage along with you? It seems to me that you've already done away with any inconspicuousness we could have had, so driving down to the docks in a carriage pulled by such an ancient animal would only be a waste of time when I can simply step through a portal." To demonstrate, he casually walked through the carriage-sized portal and into the port side of town.

"Nonetheless," he added as an afterthought, "you improvised well, considering your...limited resources. You've probably managed to salvage the time that was wasted in the first place." With a curt nod to him, he continued onto the docks, saying no more to him. Though he had managed to save several minutes, time was of the utmost essence. His doppleganger should have already assumed his position on the Acolytes' escape ship, leaving his own vessel, carefully disguised as one of the fireworks ships, ready to depart as soon as the current wave of ships rolled in from the bay to re-stock their firework supplies--no more than five minutes away.

Keeping carefully out of the Acolytes' sight, he boarded the ship, immediately went below decks to his cabin, and bolted the door, without any lamps lit inside. To all appearances, it was an uninhabited cabin, allowing Mephisto to slightly relax his guard, though he continued to wear the golden mask of Verisophiles.

In Klax, he thought, I should be secure enough to work uninterrupted for at least the next month or so--enough to construct a prototype, if my equipment travels unharmed. If everything follows through, Elrick and his sheep will be at my beck and call before the year is over. At this, Mephisto neither grinned nor laughed, yet inwardly, his ego swelled with pride and ambition; in the end, truth--his truth--would conquer them all.

Kanza quickly arrived at the docks. He breathed a long sigh of relief as he realised that the acolytes and sages hadn't fought yet. The boat that was supposed to sneak away Verisophiles was still docked and just about to leave. The docks seemed rather peaceful compared to the screams in the town, which could still be vaguely heard.

Kanza clenched his fist tightly."I couldn't save...any of those people," he muttered to himself. The feeling of guilt overcame his body, shaking him to his core.
"What was all that training for?" he asked himself disgustedly. However, there was no time to think, the Sages would be here soon. Kanza reluctantly stepped onto the boat full of his comrades hoping to put his guilt away.

A silent sentinel, Aeora stood atop the flat roofs of the city. Their trims were heavily decorated with festive lighting in front of her, and every once in a while a bright flash of fireworks illuminated the night sky behind her, simoltaneously illuminating Aeora's sillouhette. Aeora automatically absorbed the energy created from both of these light sources and as a result her form briefly glowed, along with her stunning eyes, the light seemingly radiating from the inside of her to the out. It mattered not to Aeora if the occasional worried carnival guest saw her - for whenever the next burst of light graced the dark sky, her ominous figure would have disappeared into the shadows once again.

In any case if someone was looking at a Cyan Sage at the moment, it certainly wouldn't be the one observing from the rooftops. Aeora watched as Tomie rained destruction and chaos all around the square. A useful distraction indeed. Oh but what was this? What appeared to be a simple child with spiky brown hair was actually standing up to the Sage. And now, Aeora noticed with mild surprise, Tomie simply left the boy with nothing but a threat fueled by hot air. The boy now sheathed what Aeora noticed was a rather curious sword laced with flame - no average boy after all. An Acolyte then? It was possible; they all had a certain reeking odor about them, and this child was no different.

It was curiousity then, and perhaps a dash of intuitive thinking, that drove Aeora to follow the child as he left the square, she following at a reasonable distance with no audible sound, certainly none that could be heard over the raging festivities and incessant crying of small children. She moved with no small amount of grace, her every motion appeared to have been planned thouroughly in the milli-seconds before its execution. With Aeora, nothing was accidental.

Before boredom became the name of the game the boy and Aeora arrived at a predictable location - the docks. Aeora stopped and lowered herself so as to not be seen by the boat of Acolytes on the water. After a brief pause in which Aeora questioned if she had been noticed and promptly threw the notion aside, the child walked onwards toward the group of Acolytes. She briefly noted her assumption had been correct.

It seemed as if her target had an entire ship of escorts. Unsurprising considering he had become a valuable asset to their organization.

Aeora had just concluded that it was most probable her target was on board the Acolyte's ship and had prepared herself to sneak aboard when something caught her eye. It was a ways
down the shipyard, but Aeora's useful positioning on the rooftops allowed her to see a shimmering golden mask. Its wearer promptly boarded a seemingly deserted ship, but the brief glance was enough to bring a rare, albeit small smile to Aeora's lips.

Clever... Thought Aeora before the smile disappeared and she herself became mere particles of light, their brightness diluted as to appear invisible. She traveled through the air quickly heading for the dim ship. Her particles would find whatever opening they could into the ship, and since they remained under her centralized brain she would reform herself in the middeck of the ship, and then the real game would begin.
