you know how in final mixs deep dive ending riku fought with a blind fold??? well i have a theroy of that
you know how in chain of memoys riku was told that as long as riku fought with the power darkness he could risk turning back into ansems host? well maybe thats why he fought with a blindfold!! to be sure that he couldent know how hard the fight was going to be that way he wouldent risk turning back into ansem's host because then he couldent help sora wake up trhis also explains what roxas did when he won there fight he cut off the blind fold and since he had just quit the orginization he was hopeing that ansem in return for freeing him would help him overthrow the orginization! (even though thats preaty farfeched for the heartless ansem. any way thats the theroy of mine ummm...

oh well plese tell me what you think

Actually, in Kingdom Hearts II, they said that he wore the blindfold, since he was lying to everyone, Sora, Mickey, etc... And he could lie, but, his eyes couldn't lie, so he wore a blindfold to conceal his eyes. :D

Err... we know why he wore the blindfold.
Because Xehanort's darkness was beginning to taint his heart, and his eyes had turned yellow, so he wore the blindfold to not only fool others of this fact, but himself as well.

That makes more sense when you say it that way. In KH2, Mickey said "His eyes couldn't lie" which made no sense.
What was Riku lying about, anyway?!

Lying about turning over to the darkness. He was tainted and became evil, and than said he'll never use the power again, and while he was by himself, he activated that power, and lied to his friends so that they would not know, and be afraid he was tainted by evil once again, so, he wore a blind fold, since, as R-K said, after being tainted, his eyes turned yellow, and that would give away the truth of him accepting the darkness.

When Riku lifts the blindfold to look at Xion, his eyes are most definitely blue. And if you remember, he was able to defeat XH and force the darkness back.

However, he does say that he was trying to fool himself. He was trying to fool himself about the fact that he was about to use the darkness again.

one of his eyes was blue, yes. But what of the other one? who's to say at that point he didnt have one gold and one blue? We can't say for sure, but his eyes turning gold was why he wore the blindfold - as was told by Nomura.

Are you absolutely sure that this was what Nomura said? Granted, I don't follow all of the interviews he gives, so you might be correct, and I'm just being dumb, but never have I heard that Riku wore the blindfold because his eyes were turning yellow.

As far as I can remember from when I last played the game and got that far, Mickey said that his eyes couldn't lie.

What I got from this was that Riku started wearing the blindfold and the organization cloak so that he could run around undetected through the Corridors of Darkness, so that no one would see his eyes and know that he wasn't truly evil, or that he wasn't supposed to be there. The only reason why he accepted the darkness and began to turn into Ansem was that he figured it was the only way to keep Sora safe and healthy while sleeping.

At least, that's what I always thought it meant.

And that's why it seemed like a big deal when he finally took it off, showing his blue eyes?
So he could still use his dark powers (as seen in him fighting after that cutscene) but could not enter the realm of darkness.
Could someone explain this?

I think this shoots down the "if he doesn't have the blindfold on, then he turns into Xehanort's Heartless" idea, which I saw in the Xion/ Riku thread. I really don't get how some people thought that, considering that KH: 358 Days takes place before the fight with Roxas (which practically leads straight into the events of KH2 (Data Twilight Town)), in which Riku was forced to change into form, in order to defeat Roxas. Anyways, thanks for mentioning that.. the both of you.. (R-K and DDD)

They think that because in the TGS trailer, Mickey sees Rikunort, and Rikunort puts on the blindfold, and turns back into blindfold Riku.

Which goes back to the eyes and the lying--though it begs the question of why Riku thought he had to do that when Mickey'd already figured out his secret.

I'm still just trying to figure out how he sees in that thing. In the trailer he's definitely got that eye closed before he pulls up the blindfold, and then he drops it back and walks over to the Keyblade natural as can be. And yet he didn't recognize/have a problem with Xion until he saw her.

I have to say this--guys, Riku's eyes? Ain't blue. Were never blue. Will never BE blue. They're aquamarine. They have been since KH1.

maybe they go Aquamarine -> Blue -> Yellow. A sort of weird progression?

But he wasn't just lying to Mickey, i mean, obviously Mickey knew.

Nomura said it outright. He wore the blindfold to fool himself. the blind himself to the heinous darkness overcoming his soul, clearly something he was NOT happy about.

In order to fool himself, and others, he had to wear the blindfold. Hiding the darkness in plain sight. I believe the old saying goes, "The Darkest Place is Just Under the Candle Stick".

He did not really turn into Ansem he just thought that to defeat the darkness he had to become Darkness itsself. In other words become what he feared in order to defeat Roxas.
