Considering there are at least a few (read: a lot of) TeamFourStar fans here, I thought y'all would like to see these dorks play Kingdom Hearts.

Re: TFS Plays Kingdom Hearts

I cracked up at the "Minnie being barren" bit. And also at them constantly losing to Riku XD

Nah, I put it in General Discussion (I really didn't care where it went, I just wanted it out), it didn't get any replies. No biggie, I'm just glad people are reacting to this. Also, I'm kind of upset that other people may have just copied me when I sent the KH 1.5 and 2.5 package.

Kind of wish they played the game as one of their DBZA characters. Vegeta as Sora would have been hilarious

"we should play the whole series in chronological order, wait for unchained key to finish updating and then play birth by sleep."

Re: TFS Plays Kingdom Hearts

Since they talked in a lot of videos about Kingdom Hearts I always waited for this. I thought they would start when 2.8 releases to play everything until KH3 comes out, but the way they are doing it now is fine, too. Looking forward to Agrabah. Oh boy.

I imagine they won't play all of the games. Like Re:CoM seems like one they'd easily skip and just do KH2 and then BBS (maybe) and then hopefully try to get that SE love and play 2.8.

CoM is true, but they'll definitly play BBS. It's a big game in the series and it would be to hilarious to just skip it.

Re: TFS Plays Kingdom Hearts

They mentioned that one of the games doesn't hold up during the mailshow. Based on their comment on Xion I wonder if it's 358/2 days

Re: TFS Plays Kingdom Hearts

Mmm, I'd say they were talking about KH: CoM (or KH1; it's up to interpretation what Grant meant when he said "One does not hold up well"). KH 358/2 Days and KH: Coded are just videos, so they COULD easily skip them and just fill in the blanks...or awkwardly make fun of it by feigning ignorance.

EDIT: I just tweeted him, so hopefully he responds and we get a straight up answer.

Re: TFS Plays Kingdom Hearts

Nah they were definitely talking about 1. They kept saying over and over again how "This game" hasn't aged well and things of the sort.
Loved the stream, the reveal had me in tears.

Kh1 still holds up well compared to some of the other games in the series. But to each their own I guess.

Wonder if Episode 2 will come out this week?

In terms of how modern game design has affected how we like our video games to play (i.e., responsive cameras, variety of combat options, etc etc), I'd say KH1 is pretty dated. It is a fantastic game, but I can see where people come from when they say it doesn't hold up. I don't think that, but I mean it only takes playing KH2 to notice how big of a difference five years made on the action genre.

Should be every Thursday but we'll see!

This is very much the truth. KH1's claustrophobic camera and sticky jump landings really make it feel like it's super dated. On the other side, however, I don't think there are many games from 2002 or prior with such great enemy mechanics and general fluidity in combat. Sora's movements in combat have very little start and end lag, and the finishers of both the air and ground combos have this big fat juicy hit to them that sends smaller enemies flying.

Sora's air combo especially feels great. The swings propel you forward just a bit, but you don't just fly up into the air and stay glued to the enemy you're hitting. Sora jumps up, but he's on his way down. The jump has a mostly definitive arc to it regardless of your air combos. Later games really don't understand this concept.

I'd say in terms of basic tech, and movement it's only second to KH2 in the series.
