A new villain PsychoTech is causing havoc in Jump City, he's a red/blue Red-X ninja type guy with seemingly unstoppable powers, Enter the 1st appearance of the Titans! (The crowd cheers!)
At 1st he's too much for them & defeats the Titans with each attempt - Starfire joins Robin on his motorcycle for a final attack!
Robin subdues the enemy after intense fighting & this is how the film starts out with an all out non-stop action sequence.
PsychoTech does heavy damage to Titans Tower with exploding shurikens, until he is captured by Robin & forced to talk through a Japanese translator machine. He was not supposed to be captured and is fearful of punishment from his master. Robin finds out he was sent to destroy them by the mysterious shadow figure Brushogun!
Well it's off to Japan for the Titans. a really funny opening credits sequence begins where each Titans packs for the trip - Cyborg takes extra arms & legs and a 2nd head pops out much to Cy's surprise! Raven thinks about it & packs only a toothbrush, Starfire vacuums up her spare clothes with a tamaranian creature which changes shape & she wears as a purse, Robin packs some costumes but has to wake up Silkie sleeping on a pile of his laundry & BB just grabs everything and packs in 2 seconds - the main TITLE of the film:
Cyborg tries to get all the luggage into the T-Car but has to strap everything on the outside. They stop & go to the bathroom on an island in the Pacific & a "chibi" Aqualad pops up to wave "Hi: In Japan they are just like tourists finding the culture weird & cannot communicate so Starfire uses her proven Tamaranian method & kisses a random boy to instantly start speaking in Japanese (Robin is burning mad with jealousy) The boy almost faints with love but it's in total untranslated Japanese (I hope the DVD offers subtitles)
A panic ensues which Starfire informs them the monster is attacking! Gorgo (Godzilla with winged ears) is seen wrecking Tokyo & the Titans are fighting him when the Japanese police show up & contain the monster. They are armored Super-Cops (think AD Police) and they are led by the Commander (who's Japanese name I forget) but is dressed exactly like Zenagata - the police foe of Lupin the Third anime series. He shows the Titans around & Robin asks about Brushogun, which the Commander dismisses as just an urban myth, he doesn't really exist. So he tells the Titans not to interfere in police matters & to enjoy Japan like Tourists. Of course this does not sit well with Robin who gets easily obsessed...
Wackiness takes place when the Titans pursue Japanese fun - Cyborg goes to an all you can eat Sushi bar with angry Iron Chef's, Raven reads books trying to unravel Brushogun, beastboy wants to go to the Anime Studio but it's closed, so he reads a manga on the steps & is called an OTAKU by a cute girl! He persues her to the Karoke club which he sings the TT theme song with nonsense English lyrics to an audience which has at least 2 Ganguro girls!
Starfire & Robin do the arcades and Starfire proves she is the real master of games by doing a Virtual Reality helmet, Whack-a-Mole, Dance-Dance-Revolution & Guitar hero all at the same time! Afterwords the 2 have a tender talk on a rooftop about how on Tamaran, kissing is a means of communication but on Earth she realizes it means "much more". They declare how they feel for each other, the crowd GOES NUTS when Robin pops breath mints & Star checks her armpits since you know what's about to happen.... Then Robin changes gears & declares that - WE are Heroes & can't be more than that - then restates his mission to find Brushogun! Star tries again & is deeply crushed by Robin's 2nd lack of affection towards her, she flys away with tears floating in the air. *At this point the audience is calling Robin "gay" and other unflattering names & booing at Robin*
Here the story gets a bit complicated and Robin once again battles PsychoTech, the ninja he fought before & smashes hin in the ground covered with red paint. The witnesses are shocked by this apparent "murder' and Robin seemingly covered in blood - he is arrested by the Commander and sent to jail. The Titans finding Robin has been framed search for Brushogun (who remains a shadow figure watching the Titans every move on TV screens) He sends creatures after each one - and the girl who BB was flirting with becomes a savage catgirl, Star is attacked by a flying robot looking like Astroboy, Raven in attacked by a masked octopus creature looking like No-Face from Spirited Away & Cy is attacked by a yellow battle robot going "Konichiwa" like in Kim Possible. While enroute to jail the paper flies into Robins paddywagon with the words "Brushogun" on it & it explodes freeing him.
Now a fugitive Robin assumes the identity of a Shinjuku mugger after knocking him out. He changes clothes & unmasks but wears dark sunglasses so you never get to see his eyes. While running once again from the law, Robin reunites with the Titans (who you thought were captured by monsters - but escape somehow) He tells them that he has proof that Brushogun is "REAL". While the other 3 Titans investigate - alone, Star & Robin once again have a private moment and share tender words with each other. They talk, glance into each others eyes, hold each others hands & move forward for a kiss and just then.... BeastBoy busts in on them ruining their chances (doh!) They track Brushogun back to the old Anime Studio which was closed down & find a strange creature type man stuck in the printing press with tubes coming out of him. he explains that "he" is the real Brushogun, but not the super criminal as thought.
The legend of Brushogun is told: Long ago a manga artist fell in love with the woman he drew, so he used Japanese black magic to make her come alive from the pages, but demonic forces fused the magic into the artist forming the creature Brushogun who can make the colors of artist's ink come alive to form creatures, robots, ninjas, catgirls etc..into reality. But Robin asks him - If you are trapped here - who is using your powers for all this Crime?, then you see the true shadowy voice of Brushogun (think all black Slade) he tell the Titans how he trapped him & uses the dark powers to make crime & mayhem. Robin figures out the only person who stands to gain from a city full of crime & violence it it's police Commander! With the real villain exposed the Titans attack.
TITANS GO! they have to fight multitudes of the monsters they previously fought but find out they are made of ink & not real - so super violence begins with the best ever fight sequence in Titans history. The Commander seeing his forces decimated by the Titans uses all of Brushogun's powers to become a huge dripping ink blob monster (like in Akira) He grabs Raven & Starfire wrapping them up in tentacles and while Robin tries to save what's left of Brushogun, who's embedded in the heart of the thing, Robin gets sucked into the being like quicksand. He does rip Brushogun out of the monster and thus destroys his powers. Brushogun, now in human form as the artist Thanks Robin & The Titans for saving him & then he fades away into nothingness - the Commander is left there defeated in a pool of black ink.
Starfire's hand is sticking out of a tentacle pile of goo she's trapped under and goes limp - Robin races to save her and picks her up, she opens her eyes and sees Robin asking Are you OK? She replies I AM NOW! as her eyes go teary. Now kneeling & holding each other, Robin says: Perhaps now we can be something besides just heroes...we can be something MORE! They lean in and it happens.. ROBIN & STARFIRE KISS!!! not just a peck like in Go!, but a deep, long, romantic one. The theater goes insane with fan service dreams realized!
Cyborg goes "Well it's ABOUT TIME" while the other Titans look on dumbstruck. ( it took 5 TV seasons & a movie to achieve! )
With the Titans triumphant, they go off to really enjoy Japan and pursue their desires, Cyborg gets all the Chefs in Japan to make him a mountain of food, Beastboy gets glomped by tons of girls, Raven is just.... well Raven and gives BB a slap upside the head for being lecherous & stupid !
The Titans bask in their glorious victory plus Robin & Starfire are shown now holding hands as a couple!!
The Titans are national heroes in Japan as a huge festival is thrown in their honor & are given medals - Beastboy ends the event with one last joke as they all make grimace faces...
As the credits roll over black screen - The ending song is the same karaoke one Beastboy sung, but each Titan voice actor takes a turn singing - The Raven one is absolutely hilarious!!! Since she does it sounding all grouchy & deadpan. I couldn't hear it so well because of the THUNDEROUS applause at the end of the film from the fans!"
