It's totally true (but then again, it always has been). Alvin and Rowen are kinda cool though, but that might just be because their voice actors put some actual effort into it.
I'd be lying if I said I'm thrilled that the visuals look like a remastered PS2 game.
it's not that they're not likeable, just that i feel they need to think of something new. there's always the do-gooder (main char), the one that doesn't understand humans (sophie, presea, milla), the cool guy/ladies man (kratos, zelos, malik, alvin) i could go on, but you get the picture. although, i'll give them that rowen is kind of unique (but sort of similar to regal.)
like i said, i've only played symphonia, xillia, and graces so it may be different in the other games.
Spoiler ShowWe have Yuri as our protag: the vigilante who doesn't care about the law or getting his hands dirty if it means helping people or doing what he feels is right, who might not openly show it, but is kind and worries about others.
Then we have Estelle, the indecisive, typical kind and caring weak-healer type who's been locked away in the castle her whole life, treated as nothing more than a tool to the empire; ends up having a much more important role in the game later on.
Rita, the tsundere who's extremely smart and loves research, but due to growing up without parents isn't so great with people-- which they hint that she might be afraid of being hurt by others and instead dedicates herself to research; further proved with her constant "Blastia will never betray me" lines--, who later becomes very close to Estelle and is a little more open with her feelings towards everyone.
Karol, the scaredy-cat who's been kicked out of numerous guilds but tries to make himself sound cooler than he is, after a series of events ends up learning some life lessons and learns to overcome his fears.
Judith, the witty, impulsive, mysterious one with a rough past who isn't afraid of a little sex appeal (did i really have to type that).
And Raven, the lazy, overly friendly 'old man' who frequently flirts with the female party members, complains a lot, and ends up having one of the most interesting pasts of any Tales character imo.
Flynn would be the typical 'do-gooder', but though they even treat Vesperia as if the story belongs to both of them (they stated that Flynn is as much of a main character as Yuri), we rarely see him in the Xbox ver. And the thing that I like about Flynn is that he has his own personal reasons for being the way he is, and his relationship with Yuri is interesting.
It sounds like you watched the movie, but I don't really need to say much about Repede, the dog with a scar and pipe.
Sam Riegel improved so much since Vesperia, I really like him as Jude. As for Milla, I think her lisp suits her. At first I thought it was really weird and odd but now I'm used to it I think it works for her.Alvin and Rowen's voice acting are great (and i'm among the fans who think Sam Riegel did a great job with Jude). I personally don't have any issues with Milla because I don't pay a lot of attention to it, but I know her lisp irks a lot of people.
I didn't know she had a dark past, that would have been really interesting to see. Now I do want the PS3 version, I wasn't happy with what they did with Flynn in the Xbox version. He's supposed to be a main part of the game and yet he only pops up every one in a while and then leaves. At least he was with you in the PS3 ending, it annoyed me how he wasn't even there in the Xbox version.Patty Fleur is a character exclusive to the PS3 version, so I can't say much about her, but I know that she apparently has a pretty sad past, says "Nanoja!" a lot, and that everyone who hated her at first loved her by the end of the game.
The reason i'm upset about the PS3 version is that it basically includes enough new content to count as a second Vesperia, Flynn actually STAYS IN YOUR PARTY once you get to a certain point, the ending is a little different, plus the DLC, etc.
wow the golden mage knight can go fuck himself
Tales of Xillia is pretty freaking amazing guys, I just finished part one, but damn playing on hard is, well, hard. Jiao took me like 11 retries until I finally beat him lmao
