I love the CGI in the games, but I don't think it would work at all if it were to be throughout the whole game. But then I wonder how they would go about improving KH's graphics without taking away that style the game has, while also making it look suitable for a console like the PS3.

I'm don't know about tech and gaming design etc. but i suppose they'd use higher polygons, characters, textures and stuff like that. Maybe some lightning effects? maybe some cel-shading?

In any case KH isn't the most advanced in graphics. It uses a unique flavor in the graphic department which is really welcome.

You know they might have in store an engine especially for KH or they might modify the luminous engine or the crystal tool?

It's purely a CG animation. Do you know why even the basic of CG models created by a Uni student can be better than a average in-game model of a video game? Because of mesh smooth and turbo smooth. It's a technique to smooth the entire model, making it look more 'realistic'. But it's highly demanding and it doesn't 'exist' in video games development. Modelling in Games is polygon modelling and the more polygon it has, the better.

Meshsmooth and Turbosmooth bypasses that. So you can create a basic model, smooth it and it's half the work done.

Now that is information. I never knew about these stuff. Thanks Chrono. =)

At least i wasn't that far off, huh? and now the question i think you expected if it gets the half work done why it doesn't exist in the video games development?

Because it is highly demanding. With CG animation, it's just smooth and render. It's a movie clip. With Video Games, you have to apply coding to it, to make it load into the world, render it and make it move/jump/etc. There's so much work put into it and it takes up a lot of computing power. Meshsmooth and Turbosmooth can make even my computer struggle (and I have a six-core processor at 2.8GHZ with 8GB of Ram and a GTX550Ti) from time to time and I can run bonking Crysis.

Meshsmooth and Turbosmooth splits some polygons into so many polygons. Our consoles and PCs can keep up with so many polygons before it can become so much.

So it doesn't exist because the technique is too advanced and worth too much trouble to be implemented.

I see...very interesting all that.*starts to wonder why he didn't go to computer gaming design* xD

Who? The topic creator?

Well if people are wondering why we aren't the 'equivalent' of a PS1 FMV (like Final Fantasy IX CG), it's because of that.

So... What will Kingdom Hearts III look like? It'll likely have the same style because consistency. Just imagine it with much superior lighting, shadows, textures and such. Maybe more detailed areas? Fucking people populating the city?

I meant me. :)

Yeah, that's how i imagined it. Exactly how you put it.

Since you know about graphics and all. When KH goes into this

What is called exactly? and it looks like that because of the style it uses?

It is a pre-rendered CG cutscene. Uses the standard techniques you find in a CG movie. You also know that it doesn't take one PC to render it. It takes either a super computer or multiple PCs to render it.

KHI. Here is an idea. Why don't you allow registration by non-free email address (address from your IP provider or your email address), that will stop your spammers.

Re: CGI

I really hope they fix Kairi... she's so damn disturbing on Destiny Islands. She's fine on the stairs, but it's probably because there isn't a close up on her face.

I kind of think she looks nice. Original.

Well until we see another shot of her in her new form, then I'll express my final opinion.

The problem is, that she looks fine in the rest of the trailer. It's probably due to a lack of close-ups; her eyes are so damn dead, in the close up.

You notice the lack of spark that the other cut-scenes have? All they have to do is add that and possibly edit her mouth a bit, then she'd look great.

Not gonna lie, the CGI looks very weak when you look at Kairi's face. That is all.

Preach.

I'm hoping it isn't finished and that was just to give us a taste. I'd be really surprised if the 3DS couldn't even match the PSP in terms of the HQ CGI. o_O

I think the problem lies within the lighting. That's why she looks weird; in fact, when I looked at her the first time, my first thought was how weird her nose looked. It reminded me of MJ's nose, hahaha. Then there's whole lack of small white light in her eyes aka reflection

Also, does anyone think the Kairi's head in 3D is wider and smaller in length?

It is wider! Holy crap. o_o
They really have to edit this one, because the lighting is so weird.

It's also because there's considerably less detail in her face. No exaggeration there. But yeah, the lighting is an issue as well.
