The soul, however, is the real life's heart, apparently. Without the soul, you'd be dead, according to the Ansem Reports. No soul, no life. But it's perfectly fine to lose your heart. Without a heart your body is an empty shell. Alive, but not able to do anything until it turns into a Nobody, stays a lifeless empty vessel (Kairi) or... disappears.

He transcended beyond being just a Heartless. But just because he looked human doesn't mean he was.

Sora wasn't, technically, human between the events after Hollow Bastion and when Roxas joined with him. His body and soul belonged to Roxas, and he was merely a heart. He merely took human form due to Kairi's intervention. But the heart can live without the soul. The body can't.

Not necessarily. We don't know what caused Ansem, SoD, to have a human like appearance. Perhaps it's because he casted his body off willingly, thereby being able to retain his human like characteristics due to remembering how to be human, or perhaps it's something else.

Sora's anti-form is basically when Sora succumbs to the darkness. Even with Kairi having purified his heart in Hollow Bastion, his heart still wasn't made of pure light, like hers. It still had darkness in it. He was just able to reverse the effects of becoming a Heartless, i.e. forgetting everything that made you human.
