The Chosen
In a reality far separate from that of our own lies a distant galaxy known as Quintus IV. For centuries, Quintus IV was a tranquil and peaceful utopian galaxy protected by the siblings Gaia and Arias, two mysterious and mystical entities whose origins are incomprehensible to that of the feeble human mind. One day, Arias became corrupted by the powers of darkness and conspired against his sister. He felt that, as Gaia represented femininity, only men had the capability of ruling an entire galaxy. With his charismatic persona, Arias gathered a powerful army of dark soldiers and creatures. With this army, he began a war against Gaia and her loyal forces that last several thousand years.
Arias's plot to destroy his sister failed, and he and his army were sent to the Oblivion Rift, a fate worse than death. However, the powers of Gaia were diminished in the war against her brother, and she supposedly ceased to exist. Humans are unsure of who will protect the galaxy now, but as long as they have hope, humanity will continue to strive. Now, it has been 10,000 years since Gaia and Arias were last seen, and our story takes us to the year 2187. Peace continues to be maintained in the galaxy, but peace is something that does not last forever...
A terrorist group known as Chimera has attacked several planets and colonies of the United Alliance, Quintus IV's governing body. Their intentions are unknown, and no one outside of the organization knows anything about them. The only thing standing in their way...is you. Yes, you. You are one of the Chosen, eight heroes selected by Gaia herself to protect the galaxy in her absence. But you don't know it yet. For now, you have been selected for special assignment by the military on the Haven, the Alliance's newest flagship after the destruction of the Odyssey. You are fulfilling your dream of exploring the final frontier. However, this is just one small step in the direction of your destiny. And be weary of where you tread. Some things do not want to found, and some secrets are better left hidden.
So, take heed. The galaxy needs heroes. The galaxy needs you.

The Chosen
The Chosen
According to legend, after defeating her brother in a war that lasted several decades, Gaia chose (or will choose) eight humans to take her place as the protectors of the galaxy. The eight are described as: a soldier of fortune, a magician of miracles, a warrior of destiny, an adventurer of hope, a guardian of peace, an engineer of fate, a vanguard of justice, and an alchemist of dreams.
Spoiler ShowSoldier of Fortune: You have had many brushes with death. Where others seem to fail, you do not. Where others seem to meet their end, you get to go home with an occasional injury. You know your way around the battlefield, and you have the skills necessary to survive in the galaxy. You are, indeed, the soldier of fortune. (Taken by myself)
Magician of Miracles: You are extremely gifted in the magical arts. While the vast majority of humans have left magic behind in favor of science and technology, the classical elements have been something of interest to you, and you have dedicated your life to mastering them. In addition, you have also studied the ancient art of healing. Without you, your comrades would certainly die a slow and painful death. You are the magician of miracles. (Taken by CD-Man2021)
Warrior of Destiny: Next to the soldier of fortune, no one compares to you in terms of combat. Guns, swords, your own fists, you name it. If it can be fired or swung, you can use it. You have struggled with finding yourself, taking up several "odd jobs" hoping to find your true calling. But, no matter how much these jobs seem to not define you, you know that somewhere, somehow, you will prove your worth in the galaxy. They don't call you the warrior of destiny for nothing. (Taken by King Naruto)
Adventurer of Hope: Quick, agile, brave and arrogant. You have explored every corner of your home world, amassed a very respectable amount of wealth and treasures from your travels, and have seen places some people will only visit in their dreams. But, somehow...that is not enough for you. You wish to explore every inch of outer space, a task that many would deem impossible. But you won't let the impossible stop you. After all, you are the adventurer of hope.
Guardian of Peace: You've experienced tragedy before. As a teenager, you witnessed the murder of your younger sister, and it tore you apart, as you could not protect her like you promised. You have learned from this tragedy and have grown stronger, learning to protect and guard your loved ones, and aid those in need. The shield is your best friend. You are a peaceful individual, using violence only when the situation absolutely calls for it. You are the Guardian of Peace. (Taken by Eva)
Engineer of Fate: Your brainpower? Unmatched. Your skills with technology? Unparalleled. Rather than rely on swords, guns, or magic, you rely on your brain and what you can do with it. While you are quite capable of handling yourself with a gun, you can also build gadgets that will aid you in battle and hack computer systems in the way of your objective. While you tend to annoy people with your smarts, your comrades know that your inventions are one of the biggest reasons for their continued survival. You are the Engineer of Fate.
Vanguard of Justice: You have always been a firm believer in the concept of the ends justifying the means. The punishment must fit the crime. Instead of letting the broken justice system deal with criminals, you decide it is better to take the law into your own hands. While some may disagree with your harsh sense of justice, and use words like "vigilante" and "outlaw" to describe you, others realize that you have what it takes to get the job done and protect the innocent. As the Vanguard of Justice, many can rest easy at night knowing that you are watching over them. (Taken by Klom89)
Alchemist of Dreams: Some call you a mad scientist. Others call you a crazy old hermit. You tend to think of yourself as a...connoisseur. No other person in the galaxy is more skilled in the science of alchemy than you. Chemistry and medicine come naturally to you, and you possibly rival the Engineer of Fate with your brainpower. People may throw a wild eye at you, but there are others out there who appreciate your dedication and vision. You are the Alchemist of Dreams.

Spoiler ShowThe United Alliance: The governing body of the Quintus IV citizens. An interplanetary federal republic, the United Alliance's executive branch is led by President Arnold Raynes. Its legislative branch is led by the Council. The main headquarters of the Alliance is stationed on the planet of Gladius. Currently, there are 30 planets under the Alliance's banner, and more than 90 recognized colonies.
Chimera: Claiming to be accelerating humanity's foothold in the galaxy, Chimera is a terrorist organization with unknown intentions. It is unknown as to how or when they were formed, or who even leads them. It is also unknown where their (seemingly) unlimited resources come from.

Spoiler ShowObviously, standard role playing rules apply. No god-modding, power playing, or killing without permission. Romance of all sorts is more than allowed. However, keep it within forum guidelines. If you are confused with anything that is going on in the plot, or are confused on how to detail your Chosen character, PLEASE let me know either in this thread or in a private message. Weapons range from a variety of swords/blades/knifes, staffs, assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, shotguns, launchers, and grenades. All guns require thermal ammo clips in order to be fired. Credits are the standard galactic currency, and are used to purchase weapons, armor, upgrades, and a variety of other items. Have fun!
Also, one final note, every Chosen character is assigned to the squad led by my character, Gordon Ross.

Spoiler ShowName: Sergeant Gordon Ross
Alias: N/A
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Appearance: Like his father, Gordon has a towering appearance, standing at six feet, eight inches tall. He has moderately tan-brown skin and has hazel-brown eyes. He sports black-buzz cut hair. Gordon has a bit of a muscular frame, weighing at about a healthy 230lbs. He wears the standard light armor of the Alliance Marine Corps, allowing him to move swiftly when fighting with his sword. The armor has three holsters, two hanging from both sides of his waist, and one on his lower back. The side holsters hold his sword and pistol, and the back holster carries his assault rifle.
Title: Soldier of Fortune
Weapon(s): Gordon wields a double-edged, hexagonal cross-section longsword that he likes to call "Old Reliable." The steel blade is four feet in length. In addition to Old Reliable, Gordon is in possession of a military grade pistol, which fires low-caliber thermal ammo clips, and a customized assault rifle that fires high-caliber thermal clips.
Skills: Gordon is an expert swordsman, being trained in the ways of the sword since he was 15 years old. However, he always believes he has room for improvement. He is skilled with guns as well, since it is required in the military, though he has always preferred to use his sword. Gordon is also known to survive situations where survival seems very unlikely. No matter how much the odds are against him, he finds a way to survive another day. This is something he is never proud to admit, since he can't say the same thing for those around him.
Personality: On the outside, Gordon portrays himself as a hardened solider without a problem in the galaxy. However, he is far from it. On the inside, Gordon is an emotionally-scarred soldier, always haunted by his parents' deaths and the deaths of his squad mates, often making it hard for him to stay focused. Aside from this, however, Gordon has a strong sense of justice, an affinity for the law, and has a heart of gold. He is willing to sacrifice himself for his comrades, innocent civilians, and, depending on the circumstances, his enemies.
Biography: Gordon Ross was born on the planet of Gladius into a well-know family; his father was a Fleet Admiral in the Alliance Navy and his mother was a successful prosecution lawyer. Because of his parents' busy careers, they barely had time to be with their child as much as they wanted to. Gordon spent the majority of his childhood being raised by the family maid, Jasmine. Jasmine would tell Gordon stories of the galaxy's past, of the siblings Gaia and Arias, and their seemingly endless war. The stories fascinated him, and he has a strong belief in the two beings.
As Gordon turned 17, tragedy struck. One day, his parents decided to take a vacation away from Gladius to get closer to their growing son. While on the Admiral's personal starship, it was attacked by pirates. Before the pirates could enter the ship, Gordon's parents were able get him to the escape pod. They promised him that they would be right behind him. However, he knew they were lying. Gordon was in the one and only escape pod. Before the pod was jettisoned, Gordon could hear the pirates enter the escape pod room. He could not make out what they were saying, though it seemed that his father was refusing the pirate leader's demands. Frustrated, the pirate leader shot the Ross' dead.
This left an emotional scar on Gordon that will probably never go away. After making his way back to his home world, Gordon didn't know what to do with his life. After 7 years of doing nothing, Gordon decided to join the United Alliance Marine Corps and follow in his father's footsteps of being a military man. Once he completed training, Gordon was assigned to the squad of Sergeant Derrick Antilles. Three years later, the squad was given a mission to investigate the colony Centrus in response to rumored Chimera activity. The squad got more than they bargained for when they were ambushed by Chimera soldiers. One by one, the squad members fell. Gordon, however, pressed on. It was like something other than himself refused to let him die.
Using his wits and the training he received, Gordon was able to kill the remaining Chimera soldiers and escape death once again, albeit a few injuries. However, witnessing the deaths of his squadmates, added with the deaths of his parents, threw him into turmoil, and he nearly went AWOL. After realizing that his father would not want him to quit so easily, Gordon returned to Gladius, where he received a hero's welcome. Because he proved his worth as a soldier due to his survival, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Recently, Gordon has been assigned to the Haven, the newest war cruiser in the Alliance Navy. He has also been given leadership of his own squad. However, he does not realize that his assignment to the Haven will result in him becoming one of the galaxy's newest protectors.
