"holy crap i missed south park the other night." So I then rush to my laptop and head to south park studios.com. And suddenly my world is turned upside down, the episode was unlike any other south park before it. This mid-season finale could just possibly be the beginning of the end.
Spoiler ShowThe episode opened with Stan and the gang out celebrating his 10th birthday. Stan receives a cd of tween beat music. Which surprisingly sounds a lot like the dubstep craze sweeping through a lot of teenagers at this moment. When Sharon takes away the music because she feels its crappy, it upsets Randy more than anyone, and launches his next campaign to capture his lost youth (although he too thinks it sounds like crap.). Stan on the other hand becomes pessimistic and jaded to the world around him. As the episode continues, Stan and Kyle have a falling out due to the fact that stan is now a major buzzkill, and kyle doesn't want to be his friend anymore. As if all of these events with Stan weren't depressing enough, the major highlight of the episode was the argument between Randy and Sharon. They realized that they have been unhappy for quite sometime, even going so far to say that every week is basically another asinine stunt that gets reset and forgotten. The couple then divorces and goes there separate ways, leaving stan in a state of almost permanent cynicism, Cartman and Kyle as best friends, and the future of the beloved show in jeopardy.
As someone who has grown up with the charismatic yet highly potty mouthed group of children since the age of 8, last nights ending leaves me saddened at the fact that this may be the end of an era. Stone and Parker have managed to satire many of the childish, stupid, or otherwise hilarious aspects of our everyday lives for 15 years now, and the thought of loosing my favorite band of foul mouthed munchkins saddens me.
That being said, I would like everyones opinion on the episode, and what you think about the state of the series.
