Awakening
As you rub away the dust on the inside of the glass, you can't help but notice that your hand looks different. You can't put your finger on it, but it seems more... skeletal, perhaps? Ridged. Your whole body feels cold, but you don't shiver.
"Awakening of Fifth Form Subjects is now Complete."
What was that? You try to pinpoint the voice, but the encrusted glass quickly slides away with a hiss of pressurized air, and you stumble forward into the broken, darkened room. You don't cough, even though you can feel the dust begin to build up around your neck.
You turn around, and gaze upon the elegant - though now long faded - glass machine you had been standing in a moment before. It is unremarkable, save the stiff plastic tubes and boxy computer console at its side. You can't help but wonder how long you were in there for, or why, but a series of sounds like escaping air draws your attention. You hear the sounds of metal feet on the smooth stone floor, and turn to face the entrance of this tiny, otherwise empty room.

A Brief Summary
Souls Within Steel is a science fiction/cosmic horror post-apocalyptic roleplay in which you will be playing newly woken up human minds, trapped within machine bodies. Your memories are incomplete, most notably regarding why and how you got stuck in your current situation. While you will be able to regain some of these memories, it will not be an easy task.
Now, however, you must work with other newly awoken individuals to discover the truth, recover your former lives, and find a way to fix the damage that has been inflicted on the world.

Memories
Memories
As far as you remember, you were a human being - quite ordinary, and quite familiar, in your shape and form.
As far as you remember, the world was just like ours - no magic, no intelligent computers or alien monsters.
Of course, now you've awoken in a body of metal, and 'as far as you remember' certainly has a lot of holes in it - you're pretty sure you had a family at some point, for example, but you probably don't remember all of their names, faces, or both. You're pretty sure you had hobbies of some description, but which things you 'enjoyed' and what they actually entailed are, again, in pieces.
Each of you will get a choice of receiving some information on one of the following (reserved here in the Sign-Up thread), gained via PM and not to be shared with other players out of character:
- Flowers
- Verdant
- Abyss
- Weapon
- Bound
Each of those things will come with some sort of secret goal or objective that you must reach for and will likely affect your character's backstory and future character development, though of course they will not be the 'be all and end all' of character creation or character goals by any means.

Rules
Rules
- The standard rules apply as with all roleplays (obviously).
- The deaths of player characters are... possible. Not guaranteed, and there's no plan necessitating such deaths, but be aware that everyone getting through this unscathed is unlikely. That said, character deaths will be decided on via private discussion before hand.
- Regular and somewhat frequent posting is expected.
- Violence will be... hmm. Rare, but unpleasant. Try to keep things subtle where you can.
- Sex and romance are, uh... theoretically possible? Bodies of metal would make that difficult, I imagine, but again, try to keep things subtle should things take a turn in that direction.
- As is expected of most roleplays, keep your grammar and spelling of a decent level.

Character Template
(at most fill out 8 of these, though Temperament, Capabilities, Weaknesses and Appearance (Current) are mandatory and all chosen aspects should be detailed. Once completed, send your template to me by PM)Name: (1 detail) If you remember it, your name should be one of ordinary modern day Earth origins, though any nationality is possible. Presumably, this will indicate your sex and gender but doesn't have too.
Age: (1) The age you remember being
Sex/Gender: (Available for free but not mandatory)
Temperament: (Free) The core of your personality - your reactions, your moods, some of your likes & dislikes
People: (1 for each) The people you remember as something more than a face or a sentence
Moments: (1 for each) Events in your life that stand out and shaped you or those close to you in some way
'Job': (1) The things you did to get by, including education, and your general role in society
Nationality/Ethnicity: (1) Your genetic or cultural heritage - pick from real world, modern day nations or ethnic groups. This may or may not include your place of birth/home town
Talents: (1 for each; 2 at most) Particular or above average skills you possessed and were proud of in some way
Capabilities: (Free) The enhancements your new body provides you with. While all of the bodies are somewhat resistant to environmental dangers, are physically superior to human bodies in many areas and do not seem to need food, water, air or sleep, your body will also possess a few unique abilities or strange tools and weapons built into it. Three such abilities or devices at most, though feel free to make them versatile.
Weaknesses: (Free) Your bodies are not without flaw - in the time spent prior to awakening, they appear to have become flawed in some noticeable ways. At least one less weakness than total capabilities, though if you want to do things ‘hard mode’ and give yourselves additional weaknesses, that’s allowable.
Appearance (Former): (1) How you looked when you had a body of flesh.
Appearance (Current): (Free) How you look now. You possess a humanoid body of various plastics and alloys and you’re obviously no longer ‘human’, but it will vary greatly in colouration, patterns, structure, size, and even seemingly the actual state of construction.
