Hey there! I'm Bond_of_Flame220, but for the sake of time *looks at invisible watch* call me Kinkajou. Yes, I know my penname sounds... odd, but don't get me started off topic.
This fanfic is my first Kingdom Hearts romance that ISN'T a true event, (I've made novels of 1 and 2 which are currently incomplete), and its between Sora and Kairi. Naturally. My chapters are kinda*emphasis on kinda* long, so kick back, relax, and don't kill me if its bad. Please and thank you.

Oh, yeah, the whole letter from the king thing is not mentioned at all in this fic. I was too lazy to come up with a lead on that. Haha!

Well, I'd be happy to read it, but you gotta post it first :)

NOTE: To all who love nicknames: A kinkajou is a mammal that lives in the rainforest (known as Sugar Bear)! I'm sorry, I had to do it :p

Okay, I've retyped the first chapter. I'm jamming to Savannah Pride, the Pride Lands battle music, so I'm in a good mood.

Chapter One: Clad in Black

Sora could not sleep that night. The gentle island breeze buffeted his spiky brown-blonde hair slightly. The moon reflected in his brilliant blue eyes, which he didn't bother closing, knowing that sleep wouldn't come to him.

He shifted slightly on the leaning paopu tree, trying not to lose his balance and fall into the ocean's black midnight waters. It was so... strange. Strange being back home, at the Destiny Islands, strange being around his best friend, sixteen-year-old Riku, and strange not sleeping with Donald and Goofy.

A single tear rolled down Sora's fair-skinned cheek and fell with a silent plop into the ocean. He felt a strong pang of lonliness, despite the fact that Riku and Kairi were sleeping nearby.

Court Wizard Donald and Captain Goofy of Disney Castle came from another world. So, naturally, when Sora and the gang had saved the worlds a month ago, the group had parted ways.

Sora himself, Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy, and the king of Disney Castle, King Mickey, had been the ones to vanquish the darkness to save the worlds. They were halved now, literally. Sora felt as though a jagged wound had been ripped in his side.

Sora let his gaze travel to Kairi, who was the same age as him, fifteen. She had soft dark red hair that went to her shoulders, beautiful blue eyes, and the fairest skin...

Sora felt himself grow hot and gritted his teeth. The three of them, not yet used to sleeping around others, had slept on the little islet for a month. Sora and Riku had been traveling on and off for a year, so it was slightly odd for them to sleep in the same place each night.

Sora turned over, where he was facing the beach...

... and nearly fell from the paopu tree.

Sora had good balance due to his slender frame, so he just managed to avoid a midnight swim.

The reason he nearly fell was because of the sight of the person standing on th beach. The person was his height, though he couldn't tell what gender they were because of the black coat shrouding them...

Sora took a magnificent leap from the paopu tree, landing with a loud splash in the water. Riku and Kairi awoke with a start.

"... Sora?" murmured Kairi, standing up. Sora slid through the water like a sleek otter, scrabbling onto the beach without even shaking the water from his head.

The person on the beach said nothing, did nothing.

"Who are you? What do you want?" growled Sora, drawing his Keyblade, the Oblivion. The blade of his weapon was shaped as a key, and a black crown Keychain dangled from the handle. The Oblivion was as black as midnight.

The person still made no response. The wind slightly shifted their hood, and Sora saw piercing green eyes glinting from under the hood. Axel?

The person held their arms out to the sides, and a black aura appeared behing them. Before Sora could act, the person disappeared. No, it couldn't have been Axel... he's dead.

Sora spat with frustration, his legs feeling like jelly. Riku and Kairi caught up with him. They were dry, because they took the long way around.

"What's up, Sora?" asked Kairi, still rubbing sleep from her eyes. Sora shook his head wearily, his lack of sleep finally catching up to him.

"The worst," he replied bluntly, not meeting their gazes. Riku brushed his long, silver hair from his aquamarine eyes.

"And that would be-?" he asked, looking at Sora in concern. Sora hated to tell them.

"They're back. Organization XIII," he said, dread consuming all his senses and filling his ears with a deafening roar.

He got a reaction, as he'd expected. Kairi clapped a hand to her mouth and gasped, while Riku lurched on his feet, and went pale.

Organization XIII, an evil group of thirteen Nobodies, the body and soul left behind when a person's heart is stolen. Sora and his friends had eradicated the Organization for the last year, and had lost a good bit from the Nobodies. Not the whole Organization was bad though. Like Axel, and Sora's own Nobody, Roxas...

Kairi herself had been kidnapped from the Islands by the Organization, to fire up Sora's anger to the Organization's advantage. It worked. Sora shuddered when he remembered the ice that had filled his veins when he heard what had happened. He went cold when he landed at the Nobodies' homeworld, The World That Never Was, and stayed cold, until...

Sora, Donald, and Goofy were confronting Xigbar, number II and expert sniper of the Oganization, when Sora spotted Kairi. She was on a higher level of the room, holding her own against scores of Heartless with her newly aquired Keyblade. Sora remembered that... the ice had melted, as soon as he laid eyes on her. But he froze back over while fighting Xigbar, desperate to get to Kairi. Sora had defeated Xigbar, and didn't even celebrate his death. The ice drove him forward, upwards and upwards, until he'd finally reunited with her... the ice then melted for good... and was replaced by a warm glow in his chest.

Riku had a totally different story. He had doned the black coat of an Organization member himself; to wield the power of darkness, you must take the form of darkness.

"What'll we do, Sora?" asked Kairi, horror blossoming in her beautiful ocean-colored eyes. Sora stiffened in surprise. He would've expected her to ask Riku, who was older than him by a year and more experienced with the doings of the Organization.

Somehow... somehow he wasn't sure that the person from before was an Organization member. For one, the person lacked the talkativity of an Organization member. They would take glee in leading him in so many wandering paths and dead-ends. So why hadn't this person said anything? Maybe it was Sora's hunger for adventure that had made him think of the Organization's return. Or maybe they really had come back, and this was a ruse, to make him think the person really wasn't an Organization member. Sora sneezed. The wet was making him cold.

"Nothing we can do," he answered, "Not really. I'm gonna crash. I'm freezing." Sora finally took the time to shake the water from his head, much to Riku's annoyance.

"Watch it," he muttered, moving away from Sora, who grinned cheekily.

"Afraid of getting wet?" he sniggered.

"I thought you were tired," shot back Riku. Sora opened his mouth to say something.

"Stop arguing," interfered Kairi. Sora gave her a dry look and walked for the Seaside Shack. Kairi ran up with him, grinning broadly.

"You better be glad I did that," she giggled,"He was gonna win."

"Was not."

"Was too."

"Not."

"He was going to win, Sora," chipped in Riku in a matter-of-fact tone, catching up to them.

"Shut up, Riku."

There ends the first chappie. It took me a whole hour to type, so I hope it's good. I know it's not too awful romantic yet, but be patient. The next couple of chapters go up a notch in that department. I'll try to get the next chapter up sometime soon.

Chapter 2: To Share a Paopu Fruit

"Soooora!" called Kairi, doing a u-turn back towards the Secret Place. 'Where'd he go?' she wondered. Sora had a habit of suddenly disappearing, and you wouldn't find him until sunset, where he would wait for Riku and Kairi at the little island with a grin.

But Kairi had a feeling she knew where he was.

"Waaah!" yelped Sora, shaking seawater from his face. He'd been dozing peacefully in the Secret Place, a small cave by the Seaside Shack.

Kairi had then splashed him with seawater from a plastic bottle, which caused him to awake way too suddenly for his taste.

"I always knew females were deadly," he muttered, glaring at Kairi. She laughed, lighting up the immeadiate area. Sora flushed ever so slightly.

"Well, what'dya need?" he asked.

"Nothing really..." Kairi answered. She looked up. Sora followed her gaze.

Sometime during Sora's travels, a small portion of the cave's ceiling had fallen down, a circle about half the length of Sora's armspan. Someone had cleared the rocks away, and the skylight let a beam of light cut down, in front of the cave wall where Sora and Kairi had etched in something, long ago... Kairi had drawn Sora, and Sora Kairi. Just before his travels, Sora had etched a hand extending from him to Kairi. In the hand was a paopu fruit.

The paopu fruit had a legend. It is said that if two people share the yellow, star-shaped fruit, their destinies would become intertwined. They would always be a part of each other's life, no matter what.

Kairi had later done the same thing with her drawing. That section of the cave would always be special.

"So you threw water on me and woke me up for, nothing really? Thanks a lot!" Sora complained. Kairi said nothing. She dove her hand in her pocket and pulled out something. A paopu fruit. Sora blinked at it.

Kairi saw the way Sora was looking at the fruit and blushed a deep shade of pink.

"Well, I was just wondering... if you might be... hungry," she blustered. Sora blinked again, then nodded, smiling in a way only Sora could smile.

Kairi halved the paopu fruit and gave half to Sora, who accepted it.

The paopu fruit was not only liked for its legend; but for its well-balanced taste. Sweet, sour, dry, bitter, and spicy, all together in one tender fruit.

"Thanks for that, Kairi," he said, finishing his paopu. Kairi flushed slightly and nodded.

"I wonder if we'll see that person again?" said Sora, trying to save Kairi from her embarrassment. Kairi was glad that he changed the subject.

"If the person wants to show up, they will. But there's no point in worrying about it till then," she said, surprising Sora yet again. Kairi typically liked to finish problems quickly; now she didn't even want to address it. Kairi stood, staring straight forward.

"Don't feel as though you have to solve the problem," she said.

"What?" said Sora, stricken. Did Kairi think he couldn't do the job?

"You don't have to. You need to rest for a while. Unless you haven't had enough of saving the worlds for a couple of years." Sora was stunned. She was making fun of him now. What was with her?

"Besides, there might be other things in life you miss out on if you mull over stuff like that for too long," she said cryptically,"Just think about it for a little while." She leaned down suddenly and kissed him on the forehead, then left.

Leaving Sora with more confusing thoughts and emotions than he had had before.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, I felt like starting it out more subtle, then let it go up a bit, cause I'm just funny that way.
* The Other Promise= Final Mix music. A remix of Roxas. The music Prof. is done speaking.
...ok maybe not. I don't want to triple post, even though I have the third chappie ready and waiting, so as soon as someone posts, I'll post the next chappie, kay?
