Should marijuana be legalized?

- A nice documentary about the history of marijuana criminalization, and a bit on DMT. The marijuana facts are spot on, but the DMT part is a little too metaphysical for our needs here.

I figured since we had the cigarette topic, I'd start this one.

I, personally, think that weed should be legalized (though I know it will probably never happen). And, no, I don't smoke it, although I did try it once. It would definately cut down on our crime rate in the US, since there are people in jail for 5-10 years, who got caught with a blunt in their pocket. It's stupid. Think about Norway, they have legalized marijuana and when they did, the crime rate dropped by an astounding 27%! I will probably have more to say later when someone replies, but that's it for now.

Yeah. "Grass" is fine being a symbol on certain t-shirts and such, but actually puffing on it? Man, those people are sick. Many crimes happen because of people losing their minds due to pot-smoking.

what why would anyone want to legalize pot you may think that the crime rate will go down but in reallity i wont it will just go down then come up again because with all the "pot heads" out there they will commit more crimes because there on drugs!

I think it should be legalized, also I do not smoke it, the reason is, it's not the worst drug out there, and if it's used for medical reasons too, it can't be that harmful, also, whether they legalize it or not, it's gonna be smoked by the same amount of people, only, if it's legalized, it will be sold openly

I see nothing wrong with legalizing it. The only true harm that comes from it is the smoke that goes into your lungs that will harm your lungs. Everything else actually doesn't harm you. One cannot overdose on marijuana. You would have to smoke a few tons of it within a small period of time in order for the THD chemicals (I think that's what the chemicals are called..) to cause an overdose. Tobacco and alcohol is much more dangerous than pot. And actually, marijuana makes a person more attentive of the surroundings. I dunno where you guys got your information...maybe it's those cheap anti-drug commercials that tend to be highly exaggerated and false.

Also, marijuana/hemp makes a much better paper than wood. However, lumber industry lobbyists worked to keep marijuana from taking over and becoming the new paper industry. Therefore, in the 1930s, they got it made illegal.

You've obvioulsy been watching those "My Anti-Drug" commercials. Believe me when I tell you, you will not go out and commit crimes, because, when you're stoned, you're lucky if you can find your own feet (I know some people who smoke it, so trust me). Marijuana does many things, like enhancing taste, sights, sensations, but you certainly do not feel like going out and commiting some random crime.

Anyways, although I am highly for legalizing it (since people use it anyway, plus it has medicinal value), I'm sure it will never be (in the US), and here's why: the government. They won't legalize marijuana in America, because the best marijuana isn't grown in America. They instead, try to get you hooked on legal drugs. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the commercials for stuff like Zoloft, Prozac, etc. All they do in those commercials is keep naming symptoms until they list one you have. And most of those drugs have side effects worse than those of marijuana, examples beings possible heartattack and liver failure. Makes you really think about what they will legalize for a few bucks, huh?

Well it is interesting enough that a lot of ppl in my country use desperate means to get marijuana whether it is through smuggling, importing, etc. but 2 years ago, the police commissioner was wondering if it was a good idea to legalize it. Of course there were people who were against it, but the police's objective was for the crime rates to decrease, therefore less murders, violence. Maybe legalizing it will help somehow...

That's never going to happen and there's a big difference in Tobacco and Weed. Weed is more dangerous to us and Tobacco doesn't have as huge effect against the body.

I, being one that has been against smoking ever sense some of my family died from it, would not like it being allowed... There are too many things that are put out in the public for a small kid to see, and find it as "cool"

Actually, they have studied the effects of marijuana as compared to tobacco and tobacco is many times more harmful to the body than pot is. The only damage pot does is to the lungs. Pot actually has medicinal uses, such as relieving stress and helping manic depressants. What good comes from tobacco?
