The ability's of each would be useful in different situations so it's hard to compare

Byakugan would be useful in stealth and scouting situations due to it's ability to see far away and it's farsight prediction ability. It's also more useful in quick killing and short battles because of it's ability to attack key points in the chakra and nervous system which can shut down a person's ability to move and use bodily functions, along with shutting down Chakra points preventing them from using Jutsu which singifigantly limits thier ability to retaliate against your attacks

Sharingan is better for use in long running battles, because you can predict and thusly evade and counter the opponents attacks, and the longer the battle runs the more you can psychologically attack your opponent if you're skilled in it's use, along with being able to copy and mimic your opponents moves the more they use them. The Sharingan allows it's user to improve themselves over time because of it's ability to copy moves, so the longer a Sharingan user is alive and the more Battle they have seen, the more powerful they become from copying thier opponents techniques

Personally I find the Byakugan better in a universal sense, since it can be used in a large quantity of various situations, where the Sharingan is useful in long-running battles and not in practical situations

You don't want to miss the point that Mangekyou Sharingan is only capable of being earned by a person who uses the sharingan allowing them to use Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu. =P Making Sharingon the overall more powerful technique.

However the Byakugan does give the near 360 view but only up to so many feet before ending.

Its Sharingan...not gon

Anywho (i've seen this argument before) and personally i'd vote for Byukagan, acquiring Mangekyo Sharingan involves the murder of your best friend, while regular Sharingan has the copy cat feature. The problem with that is that the person has to put themselves in a dangerous situation in order for them to copy something decent. It also doesn't really depict raw ability, note that Kakashi's only original technique is the Chidori/Raikiri, and from what we've seen Sasuke has none.

Now Byukagan on the other hand gives roughly a 358 degree field of vision, and has the ability to see through walls and pretty much any barrier (ie a perfect spy and surrveillance tool), which to a Shinobi is far more valuable than that of the ability to copy moves...

Thus Byukagan GMV

So far only 2 people in existance have been capable of using the Mangekyou Sharingan, one of which is dead, the other is near blindness because of it. So I'm basing my opinions one what an average Sharingan user is capable of, and what an average Byakugan user is capable of

The Byakugan actually gives 359 degree(estimated, factoring in the miniscule blind spot) vision up to 50 meters (Nearly 200 feet), not a couple feet. And Genius Byakugan users (Though I stated earlier that I would not be including them in the debate) have the ability to extend this to 800 meters (Over half a mile) of near 360 degree vision

The Byakugan also gives the user the ability to see through basically any matter over extremely long distances. This seems to be a combination of x-ray and thermographic vision, as it has been noted that objects can be difficult to see if their temperature is the same as the objects around them. A small degree of telescopic vision is also present, as a Byakugan user can focus on a single object at any point within their range of vision. Although there is no actual record of how far the Byakugan can see, the degree of focus seems to be dependent on the skill of the user. The Byakugan's sight cannot be blocked, unlike the Sharingan, which can be blocked by any sufficiently non-transparent substance. It is, however, possible to impede the Byakugan's vision slightly through the use of certain powerful seals.

So, I beleive the Sharingan is useful in long-running close-ranged battles, but it's usefulness in other situations is nearly non-existant. The Byakugan gives it's user the qualities and abilities that are treasured in a Shinobi, and it's abilities are invaluable in various situations and missions, along with being highly effective in combat and subduing opponents quickly and effectivley

As stated in the manga etc. The byakugan is superior in every feature excluding the ability to copy jutsu.

you don't want to miss the point that Mangekyou Sharingan is only capable of being earned by a person who uses the sharingon allowing them to use Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu.
Your missing that three people(four now i believe) have been able to do it, and the cost of it is too great(AKA blindness) for it to be used as many times as it would take in order to kill byakugan user.
Also if need by relate sasuke and Neiji in a fight w/o using jutsu except for their bloodline traits.

If those two fought w/o jutsu neji would win... gentle fist > strong fist

In my opinion the Byakugan is much stronger...hell Kakashi even says that its limits are far beyond the Sharingan.

Plus the Byakugan can see past the Sharingan which would allow the possesor to over shadow the others moves...thus being one step ahead, of the average Sharingan user. lets not forget he Byakugan's weilder's other ablities of being able to seal up chakara flow as well as see it exactly where to strike.

bottom line Byakugan is much better

definatly byakugan, sure sharigan can copy techniques and all that, but for one thing what use is copying techniques if your chakra is stopped. Though on the other hand it would be debatable if the person could use Mangekyou Sharingan how fast that would be compared to the abilities of the byakugan (i mean if it could catch kakashi, then its worrying); but overall i still stand with byakugan

If you close your eyes or avoid eye contact, then the Mangekyou Sharingan can't affect you, so the Byakugan user could merely close thier eyes and then use the Byakugan to see through thier Eyelids and the Mangekyou would be rendered completely useless, and then be able to close the Chakra points that lead to the eyes so the Sharingan user would be completely unable to activate thier Sharingan

while most of what is stated is true the user of the sharingan can still mimic taijutsu also and if it was just a straight fight with doujutsu then the would be standing there because you cant throw a punch without using taijutsu and dont forget naruto beat neji and naruto doesn't have doujutsu (just a freakin demon) and he used taijutsu to do it so if the sharingan wielder was a master of high speed taijutsu the byakugan wouldn't be of much use and no jutsu so that means no rotation right the byakugan user would have to be as fast as rock lee in his inner gates formation to keep up imo sharingan ftw (plus it looks cooler)

Yeow, that does seem pretty accurate, not too mention it mentions sasuke's taijutsu near rivaling Lee's seeing as he was able to time himself with incredible accuracy and movement.

In order to reproduce copied jutsu, however, one must have the necessary skill or ability to perform them. A prime example is Rock Lee's brand of taijutsu. While Sasuke was able to copy some of Lee's moves, they put a much more significant strain on him since he hasn't trained nearly as hard as Lee has.

So copying Taijutsu does not instantly grant the Sharingan user the same level of strength, speed, agility, or experiance as the person they copied it from, they are still under the same limitations as any other Shinobi. So although Sasuke can mimic some of Rock Lee's moves, the fact that he does not posess the physical ability that Rock Lee possesses limits how effective his mimic really is.

Secondly, Lee already states that he has never been able to defeat Neji in Combat, because the Byakugan's 360 degree vision and insight renders high speed inefective, because the Byakugan can see, sense, and evade movement within thier field of vision near instantaniously. In the instance where the Byakugan user does not have the reaction time to evade, they can merely use the Hakkeshō Kaiten to knock the attacker away to prevent them from getting near

So the Sharingan user cannot instantly aquire the level of skill or physical ability of the person they are copying a Jutsu from, so they do not possess any speed or agility beyond what any Shinobi or Byakugan user can attain

Sharingan doesn't allow you to be one step ahead of your opponent, it makes it so that you can atleast stay up to par with your oppnents movements, the Sharingan user's physical ability is what decides whether they have the ability to effeciently evade the movements that they read

Sasuke himself says that Chakra itself is too wild and untamed to predict and read, and the Byakugan is all about being able to control Chakra and release it from thier Body to attack the opponent

the sharingan makes it where you can predict your opponents movements almost before they know it themselves it is true that your own physical abilities would limit your performance but it doesn't mean you couldn't do it if you have had training prior to the fight plus the high speed taijutsu was just an example they could copy the gentle fist with enough training it may not be acurate but it still would be useful.

The Sharingan allows you to read muscle movements to guess what the opponent is about to do, it doesn't allow you to predict the movements. And the Byakugan's insight does the exact same thing, allowing them to read muscle movement

The fact is, that it isn't the Sharingan itself that gives the Shinobi high speed, it's the Shinobi doing high-speed taijutsu training that does, which means that the Sharingan is not what allowed them to do this, so it has no place in this debate. High Speed Taijutsu can be learned by anyone, including a Byakugan user, so it's not the Sharingan that is allowing it's user to learn it, so it is not a result of having a Sharingan

And the Sharingan cannot copy, mimic, or every hint how to do Bloodline Limits or Clan Specific Techniques, so a Sharingan user could not learn the Gentle Fist, and without a Byakugan they would be unable to use it, because the Byakugan grants them the ability to see and control the Chakra circulatory system and the 64 Chakra points, which allows them to release Chakra from thier body and use it to attack the opponent

Exactly, you don't need to, so it has no place in this debate, because a Sharingan and a Byakugan user are able to learn it.

And, like I said before, high speed taijutsu is useless against a Byakugan user

The Byakugan's 360 degree vision and insight renders high speed inefective, because the Byakugan can see, sense, and evade movement within thier field of vision near instantaniously. In the instance where the Byakugan user does not have the reaction time to evade, they can merely use the Hakkesho Kaiten to knock the attacker away to prevent them from getting near

And in the instance where a Byakugan user does know high speed taijutsu, this coupled with the Gentle Fist style, the Byakugan user would be near undefeatable in single combat
