Chapter 1 ~ The Beginning
Hi, my name is Sakura.Which means cherry blossoms in Japanese.
I have shoulder length brown hair, but it looks red because I have 50,000 red streaks in it.I wear black cloths most of the time and I’m almost 16 years old.
Oh and just so you know I’m not even near being Japanese. See my mom was obsessed with anything and everything that had to do with Japan. She said she would take me there one day, but now she can’t. You know why? Because about a month ago, she died in a car crash.
So now I have to move in with my father who I haven’t seen or talked to since I was five. (Some great dad huh?)
So today I start my new life. With a new school, and a new home.
Chapter 2 ~ The Meeting
I got in the cab with the social working that was “taking care of me” for the time being, and you won’t believe what I saw.
His apartment wasn’t even big enough for a mouse! It was this ugly, gray color, and the windows in the front had obviously not been washed in months, maybe years. The grass all around it had turned brown. The whole complex could use some TLC if you ask me. All of the apartments in the complex looked exactly the same. Though for some reason my father’s seemed worse. I don’t know if it’s because it was his apartment, or if it really was worse, but I knew that the inside was going to be even worse than the outside. It looked so small from the outside. I can’t even imagine what the inside will look like.
This is gonna be bad, I kept thinking,
It’s going to be really bad.
The next thing I knew, I was outside of the door with the social worker. She knocked on the door and said,
“Hello, I have someone here who is very eager to meet you!”
While she was saying that I glared at her in a way that said “Yea right, I really want to meet the man who ignored me for half my life.”
She glared back at me. I looked away from her face and then I heard my father say,“Hi both of you come in.”
Before he even finished that sentence, the social worker handed me my bags and ran off to the cab as fast as she could. Maybe she didn’t want to meet him as much as I did. Wait, no, I could beat anyone in a hatred contest toward this man. I sighed and went into the apartment.
I looked around quick and my father looked like a bum. He obviously hadn’t shaved in days. He was wearing a gray shirt that looked black because of how dirty it was. And some extremely baggy jean that screamed ugly. It was horrible. After looking at him, and around his apartment I knew that he was a bum.
And the apartment? Well I was right. The inside was much worse than the outside. The kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom were all in one room. Put together. There was a bedroom about the size of a walk in closet in the back. The only light in the room was a light hanging from the ceiling. From what I could see, that light was going to crash down any second now. All I know is that there is no way I’m staying there.
Well after about an hour of staring at each other, the floor and the ceiling. I finally built up enough nerve to talk to him without completely going off about how ridiculously small his apartment was, but sadly the amount of nerve I spent an hour of my life building up was only enough for a polite “Hi.”
And five seconds after that hi I went into lala land (a place I often visit) and started thinking about how I never had any trouble talking to Mom. Like never. We always had something to talk about. She was my best friend and I was hers. And then he talked which ended my trip to lala land really quick.
My dad said, “Hi, um are you hungry? Do you want something to drink or anything?”
I said no even though I was starving. I didn’t like it there, and I wasn’t planning on staying, but I figured tomorrow I’d get both something to eat and I would tell him that he needed to find a bigger apartment.
Chapter 3 ~ Where Are You?
Well I woke up to an empty room. That for some reason is even considered as an apartment. I could see straight through to where the closet that was called a bedroom was. So where could my father possibly have gone?
I put on a black shirt and a pair of old jeans to go outside and look for him.
He wasn’t there either.
It was starting to get on my nerves. My dad should have waited till I got up to leave. Then I would actually know where he was going.
So I went back into the apartment, and looked if there was a note or anything left out for me so I would know where he was. When I didn’t find one I grabbed my dark blue hoodie, and went to go see if I could find him.
After running half way across the town, and having 50 guys whistle and stare at me I still couldn’t find my dad.
It was definitely one of those moments where I wished I was 16 so I could legally drive a car. Well kind of.
After that I officially decided that I was going back to the apartment.
There was no way I was gonna look for him anymore.
Five seconds after I finally made up my mind my stomach growled so loud u could hear it in Japan. To make it worse I was right by Burger King.
To resist the urge to spend what little money I did have with me, I ran. All the way back to that apartment as fast as I could. Which made me even more hungry.
Then once I finally got back my dad was there. He was just staring at the door. Like he was waiting for me. He’s the one who just got up and left. I was looking for him! Then I saw the look on his face. He is really angry. His face is completely red. Like redder than a cherry red. This could get bad. Wait no, this will be bad. He started to move toward me. Either he was moving extremely slow, or he was just moving slow in my mind. Like in those movies where something bad is about to happen, and everything does into slow-mo, and you see everything that happened perfectly. Well ladies and gentlemen either you can save me now, or you can tell the police how I really died. Personally, I like breathing so if you could do the first one that would be great. I took a big gulp and closed the door.
Once he got close enough to blow my hearing out he yelled,
“Where have you been young lady?!”
I yell back “Looking fo-“
Then a really loud booming of “Don’t you talk back to me!” after that came he said some random other things that I didn’t really care about, but when he started to talk about my mom like he knew her, I snapped. I started yelling right back at my dad, and his face got even redder. (Which at the time I didn’t think it was humanly possible, but it did.)
Eventually, I didn’t get to say anything else. You know why? Well actually neither do I. All I know was that there was a sharp pain in the side of my face, and once I finally got back up I realized that I had just been punched. Which is illegal, right? I thought so.
With that I ran out the door into the streets and started looking for my old home. For my actual home. The placed where someone would actually tell me if they were leaving before I got up, or at least would leave a note somewhere. The place where I wouldn’t get punched for no reason. (Well almost no reason, but he didn’t have to punch me for yelling back. Grounding would work fine.)
Chapter 4 ~ Questions
After being punched I started thinking. Which lead to me realizing why my mom made us move so much. She always said that we were going on new adventures. To new places. So we could meet new people. And see new sights.
But after that I started wondering . . . maybe the actual reason we moved so much was because she didn’t want my father to find me. Maybe it was because she didn’t want him to find us. I think my mom knew how abusive he was. I think she knew he would come after me. I’m sure that’s why we moved around so much.
Thinking about all those questions gave me the biggest one ever . . .
What if my mom’s death wasn’t on an accident?
The other driver just ran when he or she hit her.
It could have been him, but why would he want to kill my mom?
I looked up to see how far I had ran already. I was far enough that he couldn’t catch me on foot, but not far enough that he couldn’t catch me with the car. Actually there’s no where that would be too far for him to catch me with a car. Unless of course I magically teleported to a different state. Then he still could catch me by car, but it’d take longer. Anyway, I have about ten more blocks to run before I got to my house.
There were only three things that were running through my mind the entire 10 blocks. The first one was; Why?! The second one was; Run faster! You can’t let him catch you! And the third one was actually all of the questions I had before. All those things clashing in my head at once was starting to give me a big headache.
Then I looked up again. Ten blocks had shortened into about 2 ½ .A rush of relief came when I realized that. A few more minutes until I can hopefully find some answers. Then again what answers are you going to find in an empty house?
All I know is if he really did kill my mom there is no way he’s getting away with it. I’ll make sure of that.
Just before reaching my house a new question came into my head. I wondered what he could possibly want that my mom has. What’s so valuable that he had to kill her to get it? Why exactly did he want whatever it was? It’s not like me or my mom have anything valuable. At least I don’t think so.
Those same questions and about fifty others were flowing through my head as I walked toward the front gate to the place where I used to live. I saw the
For Sale sign in front of my old home and kicked it down right away. I didn't want them selling this place. At least not yet. I got to the front gate. It was locked so my only option was to climb over the huge fence that surronded my entire home. I grabbed as far up as I could and started to climb, five minutes later I reached the top. I jumped down and walked across the front lawn to get to the porch stairs. As I looked up I noticed that the huge Victorian house I once lived in looked almost exactly the same. Even the vines on the side of the house that I had climbed up and down for so many years. From what I could see two idiotic kids must of gotten past the gate, because the two huge stained glass window that were in front of the house were broken in certain places.
Jerks, I thought. If you haven’t guessed already I did live in a huge house resembling a mansion. Ok, Ok it was a mansion. I got to the huge front door, and I took the key to the house out of my pocket. Hoping that it would work when I put it in. Luckily, they hadn’t changed the locks yet and it did. I turned the key and opened the door to the place I used to call my home.
Chapter 5 ~ The Voice
I went inside the hallway of my old home, and for some reason the house didn’t seem mine anymore. It seemed cold and dark. I felt as if I almost shouldn’t have been there. Actually I got a shiver down my spine right when I stepped into the house. It was almost pitch black inside. I walked over to the light switch, but when I flicked it up the light wouldn’t turn on.
“They probably turned the electricity off in this place.” I said in a low voice.
I went to the staircase and started walking to my mom’s old room. Just before I reached he room I passed my old room. It had nothing in it except the old drawings I did on the walls. I smiled at the sight of them.
Then suddenly I heard a voice come from my mom’s bedroom.
Oh no, don’t let it be him, I thought
I walked out of my old room, and slowly walked down the rest of the hallway to my mother’s former room. Very carefully I opened the door to my mom’s old room, but inside there was nothing. There was no one in her room. Where did the voices come from then?
I looked around. It looked exactly like I remembered it. Except it didn’t have any furniture in it anymore. But somehow it was still as nice as before.
Actually, all of the stuff had been taken out of the room except an old mirror. It was still covered by a sheet too. Just like it always was when I was little.
~.:Flashback:.~
(In Sakura’s mother’s room.)
Little Sakura, “Mommy, Why is that mirror always covered?”
* Sakura’s mother smiles *
“It’s covered because I don’t want dust to get all over it.” Sakura’s mother replied hugging Sakura.
“Well that’s a silly reason!” Sakura yelled.
~.:End of Flashback:.~
Suddenly the voice came back.
“Where are you?! Who are you?!” I yelled
Then I realized the voices sounded like they were coming from in front of me, but the only thing in front of me was that mirror. And last I’d checked inanimate objects couldn’t talk. Still, I moved toward the mirror, and pulled off the cover on it. Once I did, I knew that the reason her mother kept it covered wasn’t because she was afraid of dust getting on it.
She kept it covered for an entirely different reason.
Chapter 6 ~ Did That Mirror Just Talk?!
I swear I just saw a face in that mirror. You’re going insane Sakura. You need to get some sleep. Just a stupid illusion. You’re tired. That’s it. You’re just seeing things. I thought to try and convince myself I was. It wasn’t all that convincing though.
I looked in the mirror again, but all I could see when I looked in the mirror was the extremely huge welt I had on the side of my face from my father punching me earlier.
Suddenly the face appeared in the mirror again. I didn’t get a good look but I could tell that if there was a face in the mirror, that face was definitely a girl’s face. Unless a guy has really long hair. Which now that I think about it, that’s not really uncommon these days. Anyways, I was sure I was going insane. A mirror can’t talk. Then that face reappeared long enough for me to see what he/she (hopefully she) looked like.
Thank god, it was a she. Although she had no body. She was just a floating head in a mirror. (God help me) She had long brown hair. Past that I have no clue what she looked like because well . . . she has no body.
Then the mirror talked.
“No way,” I said trying to convince myself, “There is no way that mirror just talked.”
I turned away from the mirror and heard a female voice yell, “Where do you think your going?!”
“Sorry, but this is getting a little too snow whitey for me.” I replied into thin air feeling like a complete idiot.
“Snow whitey? What is snow whitey?” It asked
“Snow White. With the mirror on the wall, and you ask it a question then the mirror tells u the answ-” I paused, “I’m going insane! I’m talking to a MIRROR!” I yelled
“What? You don’t believe that I’m talking to you?” The mirror said
“Of course I don’t believe that your talking! You’re a mirror!” I yelled as loud as I could.
The mirror started rambling on and on about destiny and what I have to do.
I ignored it and said “This is all a dream, your dreaming, you’ll wake up any moment now and this will all be over.” After that I started to walk out of the room.
“If you walk away you’ll never found out what happened to your mom.” The mirror said and then I glared at the mirror, and it yelled, “Hello?! Do you want to know what happened or not? We don’t have much time before he gets here!”
“Before who gets here?” I asked it
“The warlock of course. Well here’s the deal kid. I hav-“
“My name is Sakura.” I cut her off before she finished her sentence. “And I’m not going to stand here and have a conversation with a mirror! You’re an inanimate object! Shut up! And let me leave with at least a little bit of my sanity left!” I paused for about five seconds after saying that and yelled, “Did you just say warlock?!”
“Yes I did. I can’t explain now I have a friend waiting downstairs for you. He’ll fill u in on everything and answer your questions. He’ll be with you your entire journey too.” The mirror said
“WHAT JOURNEY! And who’s your friend?! The toaster?!” I yelled
“No, he’s an actual person” she replied condescendingly “He’ll help you to find the truth.”
“Ok, I don’t really feel like talking to an inanimate object anymore so I’m going to go.” I said.
With that I covered up the mirror and went downstairs to leave.
But just before I left the mirror said that I must get out of the house quick for he will be here soon. I glared at the stupid mirror again and left.
I went downstairs, and to my surprise there was a boy around my age waiting for me. He had dark brown hair and blue eyes that you could get lost in (I know because I did for a second), and was wearing all black cloths. He was actually pretty cute too. He was also better than a toaster, and much better than a stupid mirror.
“Sakura?” he said
I looked up and said “Yes?”
Chapter 7 ~ The Boy
Ok, originally I would not follow a boy I just met. Especially because a mirror is the one who told me about him. The truth is the only reason I did follow him was because he had food. Which is a very bad reason, but in my defense, I hadn’t eaten in about two days and was starving. This is going to sound so bad, but he was really cute! And trust me. I never say that about anyone.
We were outside walking toward the front gate when I noticed that it was now open. But how could have it opened? You need the key, and I lived here and I don’t have it anymore. So how is it open now? I ran up to the doors and looked if that boy used something to pry it open. There wasn’t even a scratch on the door. It was fine. Nothing was making sense lately. Why would that? I sighed and walked out the front gate. He was out too, and I forgot to close the gate so I went back to do so, but when I got there the gate was already closed. I watched the boy I was with leave and he didn’t do it so who did? I walked away to where the boy was standing and we left.
The whole time neither of us said anything. There was just awkward silence. Except when a dog, wolf or some other animal that can howl started to howl. Then I moved toward him and he grinned like it was stupid of me to be afraid of that sound. I believe in werewolves, so it was a reaction. The grin was not necessary. I glared at him and the he just grinned again. This time even bigger than before.
What a jerk, I thought to myself,
He not so cute anymore. After that thought I hit him in the arm. He looked at me like I was a moron and asked me what that was for. Yet again I glared at him. This time I started to run away though. He followed me of course, and I guess he heard some of my conversation with the mirror in my mothers room because he said, “Hi my name is toaster.” After that he started cracking up, and I tried not to at first but I eventually ended up laughing with him.
Anyway, about 30 minutes later we ended up at this old park. You could tell nobody had been there for ages. The grass wasn’t cut and the lamp posts were all broken. It was a complete dump. Why would he take me here? Not a good way to get a girl to like you. Oh, and in a friend kind of way you weird people! I just met the dude. I you think I’m going out with him you’re way past wrong. Besides he acts like a complete jerk to me. Cha right. I don’t like that idiot. Hmph.
He grabbed a blanket out of a backpack that he had with him and laid it on the ground. Then he took out the food and we started talking. I found out his name was Yukito. And that I could call him Yuki. Not that I actually would call him Yuki.
“Another Japanese name though.” I thought and then realized I had just said that out loud.
“Why yes cherry blossom my name is Japanese too.” Yukito said
“Haha, you’re not funny.” I replied back condescendingly.
“Well it is your name.” Yukito said laughing
“No it’s the meaning of my name. My actually name is Sakura not cherry blossom.” I replied glaring at him.
“Same diff,” Yukito said “So do u want to know what powers you have now?”
Chapter 8~ Leave Me Alone Yukito!
That conversation took an unusual twist. Which lead to me yelling the following. Which lead to the next part of the extremely weird conversation. Well, argument or umm fight? Well you’ll see.
“Powers?! What powers?!” I yelled
“The ones you have to use to stop the warlock. A.k.a. your dad.” Yukito said
“Ok you need a major reality check!” I started yelling louder, “My father is not a warlock, My mother is not a witch and I am not a witch either!”
“Ok, A; I never called you a witch so you just made that up in your head. B; Yes your father is, yes your mother was and yes you are too. C; Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night.” Yukito replied. I could tell he was starting to get annoyed with me.
I was getting really sick of him too. So after that I ran as fast as I could. All the way back to the front entrance to the park. Yukito followed of course, and was yelling for me to stop all the way to the front gate. I ignored him of course. I just kept running. Except when I turned to see if he was still there. Then I turned looked at him and yelled, “You’re insane!”
Sadly, it turns out that Yukito was a faster runner than me, and the only reason he hadn’t caught me yet was because I had a head start. Which I lost when I stopped for a second. After realizing this I tried to run even faster. I started moving all around, and throwing objects in the way. This worked for about five minutes. After that he caught me.
“You know as long as I’m faster than you, you won’t be able to run away from me.” Yukito yelled and grabbed my arm so I couldn’t run away again.
“Take your hands off me!” I yelled
“Ok, there’s no need to make a scene.” Yukito said back
“We’re in an abandoned par-” I said before realizing that I had actually run out of the park, and into the city. I paused for a second and said, “Take your hands off me or you won’t get a scene. You’ll get a Broadway musical.”
Yukito let me go, and told me to follow him. Reluctantly, I did. So we walked over to this little alleyway. Once we got there, Yukito whispered something to me.
“If you would like him to find you then go ahead and make a scene. If you want to find out what happened to your mother follow me.”
I stood there for a few seconds just staring at the ground.
Then suddenly we weren’t alone in that alleyway.
Chapter 9 ~ Help!
“Found you!” Someone yelled.
Yukito grabbed my arm, and pulled me to the side. About five seconds after that I saw something fly right past where I was standing. Yukito told me to run, but I couldn’t move. Suddenly I knew what the expression “frozen in fear” meant.
I looked over and I saw a dagger on the ground. Someone was trying to kill me! Why?! Who?! What do I have that someone could possible want?! I still couldn’t move. My brain was saying run, but my legs were stuck in the spot Yukito had pulled me into earlier.
Yukito! I looked to see where Yukito was. To my surprise, Yukito was fighting!
Yukito yelled out for me to run again.
Yet again I didn’t. Not because I was scared, but because I wanted to help. For some strange odd reason I really did want to help. This time it wasn’t my head against my legs. It was more my head against my heart. Why did I have to be one of the very few kids to grow up with morals!
I was finally able to move my legs again. Then I looked around for anything I could use as a weapon. Then I found this plank of wood. And then felt extremely stupid because there was also a dagger in the middle of the alleyway. So I walked over to find it, but it wasn’t there. Yukito probably already picked it up.
Well, I hope he did.
I realized he hadn’t when the same man came running towards me with the same dagger. I screamed and suddenly that guy was suspended in the air.
I gasped and looked at my hands. Then he dropped. I screamed again. (This time even louder) And while he was looking on the ground for the dagger I grabbed the plank of wood. The second he found the dagger and got up I whacked him with the plank of wood as hard as I possibly could.
Yukito just stared at me with amazement the whole time. I ran up to him. Completely shaken and confused and he still just stared at me. I have no clue what just happened, but I wasn’t going to stay in that spot so whoever that was could attack me again. Suddenly, Yukito ran towards the man who had just attacked us, (mainly me) and grabbed the dagger he had used to try and kill me. Yukito came back, and I looked at him. Then I yelled, “Run!”
Five seconds after that we both ran out of the alleyway. Just before running out I realized the guy that I had just knocked out, the guy who Yukito was fighting, the guy who tried to kill me, actually was my dad.
Great, I thought,
my father really is trying to kill me! My family is so great. We’re the perfect example of what a family should be. I scoffed and kept running. My father looked different this time though. He actually did shave. He had on these black pants and this black leather jacket. It was really weird. He went from bum to psycho freaky killer.
We got about 2 blocks away from where we were before, and I realized that Yukito was still staring at me. I laughed at that. I guess he was really surprised I did that. And after seeing him fight for me like that I didn’t really think he was a jerk anymore. I figured I’d hear him out about the whole magical powers thing. Especially after I accidentally used them. That kind of proved he was telling the truth. I couldn’t call him insane about it anymore either. And you know it was the least I could do. After all I was acting like a jerk before too. But I mean come on if you had just found out that you have magical powers that you inherited from your mother how would you act? Especially if you found it out from a complete stranger. And on top of all that, my
father of all people, just tried to kill me. I think I deserved to be a little jerky, or at least pissed off.
Chapter 10 ~ My Biggest Question . . . Answered
We were out of breath. There was no way we could have run any farther than we already had. Which had to be about a mile. At least it felt like it. We slowed down a bit. Both of us were out of breath and extremely tired. I wanted to run more just in case my father woke up and was running after us, but there was no way my body was moving. I groaned when Yukito tried to run more. Yukito stared at me and grinned like he usually does. The Yukito grabbed my hand and pulled me up.
“No more running.” I mumbled
Yukito just kept on pushing me to our new destination. Which was another park. Only this one wasn’t run down. The lights actually worked, and the grass had been cut. There was a huge clock and I could clearly see that it was 3:12am.
Then Yukito pushed me again. Only this time to a bench. Which I was very happy about. Past that I don’t remember anything because I fell asleep. Oops. Heh Heh, I guess I was tired.
Yukito woke me up at 7:00 and nearly died because he did. Then he dragged me to a new place after saying that we needed to talk.
Could we not just talk in the park?! I thought. We had done so much running by the time we got to the new place I was perfectly awake. Enough awake to see that the place we were at was a brick wall.
I looked at Yukito like he was an idiot and there was that stupid grin again. Yukito walked forward, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Yukito walked
through the wall! I took a big gulp and walked toward the wall too. Next thing I knew I was right beside Yukito in this huge room. I looked back and there was the alleyway the wall was in. There was this portal leading right to it. It looked like it was crystal clear water. I stuck my hand out to touch it but then it disappeared in a flash.
I stepped back moving my hand away from the wall. Only now the wall looked like it was made from marble. I could see Yukito grinned even more at my amazement. Apparently he was used to this. I turned around. All the walls looked exactly the same. I looked to the roof and realized that the entire room was a huge dome.
“Yukito!” A girl yelled, “Oh how we’ve missed you!”
The girl ran up and gave Yukito a huge hug.
Someone actually likes him!? I thought,
Wait she said ‘ we’ve’, more than one person likes him?!
I looked at her when she done hugging Yukito.
She had long blonde hair and she was wearing a long black coat that went all the way down to the floor. Other than I could see she was wearing some really nice black boots (which I totally want now.) The long black jacket did a really good job of hiding what she was wearing underneath.
“Sakura, this is Tama” Yukito said
“Hi” I said, a little disappointed for some strange odd reason.
“My sister” Yukito added
“Oh! Hi!” I said happily, not quite sure why the fact that Tama was Yukito’s sister suddenly changed things.
“Hi” Tama said back, “So Sakura, right?”
“Yea” I replied
Tama looked back at Yukito and smiled. Suddenly, a wave of jealously came over me. I quickly walked over to Yukito, who yet again, grinned at me. I looked away, and then Tama signaled for us to follow her.
Tama took us to an even bigger room. I’m pretty sure it was a library because of all the books on the shelves.
Yukito reached down into his pocket and took out that dagger he had grabbed just before we left where my dad had attacked us, well me.
Then Yukito grabbed a book off a table and said, “This is an
a-t-h-a-m-e,” really slow like I was an idiot or something, “ Warlocks, like your father use them to take witches powers.”
I glared at him and then said, “Would you stop talking to me like I’m two?”
Yukito’s grin came back and then he said, “Ok.”
Then Yukito went on and on about what those athame things do, what warlocks really are, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Yukito told me about how my powers and my magical capabilities are going to get a lot stronger. Yukito also said that I would eventually find out what all my powers are, and that as I grow stronger as a witch my powers will grow with me. I thought Yukito was done, but it turns out that he saved the best for last.
“Sakura,” Yukito said in a real low voice, “Your father . . . is the one . . . ” Yukito paused for a few seconds, “who killed your mother, she didn’t die of a car crash that night.”
Those words hit me like a ton of bricks. I stepped back, and then started to run away. I ran back to where I had entered with Yukito earlier. Once I got there . . . I stopped. I couldn’t go through. What if my father was out there waiting for me? I didn’t want to die too! I started tearing up just before Yukito and Tama got there. By the time they actually got to me I was sobbing. I couldn’t stop. Yukito put his hand on my shoulder and then pulled me into his arms. Usually I would have pulled away right then and there, but I was way too upset. How could my father do that? Why? Wait, does that mean he has my mother’s powers too? More questions kept coming into my head, and as they did I wept.
I thought that my father had killed her before, but I didn’t want to be right.
Chapter 11 ~Training Time
I eventually stopped crying. It took awhile, but I did. After that Yukito told me even more stuff. Which was just so much fun! In case you can’t tell for some strange odd reason, I was being sarcastic before.
Again with the questions. What’s kind of weird is that all these questions come up right after I talk to Yukito. Coincidence, I think not.
Anyways, How could my father do that?!My own father killed my mother?! Well if that doesn’t say family issues I don’t know what does! What I do know, is that he’s not getting away with it. I’ll stop him if it’s that last thing I do.
Yukito walked into the room, “Sakura,” he said, “are you ok?”
“Well lets see,” I answered, “I just found out that I have magical powers that will unleash all kinds of evils, and that the evil my powers unleashed will eventually come after me. Also I found out that my mother is a witch, my father is a warlock, oh and did I mention that my father killed my mother to get her powers. On top of that all, my father is now trying to kill me to get my powers, and I have no clue what they are!”
“Yea, so now would be a bad time to tell you there’s more huh?” Yukito said
“Yes, now would be a very bad time to tell me there’s more.” I answered and then screamed in a pillow. I took the pillow off my face and mumbled, “and the hits just keep on coming.”
“I heard that.” Yukito said.
“Yea well.” I answered
“Well, instead of telling you more bad news, how about I teach you to control your powers.” Yukito said back to me.
“I don’t even know what my powers are!” I yelled at Yukito, “all I know is that I did the thing with my hands and my dad raised up in the air and then he dropped when I put my hands down.”
“It’s called telekinesis.” Yukito told me, “now lets go practice how to use it.”
Yukito started to walk out of the room. When he got to the door he signaled for me to follow him. I glared a Yukito and then got up. I slowly moved to the door where Yukito was waiting. I wasn’t too ecstatic about practicing something I didn’t want in the first place.
We walked through the huge hallways of the building Yukito took me to. I later found out that the place was a safe haven for witches. Where they could practice magic freely and learn about magic too.
I also found out that it was started by my mother, and that Yukito’s entire family knew her. Also that my mother is the one who told Yukito to find me if anything ever happened to her. Well something happened to her. So I got to not only meet Yukito, but have my entire life change in a second. Not minute, second. It’s faster.
Once we finally got to the end of what seemed to be a never-ending hallway, we reached the most beautiful garden I have ever seen. There was a huge maze in it too. The maze was completely made up of bushes, and the bushes were so thick you couldn’t move through them if you tried. Lining all the paths were different flowers. None of them looked the same. Different sizes, colors and heights. I stood there in awe. Then it was ruined because Yukito tried to get me to use my powers again.
“I don’t know how I did it!” I screamed at Yukito
Then suddenly he ran away. I couldn’t find him. Then all of a sudden.
“Ah!” Yukito screamed as he came up behind me.
I swung my arm toward him and the suddenly he hit a bush that was right behind me.
“You move things when you’re scared.” Yukito said as he was getting out of the bush.
“Huh?” I said, “I don’t even now how I did that!”
“A witches powers are tied to their emotions,” Yukito answered, “You use your power of telekinesis when you’re scared.”
“Ok, just because I did it once when you came up behind me does not mean that.” I said
“You’ve done it twice!” Yukito yelled back at me
“When?!” I yelled
“When your father came charging at you with the athame, you moved your hand and he few up in the air,” Yukito said, “Why did you make him go up in the air . . . were you scared.”
“Ok, ok I was scared then too.” I answered to shut Yukito up, “Now stop.”
“Ok, now I’m going to teach you how to use your powers without being scared.” Yukito said while walking toward me.
“Stop saying powers. I have a power. Not plural.” I said glaring at him.
“Oh, you’ll find out what your other powers are, sooner than you think.” Yukito said grinning at me.
I sighed. This was going to be a long day. There was no way Yukito was going to let me stop until I know how to use my powers. Which could take forever. Though I do have to say, throwing Yukito through the air like that, was really fun. If the whole power thing didn’t come with my father trying to kill me thing, I wouldn’t mind if I had them. However, the power thing does come with the dad trying to kill me thing and it is sad, because otherwise they would rock.
Chapter 12 ~ Leaving
My entire body ached.
I finally figured out how to use my power without being scared. It took three days, but I did it.
That’s not why my entire body hurt though. It hurt because since then Yukito has been trying to teach me some weird type of martial art called Kimigori. What that is, I still don’t know.
Anyway, Yukito is currently having a very hard time believing that I am the most uncoordinated idiot on the planet earth. My hand-eye coordination is zero. I’m about as flexible as a plank of wood, and I can’t do any of the things he is trying to make me do! I’m horrible, and we’ve already spent a week on this!
Oh no, someone is coming. Please don’t let it be . . .
“Sakura!” Tama yelled in a friendly tone, “is Yukito working you like a dog?” she laughed.
It was Tama, just Tama. I thought and then sighed from the huge rush of relief that just hit me.
“Yukito is horrible,” I answered, “he’s making me get up at five in the morning every day! And my body hurts so bad right now. It’s not even funny anymore!”
“That’s Yukito for ya.” Tama replied laughing, “hey wanna meet everyone else here? I won’t let Yukito get you. And it might be fun!”
“Sure . . . if I can get up.” I said smiling. It had been awhile since I smiled. After everything that had happened smiling just didn’t seem right. But somehow Tama had a way of making anyone smile. I don’t know how, but she did.
Tama grabbed my hand and helped me get up. “Ow, ow, ow, ow, OW!” I screamed, at first it was because I was walking, but then the door flew open and hit me in the face. Guess who it was . . . Yukito.
“No, no, no, NO!” Tama yelled, “Sakura is coming with me for a while.”
Tama rushed toward me and pushed me out the door.
“Ow, pain” I said
“Oh, sorry” Tama answered
We walked down the hallways until we got to the biggest room I’ve ever seen. There were tons of people inside. I couldn’t believe it. How could that many people fit in one room? It was like half the human population in there!
“Hey everyone!” Tama yelled, “this is Sakura!”
“Hi” they all said waving to us. Mainly me I think.
I looked around. The room was huge. It was bigger than a decent apartment. Actually, it was bigger than two decent sized apartments put together.
We walked into the crowd. Everyone was really nice. When I came with Tama everyone stopped talking and greeted me. Like I was actually part of their family. Maybe they were so nice because all of them knew my mother. I know that all of them did because every time we stopped I heard, “oh you poor dear, losing your mother like that. Well you just know your mother was a very nice, kind person and we all loved her. We miss her dearly, just like you.” Which wouldn’t be annoying if they didn’t say in baby talk. I’m not two. Other than that, it wasn’t that bad. I’ve never met people this nice before.
After an hour of meeting people Tama took me over to the other side of the room so we could talk. Longer than we usually did too. Tama was like my best friend now. Every night after Yukito finally let me go we talked. It was nice to have someone other than Yukito to talk to. Especially because Yukito is about as sensitive as a rock.
“Hey” Yukito said innocently.
Tama and I looked at each other, and then looked at him.
“What?” we said in unison.
“Sakura lets go and train a bit.” Yukito said with the same innocent look on his face.
“No!” I yelled back, “enough with the training! I am horrible. I will never be able to do any of the things your currently trying to make me do!”
“Fine,” Yukito said back to me, “ then I think it’s about time we move onto something else.”
“What?” I asked him, half afraid of what he might say.
“Meet me in the library at seven tonight, you’ll find out there.” Yukito said back with the same stupid grin as always. After that we started walking away.
Tama looked at me with a questioning look. I shrugged. I wanted to know what he was think too. What could Yukito so with me at 7:00 at night? I sighed and started talking to Tama again. The second I did everyone in the room was asking me what Yukito said. Why is he so popular here?
* * *
7:00pm -
Well after talking to everyone for about two - three hours I found out that everyone in that room is somehow related to . . . you guessed it Yukito. Except for me . . . I hope. I shuttered from the thought. Just then an annoying familiar voice came from right behind me.
“So you did come,” Yukito said, “I thought I was going to have to hunt you down.”
I glared at him as he walked closer toward me.
“Yukito what are you doing?” I asked as he grabbed my shoulders and started pushing me toward a wall.
“We’re going outside. To the place that isn’t here.” Yukito replied, “We have to get rid of your father eventually.”
After hearing those words I instantly broke out of Yukito’s grip and ran to the other side of the library.
No, no ,no, no, NO! I thought
“I figured this would happen,” Yukito said shaking his head, “ What you thought we would stay here forever and all your problems would just disappear?”
“I was fond of that idea, so yea I kinda did.” I replied
Yukito started walking toward me again.
I have to go, I thought,
if I don’t leave I can’t make him pay for killing my mom, right? I gulped. I didn’t want to go out there.
Yukito grabbed my arm, and he started pulling to the portal that we came in through. I could see the alleyway it was hidden in too.
I was shaking like crazy. I really didn’t want to go out there. Yukito looked at me and then walked through. Then I heard a familiar voice yell to me,
“You can do it Sakura! Go get that rotten father of yours! You can beat him, I know you can!” Tama yelled waving goodbye to me. Everyone else was waving goodbye too. They were all standing right behind Tama cheering me on.
Finally I closed my eyes and took my first step into the portal. I kept walking, and eventually someone touched my shoulder. I screamed, and then opened my eyes. It was just Yukito. And hey I was scared and I didn’t use my powers. Big improvement huh?
I turned around. Everyone was right in front of the portal now. Still waving goodbye to me and Yukito. I watched the wall as the portal slowly faded away.
Chapter 13 ~ Home Again
I stood there in the alleyway not wanting to move. I knew that what was coming next. I knew what I would have to do. I wanted to get revenge on my father for killing my mother, but what if I fail? Then he gets my powers too. Who will stop him then?
I shook my head trying to get rid of my doubt. I looked at Yukito, and then I started to walk out of the alleyway. Very slowly might I add. I got to the end of the alleyway and looked out. My father wasn’t there. I sighed, and then stepped out onto the sidewalk. When I looked around, my father still wasn’t there. A huge rush of relief came. I closed my eyes, and then I started to walk with Yukito. Or rather I started to run to him. He was way ahead of me.
“Slow down!” I yelled at him. Of course, he didn’t.
I finally caught up with him. The second I knew he could see me. I gave him the death glare. “You could have waited.” I said
“But I didn’t want to,” Yukito replied, “it’s not my fault you’re slow.”
I stuck my tongue out at Yukito. He can be a real jerk sometimes.
“So where are we going?” I asked
“You’ll see” Yukito answered
We walked straight through the bad part of town. I’ve lived here for five years now, and I have never gone down these streets. I’ve never even heard of them. Then again why would my mother tell me the how to get to the bad parts of town. One thing is for sure. I’m never going down those streets again.
There were tons of drug dealers and people selling god knows what in the alleyways. One of them actually came up to me and Yukito. We said no and the dude wouldn’t leave us alone . . . so he mysteriously flew through the air and hit a wall. No one bothered us after that.
Anyway, after about 30 minutes of walking through that horrible part town we got to a fence.
I stared at Yukito not knowing what to say. Yukito looked at me and then started to climb the fence.
“What are you doing?! You don’t know what’s behind that fence!” I yelled in a hushed tone. I didn’t want whatever or whoever was behind that fence to hear me.
“Actually I do.” Yukito answered, “Now follow me.”
I looked down at my feet and started to climb. By the time I was half way up Yukito reached the top and was already on the other side. About five minutes of climbing I reached the top, and then I looked down, big mistake. Because I couldn’t move after seeing how far up I was. Then I got so scared I let go of the fence. After that I fell down the other side of the fence. To top that all off, Yukito caught me.
Yukito was grinning from ear to ear. He was enjoying my extreme embarrassment. This is one of those moments where you’re so embarrassed you can feel you face getting redder. I’m gonna kick myself forever with this one. I would have rather taken the pain from falling. Why did he have to catch me?
Yukito put me down. I turned around and suddenly I knew where we were.
We were in my backyard. I was home.
Chapter 14 ~ My Sanctuary
I ran to the backdoor, and opened it the second I got close enough. I looked around. Then ended up spinning on the carpeted floor of my basement. I was so happy to be back here. The second Yukito got in the house I ran up the stairs, through the living room and kitchen to the huge staircase. I tried to run some more, but I fell on the slippery floors. By that time Yukito had caught up with me.
“So you like it here huh?” Yukito said grinning like he always does.
“What’s with you and that stupid grin?” I replied
Yukito grinned yet again.
I got up, and then ran up the stairs. Yukito followed me again, but by the time he was up the stairs I had already been through my room and my mother’s.
When I ran out of my mothers room I actually ran right into him. Which was a little embarrassing, but not as bad as the fence thing.
“Road runner slow down!” Yukito yelled
About 30 seconds later I shot up and headed for the stairs.
After following me for 30 minutes Yukito finally just sat down in the kitchen.
About an hour after that I was completely worn out. So I finally sat down with Yukito in the kitchen. Then we started talking.
“So why did you bring me here?” I asked him
“You’ll see” Yukito answered
“Is that like your favorite phrase or something?” I asked
“Maybe” Yukito replied
“You’ll see” I said mocking him
Yukito grinned yet again, and put his head down. After about 10 minutes of waiting I asked Yukito what we were waiting for. His response was,
“Five, four, three, two, one.”
Instantly after Yukito finished saying one, I heard a series of noises as they went through the halls.
Boom, crash, bang and footsteps.
Chapter 15 ~ An Unwanted, Unexpected, Not So Welcome, Guest
I wasn’t alone with Yukito in my house anymore. Someone just knocked down the front door.
Please let it be a burglar, I thought. I knew it wasn’t though.
I was in the kitchen with Yukito, and it sounded like whoever was in the house with us was in the living room.
I turned around just in time to see that Yukito had knocked over the sugar jar.
No! I said under my breath. I kinda moved my hands and suddenly the jar stopped. It was literally frozen in mid air. Yukito turned around and saw what I had done. He silently clapped.
Cool new power, I thought,
this one could come in handy. I waved my hand under the jar a few times just to make sure I wasn’t imagining that. It was pretty cool. After that I crouched down and reached forward. Then I grabbed the jar making sure that the lid didn’t slide and make a noise. I gently put it back on the counter.
I tiptoed to the living room to see if they were still there. I think they left the living room and went to the dining room, but to make sure I tried to use that same power I used to freeze the jar. So I waved my hand in the living room to get the same effect.
Boom!
Instead of freezing the living room I blew up one of the lamps on the ceiling!
Oh no! I have to run! I thought turning the other way to run up the staircase. Whoever was in here heard that. I know they did. They would have to be deaf to not hear it. It was so loud!
I got to the staircase and I couldn’t go any farther. The person who was in the house was standing right at the top. There was no way I was getting out of this one. If I ran to the other side, he would just follow me. If I ran back the way I came then I would eventually get stuck. It was time to fight.
Chapter 16 ~ The Final Battle
“So we meet again,” my father said looking at me straight in the eyes, “you have your little friend here too. How convenient, now I can kill both of you together! Say goodbye!”
After he finished saying that he threw an athame right at me. I screamed for a second and closed my eyes. I had to concentrate. Once I was ready, I threw my hands up to freeze the athame in its tracks.
Please work, please work, please work! I thought. It didn’t last time, and I wasn’t sure it would work now. I opened my eyes. My father and the athame were frozen. I let out a huge sigh of relief, and moved out of the way just as the athame unfroze.
“Close one” I mumbled
“Yea it was,” Yukito answered, “I thought you weren’t gonna be able to do it.”
Yukito was grinning from ear to ear again. Have I ever mentioned that I hate that grin? Well I do.
“So how do we get rid of him?” I asked Yukito
“You kill him, duh.” Yukito replied
“How do I do that?!” I yelled
“A spell or a potion. Something like that.” Yukito said like that was supposed to help me.
“Well I don’t know how to do that Yukito!” I said glaring at him.
“Ok, ok, don’t get mad. You hold him off, and I’ll figure out what to do.” Yukito said while running off.
Five seconds later my father unfroze.
“Nice parlor trick!” my father yelled at me, “mind if I steal it from you!”
“Yea actually I do!” I said while running toward the kitchen pushing everything and anything in my fathers way.
I got to the dining room entrance only to find Yukito trapped in a net.
“How did yo-”
“Watch out!” Yukito screamed at me.
He scared me so much I screamed. Then the entire room froze. I must have accidently used my powers again. I turned around. My father was about to
literally stab me in the back. If I waited one second more to freeze the room I’d be dead.
I stepped backwards until I hit the table. Yet again everything unfroze. My father fell to the floor.
So every time I touch something in a place I’ve frozen it unfreezes, Makes sense, I thought,
Oh no, my father is getting up. Instantly after that I grabbed the side of the grandfather clock and pushed it straight onto him. Then I ran for my life, literally.
I went all the way up the stairs to where this all started.
“What’s going on you stupid mirror!” I screamed at it pulling the sheet off.
“Ow! You have some really good lungs there honey.” the mirror answered
“Don’t honey me. What’s going on?!” I yelled at it again.
“Darling there is a lot you don’t know. It’d take at least five days to fill you in. Most likely ten because you’re very slow.” the mirror said as the face in it reappeared, “ Plus I thought you thought I wasn’t real.”
“I’ve been through a lot. Leave me alone.” I said glaring at it.
“Well I can’t help you. You have to do this on your own.” The mirror said as the face disappeared again.
I covered it up just before my father broke down the door.
“You can’t run from me.” My father said with an evil look in his eyes.
“Wanna bet” I said trying to use my power of telekinesis.
“Missing something?” he said moving his hand.
I flew back into the wall behind me. I screamed. Not because I was scared, but it hurt. Somehow he used my power or maybe he used my mother’s power. Either way, he had it, but how?
I got up and ran as fast as I could. He tried to catch me, but suddenly he was flung to the other side of the room. I turned around, and I could have sworn I saw my mother. I shook my head. That’s not possible.
I ran back downstairs. Through the kitchen, living room and through the dining room. I stopped when I saw Yukito.
“Can’t you get yourself down with your powers?” I asked Yukito.
“Actually no. I have the gift of sight. I can see the future and the past. That’s it.” Yukito answered, “ not too handy for getting out traps.”
“If you have the gift of sight how come you didn’t see that coming?” I said laughing
Then I heard footsteps. My father was up, and coming after me.
I ran to the basement, and left out the backdoor.
A spell, a spell! I thought,
wait a second. My mom always said that rhymes come from the heart. So maybe if I speak from my heart, it’ll work. It also has to rhyme though. Well, it’s the best I’ve got!
My father came crashing through the door.
“You can’t run now!” He screamed
I started to recite,
In this night, in this hour,
“Your trying to kill me with a spell!” My father said laughing, “it didn’t work for your pathetic mother! Why would it work for you!”
I call upon the ancient powers,
I stopped for a second not knowing what to say next.
Hear me now, hear my plight,
Here in the darkest of nights,
Kill this warlock, kill this demon,
So that I can finally have my revenge and get even!
Suddenly wind came out of nowhere. It formed a spiral right around my father. I recited the spell again.
In this night, in this hour,
I call upon the ancient powers,
Hear me now, hear my plight,
Here in the darkest of nights,
Kill the warlock, kill the demon,
So that I can have my revenge, and get even!
The wind picked up even more. The spiral around my father got even smaller. The wind was rushing around. Anything in the backyard was flying through the air. My hair was hitting my face too. I recited the spell yet again.
In this night, in this hour,
I call upon the ancient powers,
Hear me now, hear my plight,
Here in the darkest of nights,
Kill the warlock, kill the demon,
So that I can have my revenge, and get even!
My father screamed and then literally blew up. He was gone. He was finally gone.
Chapter 17 ~ A New Beginning
Well I got my revenge, and Yukito out of the net.
I was going through the stuff that was left in my room to see if I wanted any of it. There wasn’t anything too valuable there. The magic mirror was being moved to a safer place. A.k.a. where Yukito, Tama and the rest of them live. Me, well I’m going to spend sometime here. Practice using my powers by myself for a while. Especially with those two new ones. Those are definitely going to be interesting.
My father was gone. I got my revenge, and all seemed calm again. I knew that was only going to last for five minutes though.
The questions that once filled my head before were gone. Well most of them, but I can live with a few unanswered questions in my head. It’s better than the five thousand that were there before.
“Nothings going to ever be the same huh?” I said out into thin air, half smiling.
“Is that such a bad thing?” Yukito said as he walked into the room.
“Maybe, maybe not.” I answered smiling at him.
After that it all just seemed to fade away.
Alternate Ending! (Couldn’t resist)
Then I heard footsteps. My father was up, and coming after me.
I ran to the basement, and left out the backdoor.
I’ve got nothing! I’ve got nothing! I thought.
My father came crashing through the wall.
Then suddenly out of nowhere, ‘princessofheart appeared!
“Are you going to kill you dad Sakura?” ‘princessofheart asked.
“I don’t know how” I answered.
“Ok then!” ‘princessofheart said as a bat appeared in her hand, “Your going down you stupid warlock! I’m gonna beat you to a bloody pulp!”
‘princessofheart continued to beat Sakura’s father until he was a mangled bloody pulp. She beat him so well that he actually looked like he was a racoon, not a human being at one point in time. She looked down at his body and screamed,
“WHAT! Oh yea, Oh yea, four days ago was my birthday, four days ago was my birthday.”
After that she danced around in circles for five minutes and disappeared.
“Ok . . . ” I said, “What just happened here?”
