I'm watching the series for the first time, and while I knew there was always a dark undertone, I was not expecting Volume 3 to be literally the Empire Strikes Back of the franchise. I just finished Volume 3 and I'm lowkey sure I just watched a part of my soul wither away

It was honestly almost too much of a jump lol, but yes. I still haven't fully recovered from that tbh.

I just noticed that none of us have been talking about how awesome this season is!


I feel bad for Oscar. Thanks to Ozpin's curse, Oscar's soul will eventually be part of the amalgamation and he'll no longer be himself anymore. The boy we know as Oscar will essentially be dead. I'm about 40% expecting Rooster Teeth make Ruby x Oscar a bit of a thing just to tug our heartstrings when Oscar's personality starts changing and no longer feels about her that way.

Its gotten better as a show and this season does feel stronger than the others.

I'm curious to see how it ends.

Is it just me or the new season's production value just went up like 5 steps? I even thought I was watching a full-length animated feature. RT really stepped up their ante.

RWBY has come along way since season 1 and its got some substance to go along with its style. They have gotten better as the show has gone ane along so i'm curious to see how the rest goes.

I never thought I'd give an episode so many negative points. All of Qrow's bit was fantastic, starting of comedic and going right into heartbreaking, but I just have so many issues with everything else.

1. Yang mentioning she's seen the raven before.

I'm probably more bugged by this than I should be, but this kinda irked me. I know they wanted to make it clear that Raven has kept an eye on her by while in bird form, but I felt like Yang saying she's seen it before as opposed to showing she recognized it was came off like...holding the viewers hand?

2. The skepticism with magic.

This is something the series has a problem with in general. Before Ozpin's talk with Pyrrha back in Volume 3, we didn't know that magic wasn't considered real in their universe, and when you use rock magic and soul magic nearly every single episode, we have no reason not to assume magic magic isn't included. Even in the very first episode we had a magic fight with Glynda and Cinder. So when you have Weiss saying "We have rock magic, soul magic... But, I mean, there's no such thing as magic magic." It just makes the characters look like idiots.

3. The tent scene.
How to put this, Raven's lines came off...weird. I get what she was talking about, but she would talk yet not say anything. Take the Ozpin part. Raven would say "that's how he planned it" and how he "has a great and terrible secret" but doesn't actually bother to explain what Ozpin is, and this feels more like it's because the viewers already know what they want us to know for now than part of Raven's ploy to convince Yang to stay.

Secondly, while I assume the above is because Raven is trying to make Yang stay, she did a really crappy job. If she really wanted to get Yang to stay, she would have given actually useful information or explain why she couldn't truly be there for her. What I mean is that she should at least have done things that would make Yang hate her less instead of more.

Yang's "That doesn't make any sense! How could he have... No. Why would someone even do that?" line bugged me, because it makes it come off to me like the how doesn't matter. It does. It would be one thing if Yang was told that Ozpin is really really old before this, because then her dismissing the "how" would have some reason to it (because he's super old yo.) I would change the line to "That doesn't make any sense! How coul-why would someone even do that?" as it keeps both the "how" and "why" equally important.

4. The RWY reunion.

Nothing wrong with the scene itself. I just feel like this would have been better placed at the beginning of the next episode then the end of this one. Qrow being surprised at Yang feels more....ending-y.

I dunno. Maybe my opinions will change later on, but that's my first impressions on the episode.

in the next episode the big reveal between Oz and the Branwens was weak to me.

It was an ok episode tho.
