The only thing we can be sure is canon about the Lingering Sentiment fight is his words about Sora not being the one chosen for the Keyblade (which means Riku was). The rest... until further notice, it's best not to base too much on it.

in Riku's character profile in KH1 it specifically says that he was the keyblade's original chosen wielder.

And yet until the Lingering Sentiment quote, and Nomura affirming it to be about Riku (since if Sora wasn't chosen, that leaves us with Riku), there was nothing that properly supported it inside the games. Sora could've been the original Wielder, yet Riku took it from him because his Heart was stronger.
Too many people that didn't read the journal never got why people said Riku was the original wielder. At least now, with the LS scene, there's more flesh to that plot bit.

Nah. It seems really odd to change if from a rocky, barren wasteland filled with dirt and keyblades to a lush, rolling grassland. That doesn't seem very Kingdom Hearts. In CoM, the long, grassy path was more a transitional setting than anything, though it does accompany Riku's story nicely. It's difficult to say, since we don't know the significance of the crossroads in BBS.

I'd like to know where they were at all it's like a world beyond the boundaries of all the others. Something that doesn't abide by the laws of any other known place...

I think they are the same place, but I don't think it holds that meaning.
