Perhaps the reason that the keychain of WtD is a heartless symbol is to reflect the fact that Riku transformed into Xehanort's form. Why did the Soul Eater transform and when? I dunno.

But Way to Dawn IS Soul Eater. Hence by that logic they would be two different things.

when the way to the dawn thoiugh riku was capibile of being its wielder it shpwed it self
