this is what i dont understand heartless can take normal forms like we have seen example shadow neo shadow etc. right so why does ansem have to posses riku to show a form?

yeah also because he was not scared of the dark so he made the best person to be taken over, but also about heartless being able to change form why are some in the weakest form and not like the invisables

Well, think of it. Sora has 3 great qualities that make him useful for anything: Strength, Friendship, and Stupidity.
1. His strength with the Keyblade is phenomanal in which he can destroy everything.
2. If it's going to help his friends, then he's willing to do anything to help them.
3. Unless someone tells him straight up, he won't figure it out.

Yeah wat he said. Also Ansem is Xehanort's heartless and Xemnas is his nobody. Which means that Ansem can't take a Form without possesing something.

Maybe it was because he was the original keyblade bearier, so maybe Ansem thought that he could get control of him since he was gonna give in to darkness anyways
