Well, I have nothing to say right now. Just read the next chapter.
Chapter 17
Gerard ran. He ran as if his life depended on it. He needed to run. It kept him from thinking. Thinking of her. The one he loved. The one he cared for. The one who left him. Why? Why does everything good that happens to me gets taken away!My parents, my friends, Rikku... ALL GONE! Gerard thought. He ran past the Celcius. The dirt path was all that was ahead of him. His misfortunes, his bad luck, his curses, they all followed him. They traveled the same dirt road he did, and that's all. They were the only things keeping him warm.
Yuna saw him running. She felt something happened, and that something must've been bad. She followed the trail of tears left on the road. She ran farther and farther. The trail of tears stopped. It was if Gerard had dissappeared. She bent over and panted. She found herself in Mushroom Rock. She breathed heavily. What's wrong Gerard? she thought.
"It's okay Rikku. You have me," Sy said trying to cheer her up.
"No. It's not okay. I love him. And this is how I show it," Rikku said tearing up again. Sy tried to wrap his arms around Rikku, but Rikku knocked them away. "Leave me alone. You've already ruined my life enough." Sy was stunned.
"You mean," Sy worried. Rikku ran off. Sy's eyes grew cold. He felt a fury in his heart that hasn't been provoked. "It's his fault. Gerard's the one who ruined it. He left your life in pieces just now," Sy muttered to himself. Went back into his warehouse and grabbed his katana. He had pulled it out and swung it into the air as if to kill the air in front of him. His high frequency blade moved so quickly, it whistled as it cut through the air.
Why? Why did I do it? I wanted Gerard for myself. Then Sy came in. I'm so confused, Paine asked as she stared into the moon. She wanted answers. Why hadn't she felt this way about anyone before? Why did she start now? She stared down the edge of the building she was on. She looked down and felt as if she could end all the pain here and now.
Cold, lonely, and miserable, Gerard stumbled his way into a cave. Pyreflies surrounded him. They seemed to circle him. Some even entered him and shot straight through. Gerard fell and watched the pyreflies form a scene in front of him. They seemed to flicker through his memories.
"Mom, no!" A figure of a young boy yelled. He had short hair. Just a bit longer than shaved hair. He stared up at the figure of a sandworm.
"Get away Gerard! We'll protect you," said the figure of a woman. She had long black hair. You could practically see Gerard in her eyes. Gerard looked at the figures and just stared.
"Leave! Now!" A figure of a man yelled. He had the same build as Gerard. He was tall and had broad shoulders. A bit skinny, but he had some muscle. He had long black hair, just like Gerard did now. Gerard watched as the figure of the sandworm attacked his mother. She let out a terrible scream that chilled his heart. His father threw the hilt of his blade to the young boy. The sandworm attacked the father and he was gone. The young boy's eyes grew. He stood frozen. He looked at the hilt and the sword's blade appeared. The same sword Gerard fought with to this day. The young boy ran towards the sandworm and shoved it into the inside of the sandworm. The entrails spilled out and Gerard ran. The sandworm dissapated into pyreflies, along with his parents.
Gerard had been tormented enough. He just watched his parents die all over again. He fell to his knees and cried. No! They're tormenting me! Why? What did I do, Gerard thought. The pyreflies danced again. They flew around in circles again. They formed more images.
"It's now or never Gerard" A figure of a young adult spoke. He was tall, slender, and carrying a gun. His voice was deep and filled with seriousness. This was Operation Mi'ihen all over again.
"Rory! We're going to die!" the other figure yelled. It was Gerard again. He was older. His voice deepened and he had his hair longer. He carried a gun as well. On the battlefield, there was beams flying through the air, whizzing past their heads. It was too scary to imagine even standing there, let alone trying to attack Sin.
"If we die, we die like heroes," Rory yelled back. He started running with Gerard trying to stop him. It was too late. Sin burned a hole right through him. He fell back and a loud thud sounded. Gerard ran out to him. He leaned over the body and cried. Rory had been killed. His only friend.
"Rory was a noble man. He fought to the death. I could've stopped him. THIS IS MY FAULT!" Gerard screamed as the pyreflies stopped. They seemed to be projecting his darkest memories. Each dance tormented him. His mind had been rotted to the core. He couldn't stand to watch anymore. But the Pyreflies danced one last time.
Yuna picked up the trail. She fell down into the caverns and slowly navigated through the fog. It was dark, but she could see. The trail of tears stopped once more in front of an entrance to the cave. Her eyes widened. The Den Of Woe, she thought to herself. She braced herself and went in. She went deeper and deeper into the cave. She caught a glimpse of a pyrefly and followed it to a heard of pyreflies dancing around Gerard.
The pyreflies created one more image. This time it was a door. The same door Gerard knocked down, just to see his love with someone else. He saw himself. His image knocking down the door. He looked at the pyreflies. Rikku kissed Sy. Gerard tried to look away. The pyreflies dissapated as Gerard fell on the ground. He grew weak. His body could no longer support him.
"Gerard!" Yuna yelled as she ran over to him.
"Yuna," Gerard whispered. He put his hand on her face gently to wipe a tear off.
"It was a mistake! Rikku loves you, I know she does!" Yuna said crying.
"Tell her," Gerard was growing weak. The pyreflies took a lot out of him. His energy had been drained by the pyreflies projecting his memories. "I still...love..." Gerard said. He stopped talking. Yuna checked for a pulse, and it was still there. He was alive. Just by a bit.
