Question about the heartless...

Ok, first of all I apologize if this has been answered before, but I was replaying the series and something came up. In the first one, Leon calls them "those without hearts" yet in Kingdom Hearts 2, Saix says something along the lines of...."Heartless, mindlessly collecting hearts. The rage of the keyblade releases those hearts. They gather in darkness, masterless and free, until they weave together to make Kingdom Hearts" and so on.
My question is, so which is is? Do the Heartless have hearts?

He means the hearts the heartless collected while attacking people. Heartless technically have hearts but they don't belong to them, only the people which they stole from. I'm pretty sire Leon meant they don't have hearts of their own.

Leon in KH1 was referring to the people of Heartless, rather than the Heartless themselves.

Heartless ARE the hearts, but consumed and given physical form by the darkness. So technically they don't have hearts.

Even technically they do XD; it's just that they're maimed Hearts, unable to do anything a Heart should do, which is to feel and remember. Arguably why Namine and Roxas seemed so human-like, as neither Sora nor Kairi were Heartless. Then their "emotions" can be traced back to Sora and maybe Kairi (since Namine basically came from Sora and also links more to him).

Uh... Sora WAS a heartless and Kairi can't be a heartless because she has no darkness being a PoH.

Sora was purified. The Darkness was pushed back and he regained his sense of self. In that aspect, he wasn't a Heartless as nothing blocked his connection to Roxas. As said - Roxas "felt" Sora.

I think that heartless have hearts, but they loose everything a heart should be able to do. They can't feel emotion or remember. They are completly corrupted by darkness in their hearts.

In the first game when kairi's heart is in sora why didnt the body left behind become a nobody instead it was just an empty shell?
