There's a problem with theories about KH3D taking place in dreams because in an interview Nomura mentioned there would be new worlds in the game. I don't think you can travel to new worlds while in a dream.

Well there are two protagonists, maybe one is in a dream and one is awake going to the new worlds...
what do we really know about where riku went
who's to say riku didn't go to other worlds that we havent been to?

Theres actually no problem with this as the theories say Sora has Rikus memories and theres no one saying that Riku just went to the worlds Sora did. The only ones we know he went to are HB, Agrabah, Neverland, Monstro and Traverse Town. I would expect to see those and others.
Huh, who knows. With Inception out, it seems you can go anywhere in your dreams. Who knows if Nomura will think like that.

since that's only one person's idea of what's possible with dreams, nothing's really changed about what's been available to others.

I think the real question is, if 3D isn't dealing with dreams or memories or what have you, why are there so many suggestions that we shouldn't believe everything that we see?
Personally, I'm wary of the theory that 3D takes place while Sora's in the pod; I think it'd make more sense if it involved Sora intentionally searching for the data that DiZ left inside of his heart, and taking care of the giant mess that had been left by all of the memory rewrites and alter-ego splitting that happened to him at the same time.
At this point, Sora's got his own pre-KH, KH, and KH2 memories that are all set. He's also got the CoM memories, which were supposedly unlocked near the end of KH2. He might still have some of the Namine-created links still floating around, since she said she can't destroy memories. He's got all of Roxas and Xion's memories floating around in there as well, which might well be compromised by the fact that Roxas forgot about Xion. And then, there's the strong possibility that Sora's got some of Riku's memories too, because Xion sure seemed to have them in that Snarl of Memories scene, and, of course, Ansem's data itself.
With all of that going on, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit more difficult for Sora to find what he was looking for than he'd think - and, he might be able to save a couple of those in pain while he's at it - namely, Roxas and Xion, from their fragmented state.

Actually Ikkin, I think it would be faster to list the people who's memories aren't inside of Sora. That kid...
So yeah, either Sora could visit worlds from other people's memories, or the data DiZ put inside him could end up being partially data on different worlds. Maybe it's Diz's last attempt to undo all the crap he did to Roxas. It wouldn't be the first time we've gone to data worlds. Both KH2 and coded have them. And CoM has memory worlds, so it's not like this is some crazy new idea.
But I still think that the Chamber of Waking has some special ability involving memories (hence why Xemnas talks to Aqua's armor in it), and that Sora might be using that to explore the worlds inside his memories. Because 3D is supposed to take place at the same time as the current games (I believe he means post-KH2, like coded), I'm pretty sure it's not Sora in the pod before KH2. Though Sora could go back and use the pod again. But Namine is gone, so I don't think the pod's really going to do much; the games seemed to imply that Namine did most of the work on Sora, not the pod.

This game is going to be crazy, do you think it's going to be completely different than every other KH title? Because that's what Nomura seems to be implying. I agree with the above statements, and hopefully Sora can at least save roxas and xion (maybe axel) because I have a feeling rescuing TAV are going to be saved for the next game and KH3.
2 hasn't been done either; Mickey's absence was meant to be how Mickey found the inverse kingdom key in the realm of darkness and all the shenanigans he got up to while we looked for him in Kh1 (iirc? tell me if I'm wrong here) and Coded doesn't do that; Coded bridges BBS and ~next KH game~
