Exactly. I'm trying to figure out what they wanted from this?
"This is exactly what's wrong with anime!!!!" .... How? It's a bittersweet story of a girl, her father, and the world ending. Beautiful animation, nice scenery, good tunes (which of course, depends on taste). Maybe it's not the best thing since sliced bread, but I haven't seen anyone overhyping it to that extent either. People just say go watch it and it's really good and pretty (and sad, I haven't teared up over something anime related in years, family feels man)
I think those people are just trying to be edgy just to be different. Just say you didn't like it or you don't like the song. There's no need to go into such a deep negative critique over a music video passion project. There's no need to claim that people that love it shouldn't because it's just overrated. Goodness.
That "they used a stereotypical cute anime girl to make you feel for her" argument is also just stupid. If it were a little boy and his mother, or even just regular uncute adults suffering through a similar crisis, I would still feel these emotions and for the characters. SOMA the game had a very similar premise and while the game itself isn't the best, I still feel plenty of emotion for the characters and what they had to suffer through. Heck, the game and this video could be taking place in the same world technically. Maybe there are survivors on Earth after all... deep under water...
The dad is pretty hot though, just saying. There's just something about good dads
