Recently I did some deep cleaning, and I found yet another creative writing book. This one actually had some excersizes I liked, and I thought I should get out of my comfort zone and write a few poems!

Poetry is......
Poetry is the golden blue sky that ripples softly.
Poetry is the glowing earthshine of Friday before summer starts.
Poetry is the bright North Star, shinig through the midnight lightning.
Poetry is the past, like a hidden nova, crawling from the depth of worry.
Poetry is my heart, staggering from the line of fire from people's judgement.
Poetry is my imagination, soaring from the ruins and hardship to begin anew.

If a Red sun sets
Whilst the lingering twilight
Holds our regrets

To share its sweet loot

If the Yellow corn grows
With the aid of the dead
In neat, lined rows

If the Green grass flows
Like a soft, sage ocean
As the wild wind blows

Of the coming of storms
And much fiercer things

With the sparks of shooting stars

Poetry is color!
Lights, flowers, fruits, sound!
Poetry fills this Earth

Sitting in front of the fire.
Climbing trees.
Sleeping on the floor in sunshine.
Holding a snake's skin in my hands.
Reliving old memories just for the laughs.
Lightning storms.
Sunday mornings.
Mint chocolate melting in my mouth.
My brother's birthday.
Whe the clouds part, and I can see stars.
Reading a book in the dark.
Getting the newspaper when I get home.
Seeing olf riendss.

Snowflakes adrift falling into my hair
A warm lap at home with my cat sitting there
A movie with friends, loud as can be
Soft, somber songs about life lived happily
The feel of a book's pages brushing my skin
The *tap, tap* of rain on my dark roof of tin
Screaming on coasters and haunted hay rides
Staring at the sunset and the receding ocean tides
The wind in my face as I take to the sky
That "butterfly" feeling as I try to fly
Playing video games till my butt goes numb
Joking with pals and just being dumb
And then there's fantasy, wild and untamed
While finally my music box, with its melody chained

Try a haiku, they're easy! Just 5,7,5 or 5,7,6 syllables. The middle part is supposed to be kinda like an interruption. Try it!

Those were great, you two! Okay, next: Write a tonka about something from Kingdom Hearts.

The formula for a tonka is like this:
The name of your subject.
Three words to describe your subject.
What the subject does.
Where it is i time and space.

Ok, I looked up tanka. Apparently it is an old (around 1200 years) form of Japanese poetry called "Waka." Similar to a haiku, the stanzas are written as: 5,7,5,7,7. It's like an extended version of haikus.

I'll do your version first, Aiko.

The shadowy Heartless
Dark, restless, devoid
The theft of a treasure
Here, there, in the night
No life, no love, no heart
