Probably been asked a million times before but exactly why did the Dusk steal all those photographs right at the beginning of the game?

the dusks were after Roxas but as DiZ said it is all data to them

Fraidy's got it. To the dusks, the photos were the same as Roxas himself; they couldn't tell the difference.

This is kind of coincidental considering I just watched the cut-scene in which DiZ says that they can't tell the difference between the photos and Roxas. Ugh.

So, basically, the Dusks were set on Roxas by the Organization to bring him back?

And the novels reveal that when the Organization was infiltrating the data, they were unsure if they could bring someone back. They were using the Dusks to test the water, and then tasked Axel with returning Roxas since he was most connected to Roxas' memories.
