Chapter 1: What's Happening?
Everything has been different since Samantha, Lily, and I have started the new year. I've been busy with soccer and hardly have the time to even go one date with Lily, Lily has been drowning herself in her books and cheerleading, even Samantha has been to a bunch of night clubs while I'm a soccer practice. School and our lives have been tearing us apart since summer. What worries me is that Lily has been acting funny since I got on the soccer team when she got back from Scotland. She's been bring an umbrella to school, wearing long sleeves and a jacket with it (knowing she hates sweating, especially in the summer), wearing jeans constantly with black boots, sunglasses, and a scarf around her and once she gets inside a building, she takes all those layers of clothes off her, that way I can actually see some skin from her.
The season is autumn and the weather has gotten cooler, so Lily will survive this season. I don't know what's going on with Lily and it's scaring me. Things have gotten weirder this year for sure. About twenty students have been sent to the hospital and all of them seem to be healthy, all the doctor could find was a bite mark on either the neck or wrist and the bites are very similar to vampire bite marks, and theres a constant growth rate of bats in the neighborhood. I believe in vampires, but my town is a safe place, and no one knows if there are any vampires that exist even today. Probably the bite marks on those students were from the bats that are flying around this town.
I live in Seattle and every now and then I hear old folks say that this a way of the witches having their revenge, by asking their friends the vampires from Hell to kill us for killing them. Life it weird now and it has gotten darker for sure. “It's a curse I tell ya,” Samantha said to me with a grim look on her face as she rests her face on her hand. “You actually believe the old folks that there's a curse in Seattle?” I asked Samantha. “Of course I do, I mean, nothing like this has ever happened in our lifetime,” Samantha replied to me. “Guys, it's probably just a coincidence since Halloween is on it's way and that there's gonna be a full moon on that day,” Lily said before she took a sip of her double tomato juice drink.
“Only you would say something like that Ms. Holiday Lunar Girl,” Samantha teased. “Hey, I like being 'Ms. Holiday Lunar Girl,' and you know it,” Lily said. “I know that, that's why you're still our friend....because you're so weird,” Samantha teased while giving Lily a soft hug. “Oh, I'm weird? What about you reading everyone's energy-wave?” Lily said looking a little annoyed. “Look who's talking 'Ms. I'm-wearing-everything-all-over-my-skin-to-protect-myself-from-the-sun-because-I'm-allergic-to-the-evil-sun,'” Samantha said. “Wow that's a long name you have Lily,” I laughed. “Shut up, Tom,” Lily said to me and pushed me off the bench. And clumsy as I am, I didn't fall off the bench gracefully.
The class bell rang, so Samantha, Lily, and I rushed to get the best seats to our next class in the back row. Lily and I ran to P.E. So we could avoid traffic on our way to the locker rooms. “See you in the gym, Love,” Lily shouted out through her scarf that was over her mouth. “Ok, I'll see you inside,” I replied to Lily. I thought everything was weird as it is, with Lily suddenly being allergic to the sun just after summer, and seeing that she looks fine when she's inside. I changed into my gym clothes and ran to the doors before everyone got to them. I was one of the first boys to get inside the gym and saw that Lily was the first girl to be there too, and seeing that she was wearing her gym uniform. “You have gotten faster changing into your gym clothes lately,” I said to her with a little smile. “You think so?” Lily asked me.
“Yea, you know......gym was never my favorite subject because people treated me badly. But seeing that you're in gym this year, it became my favorite subject,” I said sweetly to her. “It's also because I can see your skin without you covering your entire body,” I said to her as I softly touched her cheek. Lily giggled when I told her that and she said “Well, I'm sorry that I suddenly became allergic to the sun and that I'm so protective of my skin. I do miss feeling your hand on my cheek like this. And sooner or later, I'm gonna be as white as Michael Jackson, so you're gonna have an extremely pale white half Hawaiian girlfriend.” “I'm still gonna love you either way,” I said as I slowly leaned in closer to her face and kissed her softly on the lips.
A whistle rang out that echoed inside the gym and interrupted our kiss. We got into our lines and stretched out, since I was taller than Lily, I was behind her. We did 150 jumping jacks, 100 sit-ups, 50 leg-lifts, and 200 push-ups all period.....which really sucked. Everyone sorely walked to their locker rooms and slowly changed into their normal clothes. I was the first to change out of the gym uniform and walked outside to see that it was raining. “What the heck? It was just sunny 2 hours ago,” I said. “Who cares? I can actually show some bare skin with the sun hidden in the clouds,” Lily's voice rang out.
I looked on my left and saw Lily wearing her black hat, black tank top, letterman's' jacket, jeans, and her black boots with the belts on it. She turns her head to look at me and gave me a big smile. “I guess you can feel my skin outside this time without all my garbage covering me up,” Lily grinned. I threw myself at her and hugged her tightly. I kissed her on the head and said “Yea, I can see your face now.” She looked up to me and smiled, “Yea, and I can see your eyes clearly.”
The bell rings and everyone ran to their car as fast as they could. The girls began screaming for their lives while they cover their hair with their books. Lily and I laugh at them as they screamed on their way to their cars. “It's so entertaining to watch them squirm in the rain,” Lily said as she laughed. “I know,” I laughed as I couldn't breathe. We got to the car and turned the heater on. I looked at Lily and asked her, “Are you ok? Do you want to come over to my place to dry off?” “No, it's ok. I like the feeling of the rain pouring on me,” Lily said with a smile. I kept staring at her and gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, “You're so cute.”
We drove our way to Lily's house as we complained of how mean and evil our P.E. teacher was and how weird things have been going on since the beginning of this year. “So what are you going to be for Halloween tomorrow?” I asked Lily. “Me? Come on Tom, we're going to that Halloween party, the theme is vampires. So we have to dress up like vampires or we'll be egged,” Lily said. I parked at her driveway once we got to her house. We stared at each other in the eyes for a long time and gave each other a long kiss goodbye.
She opened the door, walked out of the car, and walked to her front door gate. I start up the car and began driving in reverse. As I drove in reverse, I tried to reach for my garage door opener, but my index finger ran into a safety pin and stabbed my finger. I parked next to the sidewalk about a few houses away from Lily's house and began licking the blood off my finger. I then see a person walking to my direction and stood next to my window. “Your blood smells so good,” the man said to me. He then punched my window and shattered the glass. The man grabbed me by my collar and threw me out of the car and saw myself flying in the air.
I landed on my back in a bush of thorned roses. “Oh yesss.....the more the blood, the tastier it'll be,” the loony man said as he drooled showing sharp fangs. “Are you....a vampire?” I asked in fear. “I surely am and I am oh....so...real,” he said in a frightening tone. He widely opened his mouth showing all his sharp teeth and flew to me with great speed. I closed my eyes and shielded myself with my arm. When I was ready for him to bite me, I didn't feel anything, I just felt a quick wind blow in my face. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Lily in front of me choking the mad vampire with one hand. “Never go near Tom again, or I will lock you in a tiny little room outside in the blazing sun where there is no shade to protect you,” Lily said in a frightening tone. He just stared at her with great fear in his eyes, “You....you're not human,” the vampire said to Lily. “Go away,” she said coldly, she lets go of him and I watched him run away.
“What does he mean?” I asked her. “What does he mean that you're not human?” I asked Lily. Lily flipped her hair and looked at me with a smile. “He's just a mad vampire, he probably thinks people as fast as me aren't human, especially if a vampire hunter is that fast. And you should know that vampires hunters can match a vampire's speed,” Lily said to me. “Yea, but....where the heck did you come from? I didn't even see you come? And- VAMPIRE HUNTER!!? You're a vampire hunter!?” I screamed in shock and excitement. “Yep, I'm a vampire hunter,” Lily said with a smile. “And that vampire guy was flying at me with such awesome speed that no human can compete with that, no wonder you were fast enough to catch him, you're a vampire hunter,” I said with enthusiasm.
Lily laughs seeing that I was scared a minute ago and now enthusiastic talking about vampires. “You should get some rest, tomorrow's Halloween. And since the school's Halloween party theme is a vampire, the school needs vampire fans, aka 'us', to decorate the gym, so get up bright and early, ok?” Lily said with a bright smile. I smiled back and got up off the thorned bushes. “Oh, and be sure to clean that wound of your's. Now that we know that vampires still exist, we should be clean as possible tomorrow,” Lily said to me.
