For a series that likes to insist that pairings super platonic they sure do give lots of chemistry to Soriku and the classic fight of the married couple Xehaqus.

Imagine seeing Urd be jealous of Xehaqus' "special kind of friendship" and think their relationship is super normal platonic besties

Even THE OTHER CHARACTERS find it strange

They are canonically the "frequently bought together do not separate" meme
Hahaha for real
Hey everyone! I’m Kai and I mostly ship

Sora/Riku
Xehanort/Eraqus
Lea/Isa
Roxas/Xion

That’s really it, sorry if I interrupted an on going conversation or anything lol
Hi Kai! Welcome to the shipping thread (and KHI!)

Good ships! Feel free to stop in and share stuff you see about your ships 🥳

I just realised that Ephemer x Player just got torpedoed to bits the moment the DR ending came out. You obviously wouldn't be waiting for a dead guy/gal for over four generations when you have a great great grandkid by that point.

Looks like the player's only shot at romance is Strelitzia. but it's been like, over 400+ years already, maybe more.

Nonsense, my player only has eyes for Jetpack Ninja Frog Person-of-unstated-gender:

The only pair I ship is Sora and Riku. It's not even about shipping, though I find them adorable. For me, their relationship is so interwoven into the narrative, that at this point I can't separate the two. It's why I have little doubt that they are intended endgame.

Beyond that, I think Lea/Isa, and Roxas/Xion are cute. Namine and RR is also interesting. I wish we could have seen more between them. I think that it would be poetic if they were able to form some genuine, happy, memories, together, that were based on mutual affection rather than a scheme.

I honestly don't think KH HAS a planned endgame. Be it plot-wise or ship-wise.

I don't think Nomura thinks that far ahead. Honestly there's a huge chance KH will never see an ending by him because he'll try to keep going until he dies.

I think he must have some kind of an ending planned. When you create stories, most of the time you have at least a general idea of how it'll end. I think there was an interview question about an end but I might be misrembering.

He does however plan things at least one game ahead. So while he was making KH1, he was planning out CoM. Obviously not everything was planned 100% from the beginning and things change during development. I think it'll end when he's close enough to end it, story wise. If I had to guess, I'd say 10-15 years more, at most. I don't see him not ending it before he retires, and as much as I love the series, I don't want to be ancient waiting for a conclusion lol

You ship the same things I do, other than Roxas/Xion. I'm more into Roxas/Namine or Hayner/Roxas as far as Roxas goes.

Since I have ships for all of the other characters in RAXI+Namine aside from Xion, I always tend to think of Xion being paired off with Pence myself. I know not all characters need to be in a ship in a fic, but for some reason it feels incomplete to me somehow otherwise?

Even if Nomura has an ending planned there's no way that Square Enix and Disney would allow one of their most profitable game franchises to end just because Nomura retires. Either someone new will take the reigns or the series will end because it's stopped selling and he'll be lucky if he gets enough of a heads-up to try to tie-up the biggest loose ends

But the thing is, not every series is created with an endgame in mind. Some characters and stories are designed to have adventures for as long as the creator has ideas. And then when the creator dies their estate commissions continuation novels because the character still has legs. A lot of TV shows are like this too - you never know if you'll be renewed or not so it's difficult to know if you should be writing a season finale or a series finale.

Regardless if there is a "planned" ending or not as long as I play the games I will continue to ship Sora and Riku because Kairi has the personality of cardboard </3
So does Riku though. He lost absolutely every ounce of his personality alongside his darkness powers. I miss KH1/CoM Riku SO much, from KH2 on foi só ladeira abaixo

Sora/Roxas >>>>>

Riku's personality in KH2 is fine so long as you treat it as the culmination of his character development. He's learned from his mistakes and outgrown his childish rivalry with Sora, so now he's mature. The problem is that his story didn't end with the conclusion of his development, he's apparently the permanent deuteragonist. So we've ended up with a character who's outgrown his spark and is now just the cool mature Keyblade Master.

But to be fair, it's compounded with another problem: character writing for this series in general has gone down the drain. Pretty much every character is flatter than they were originally and/or hasn't lived up to their potential. Don't even get me started on Axel. Sure, he may be more developed now, but can you imagine KH3!Axel completely stealing the show like CoM!Axel did? Because I can't.

Easy fix. Bring back some of his insecurities. He’s had a year to be sad and depressed about Sora. His emotional state shouldn’t be great, which means Riku should be susceptible to more melancholic moods, so hopefully this can be a gateway to some new growth. Maybe learning to be more genuinely open to Sora. He’s come a long way, but for Riku to wait until he’s about to sacrifice himself to essentially tell Sora he is Riku’s strength and Sora not realizing that until they have all died (then still doesn’t seem to believe it) means they still have a long way to learning how to speak to each other as equals.

Also I feel like Riku needs some anger injected back into his character. He needs to be angry at Sora—happy and relieved, too, but the problem with Sora continuing to sacrifice himself is that nobody tells Sora to stop it and that he doesn’t need to shoulder these burdens alone.

Will Nomura do any of this? Idk. Hopefully he isn’t so foolish to keep Riku stagnant.
