There were normal novels of all three games - 2 for KH1, 3 for CoM (2 for Sora; 1 Riku), and 4 for KH2, along with 2 Short Story novels covering different characters/worlds. Tokyopop was supposed to release the KH1 novels August of '07; as you can see, this never happened. It's said that Disney Press picked up the publishing rights, but nothing new has been said about a release date.
I doubt we'll get them anytime soon, to be honest. Shame, with the insight the KH2 series gives into unseen events in the game...

i'll let you know when i find out
Wasn't it like the novel novels were never released outside of Japan because of poor sales or something? and the graffic novels are still in the make as far as i know. Well, theyve stopped making them right now, but i think they have plans to release volume 3 of KH2. sometime.

^Volume 3 won't be coming out to NA for a longgg time[though 3 and 4 is out in Japan] because Tokyopop is facing financial crisis, so they're still deciding whenever to release here or not.

^ Yeah

The date for the 3rd volume to come out, according to the Borders website, keeps changing while Tokyopop sorts through its issues. Last time I checked it said May 30 of this year, but I wouldn't fully believe that. We'll either have to wait and see what happens or just move on to get occupied on something else.

I'm pretty sure the novels and the graphic novels are the same thing. Either way, neither went on sale since Tokyopop handed them over to Disney Press and they've been hoarding them in some back room somewhere, so I wouldn't contribute poor sales to them not being released if they're not out yet.

no, the graphic novels and the actual novels are two different things. the graphic novels tell the story through manga format, but the whole story is lessened to more of a comedy then an action genre adventure. meanwhile, the novels are the exact same thing as the games (including the final mix scenes) but with extra scenes, such as chapters about the "lifes" of the different organization members (and, i would imagine, riku's quest to find kairi in the first game). so the novels are canon while the manga are just for fun.

that's true. although, i thought that the first two were already out? if so, i might buy them, even if they aren't going to be that exciting as the later issues. i just hope that tokyopop, or whoever is distributing them, makes up there minds soon. i'm looking forward to reading them.

If you mean the KH2 manga, then yes, the first two volumes have been released in NA. Japan is currently up to volume 4 in tankoubon format, with the series being serialized in monthly(?) releases of the Shonen Gangan magazine. I've heard they've already done the 'Steamboat Willy' world, so it shouldn't be very long before it is completed (Disney worlds have their multiple visits combined, I believe).
You can find scans of Japanese chapters from volumes 3+ on LiveJournal.

No; as I posted before, Tokyopop was supposed to release them August of '07. They were pushed back about a year, then never released/given to DP.
They have manga scans, but they also have some novel translations. I can provide links if you like. The problem is, some of them (including the really good ones) have been removed, I suppose because of copyright issues. There is someone who is working on translating the KH2 novels, but you have to join the site/community to see them (something I have yet to do). Some excerpts are still free for non-members to look at.

Edit:
Here's some links to posts of various translations. Bear in mind, some translations have since been removed:

I bought the novels a while back in hopes of translating, but never got them (lost in mail; they didn't give tracking info). I'm still trying to get my hands on them, so maybe I can provide something soon as well.

Thanks muchly Boukyaku, those translations are a pain to track down.

And yeah, I would love for the novels to be translated and released in English, but there's not way that will ever happen.

Does anyone know if the novels considered canon? Or are they separate like the manga?

No problem. =)

I think they're canon/semi-canon. They give insight on things that weren't shown in the games (Org. members, Riku/Namine/Axel, etc.); however some things clash with 'game canon'.
The main example of this I can think of is the battle between Riku/'Rikunort' and Saix about halfway through. In the game, it's implied that Saix must have thought Riku was killed by Roxas, both by his "Do you want to end up like Riku?" and "Didn't Roxas take care of you?" However, in the novels it seems as though he knew Riku was alive. It's something that can be overlooked, but it's there.
But for things not explained in the games, I believe them to be canon. It helps you understand why certain things happened, if you really think about them.
