if you guilt a useless medal just for Nova do you need to keep it afterwards or you can discard it and keep your Nova?

You can discard it and keep your Nova level, as it'll have been recorded and saved in your medal album.

I'd make sure that it's at max guilt (+5 Nova level) before discarding.
