Somehow I was searching the net, and typed in Nomura and just started reading about him.
So apparently people were upset with how his characters had lots of belts/zippers/buckles ish like that and his males being adrogynis(Don't fell like looking for the actual spelling) and females being to revealing. That's why his design for Lightning was what is was. (which was rather bland in my opinion)

I never knew people were so critical about that. I always thought it was pretty beast. Actual his style is my favorite. Did anyone here dislike his style?

He made Lightning the way she was to reduce her sex appeal, so people would take her more seriously. I actually like that about her.

People criticise him for his over use of these things more than the actual traits themselves.

And yet she still remains incredibly sexy. Nomura struck a good balance with Lightning: I take her seriously as a character, and also find her attractive.

I like androgynous in the male characters. It gives a cool vibe to them, in that they don't look like the western perception of a tough guy hero(Big buff guy, who just likes to shoot all his problems to death)

When I think of bad ass protagonist, I think thin pretty dude with a dozen belts!

Oh yeah, that goes without saying lol

I think his designs are ok. The asymmetrical clothing doesn't bother me, but there are a few designs that are just terrible and should be forgotten. (Kingdom Hearts Cloud and Setzer, ugh.) However I feel he did a great job combining Yoshitaka Amano's designs with his own for Dissidia, giving the characters a clean look while keeping the characters EXTREMELY faithful to Amano's whimsical watercolor feel. I was especially happy with him for incorporating Amano's designs for characters Nomura drew. (This is why Squall has that rag thing on his side and why Sephiroth has the angel wing in his coat, etc. They're from rare production and promotional artworks.) Every costume and alternate costume is from a piece of artwork for the game, which is great for uber-fans like me. :3

I think his best work was done in Final Fantasy X (and maybe VIII), it was very creative and unique. Well, at least for me it was anyways XD

I'm probably going to get destroyed for saying this but, I don't really like the KH art style. Even though it is even more abstract than X's, I just really can't stand the body proportions of the characters. Especially the shoes...

I actually thought X-2's characters looked better! Then again, it may just be those plunging necklines, short skirts and skimpy shorts that have got me thinking that...

His art style is fine. I would probably buy a comic from him if he did one. Although I enjoy a varied range of art styles in my comics and I don't think Nomura's is anywhere near the best.

But as a concept artist and character designer, he tends to re-use things. And that sort of repetition can be irksome.

are you kidding me? There are belts and zippers on plenty of his characters costumes that have no business being were they are...

As far as that, his artwork prior to X 0r X-2 have been really good. His artwork after that point have been hit or miss

It's called a style for a reason. All styles are supposed to be unique and have something that makes you recognize their work. I guess you could say in Nomuras case it is belts and zippers.

So true! It must be hell for KH Squall, everytime he goes to the bathroom he has to unbuckle 30 belts.

Nomura has a certain style in the way he draws
but what you mentioned.....lol, that's not a style.....but okay
No, I would think its a style. Since it is constantly appearing in his artwork. But what would you call it then?

a fetish

But seriously though Leon looks a little ridiculous with belts, I really like Nomura's style, except for the big feet. It's not that much of a problem, but KH1 Sora...

Not everybody's style is for everyone. You'll find as many people who appreciate what he does as you will who don't. It's totally preferential, as everything, but especially futile to argue when it comes to "art," and even moreso when it concerns someone as distinct as Nomura.

Personally, I like the elaborate, often impractical designs, but this is something I appreciate in general. I also can't deny that he's probably been one of my biggest artistic influences, consciously or otherwise. I definitely agree with Stooge's latter statement, however, about redundancy, even if it might be understandable, given the absurd amount of character design he does. As an "artist," myself, I know it can be hard not to repeat yourself, especially when you mean for the characters to be generally appealing. This can get out of hand when you have a limited aesthetic to begin with (which seems to be Nomura's case).

And for the record: The disproportionately large feet you see so often in Kingdom Hearts is a design element meant specifically to homage Disney. This isn't something he normally employs otherwise.

His designs are usually okay for me. I'm not super into it, but his TWEWY art is easily in my top three of his.
