From Wikipedia: "Nioh (Japanese: 仁王 Hepburn: Niō?, lit. "benevolent king") is an upcoming historical fantasy action role-playing video game developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo for the PlayStation 4. The game follows the story of a fictionalized William Adams, a white-haired English samurai (Irish in the game) during the dawn of Edo period Japan in 1600.
Fictionalized versions of other real-life historical figures also appear in the game, including Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hattori Hanzō, Tachibana Muneshige, Tachibana Ginchiyo, Kuroda Nagamasa and Kuroda Yoshitaka. William arrives in Japan during the Warring States Era, surviving not only against bandits and ruthless ronin, but against supernatural threats such as yokai and oni."

Re: NIOH - PlayStation 4 exclusive

Glad you made a thread on this. The game isn't perfect, but it's the best Dark Souls clone out there form what I played of the alpha and beta. I absolutely love the setting.

Re: NIOH - PlayStation 4 exclusive

I know a lot of people are calling it a Dark Souls clone, but it feels more like a spiritual successor to Onimusha to me.

Really solid analysis video comparing and contrasting the two, even briefly throwing in a couple more games in similarity.

English version of the TGS trailer last week. Guess a multi-dub is confirmed. That's exciting to see, not sure if I ever recall a game doing that that I can think of.

This game has come to my attention now that I'm currently playing Bloodborne. It seems the Soulsborne fan base (which I don't know well) calls it a clone, but holds hope for the game. I haven't really seen anything from Team Ninja that is close to this, possibly Ninja Gaiden.

Anywho, a trail is available this weekend for those interested. It runs from January 21 - 22. Apparently, an "award" is given to those that finish.

Here's the full details: Nioh: Last Chance Trial Begins January 21 – PlayStation.Blog

I've been playing the trial and I can say it's a lot of fun. If you like the Soulsborne series, then I think you would enjoy this unless you're burnt out.

The game's controls does take some time getting used to as they are quite different. I really like the skills and ninjitsu you learn in the game as you progress. They unlock cool attacks you can preform on enemies. The shrines serve as way points and seem to more available while playing. The difficulty is very hard regardless of the variety of long/short ranged weapons but it's refreshing and rewarding. It's not a game that can be played casually. 60FPS is really nice to have in this game. The down-scaled graphics are worth the better framerate in my opinion. Also, no health regeneration is sort of a drag, but I guess I'm just spoiled in Bloodborne.

For a Team Ninja game, it's top notch. I'd say the game is worth it. It's unfortunate my wallet has priorities.
