Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima steps down; Shuntaro Furukawa to step up. This is to be effective this upcoming June 28th. Kimishima took on the reins of Nintendo for an always temporary period after former president Satoru Iwata passed away (RIP). Looks like they finally found the permanent replacement: Furukawa. These are Shuntaro's credentials:
Director, Managing Executive Officer General Manager, Corporate Planning Department Supervisor of Corporate Analysis & Administration Division In charge of Global Marketing Department
And these are some impressions I got in a comments section:
"From what I've gathered, Furukawa is/was a gamer, speaks English fluently, is credited for contributing to making the Switch a big hit, ran The Pokemon Company since 2012, and had international experience after spending 10 years at the German headquarters."
"This is a quote from Atul Goyal, an analyst at Jefferies Group who has met Furukawa several times:
"Furukawa comes across as thoughtful, very knowledgeable and quite well informed. He is fluent in English. He may be the perfect person to fill the communication gap that exists between Nintendo and investors."
As for the new president, Furukawa had this statement at the conference:
"We will develop the company to its fullest. I will balance Nintendo’s traditions: originality and flexibility.
I grew up playing the Famicom and come from that generation. Now as a member of management with Super Mario’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto, I have a lot of respect for him. On the other hand, with this new job that can’t just be it, so I expect to say what needs to be said to run the company."
I guess that should give you an idea of him."
Thanks to Siliconera for the news!
