I think next game in the series is without a doubt KH3, but it wouldn't surprise me if we see HD collection before then.
^but then why would it say it's a "new number"?

Because it is a collection and will probably feature THREE or more games (fingers crossed for KH1, Re:CoM, KH2 and BBS) and 3 or 4 is a new number right?
I think its a hint for collection and KH3 both.
The first paragraph seems to be hinting at an HD Collection, then the 2nd paragraph is stating the purpose of an HD Collection.
You get an HD Collection, relive the past in never before seen detail by playing it, and then are prepare for the next number, KH3, by playing.

And then there are the credits, the message made by the letters read "this leads to Kingdom hearts" followed by first TAV, then RAX and finally by Sora and Riku walking into light. This could be important because it showed 2 trios (possibly referencing to III) and then when Riku and Sora walk into the light, the light makes a "III" shape.

Yes, because that's what they'd choose to focus on. That just seems really farfetched. Besides, Nomura said that they were looking into remasters, but there's nothing to suggest that they were actually working on them.
BbSv2 was confirmed to be canned for the time being, so as far as we know right now, that game will never come to existence
I have to agree with Luap on this one, that is how I interpreted it as well almost as if the secret message said "The past will be awakened as a new number in never-before-seen detail to Prepare yourself for the awakening of the next number."

I'm not going to pull up the interview right now, but in a recent one didn't nomura say there was a story for BBSv2 that he wanted to tell but there were no plans for a game as of now?
So I wouldn't really count on kh3's release being dependent on BBSv2's release, even if it makes sense storywise to have it before 3, then again we never know, maybe by a slim chance they will make a bbsv2..or maybe they'll implement bbsv2's story into 3 idk

Nomura: It seems that many people thought that, but during that movie there were the words ‘A fragmentary passage’, weren’t there? That means a ‘bits and pieces of something whole’. In short, a story for ‘Volume Two’ exists that ought to be told, but the story cuts off with those scenes. Because of that, I won’t say there is absolutely no chance that we will produce a title to follow KHBBS , but there are no plans as of now.
Nomura's already said he's working on something for the series that is light and like a curveball. Also voiced an interest in a HD collection for the series.
Not to mention he said he was interested in iOS titles (cell phone games) but that could be for anything.
I agree that the secret message predicts the HD collection to prepare for KHIII. Too bad though, I just re-beat KH1, KH2FM+, and BBS. I just want KH to be on a console again. I had to borrow my 8 year old cousins 3ds to play DDD

lol Well I already spoke my opinion on the HD collection. And I could say it again. I'll be damned if I play a "none" final Mix in HD. lol And how would a HD collection even get us ready for anything? lol And tablet/phone games? UGH...I may have to disown Nomura if he does a stunt like that.
Well, Kingdom Hearts coded, a mobile game, exists so I guess you must disown him.
