Foreground effects are nice, just need to work on the background. And adding some more contrast would help.

The main thing that bugs me is the dark curve cutting through the middle of the sig. If you want to use it, make sure you put the curve so that it flow in the direction of lightning.
I agree with apple jaxx about the contrast too. Definitely throw in some darker shades into the background.

Also try to use simpler fonts for your text. The font you chose just seems too bubbly and doesn't fit the style of the sig.

Probably in some gutter.
Play around with the colors. Gradient maps and filters are good for that. Though the colors you have now may work well for whatever the original stock photo was, the current colors seem a bit iffy for a tag. For the brushing: try brushing and erasing, brushing more, erasing more, etc. It will help you get a more concise feel of what you really want.

You just to play around with things more.

It's not bad, just try to work on a few things;

lighting & depth; these two kinda go hand in hand. make it seem as if the light in the tag is coming from somewhere. this adds depth and makes it look better. play around with how to do this (burn/dodge, blur/sharpen etc)

colors: the colors look pretty but work on new color combinations and accenting certain colors

flow: the tag and its effects are a bit messy. if you use the natural flow of the render and match the effects to it, your tags will be more aesthetically pleasing and such :)
