Okay, so in the beginning I chose the sword, and gave up the shield.

And I chose "fast" as my levelling rate.

However, I'm having MAJOR lacking defense. It's almost unbearable. Is sword/staff combo a very bad one?

I wouldn't say it's a bad combo you get more magic faster with the staff, but with the shield you get better defense faster... I myself always took the sword/shield combo...

I wouldn't recommend that combo, unless you wanted a chelleng, I say go sword/shield

weeellll... too late i guess unless you wanna restart the game... i say go and buy yourself craploads of defense items or something until you get your proper defense back :c

Getting back proper defense would take so long... its not until near the final levels everything finally starts to even out again...

lol, no need to apologize, i was just pointing it out (Thats the second time this has happened to me today, lol). There are juist those charts people make comparing what you get every level for each combo, and it takes till near the final levels of each combo till the stats come close to evening out:lol:

not a bad combo but i would go with sword/shield, its more save you get power and defense faster XD
magic is important but not like sword and shield XD

Pick sword or staff, NEVER GIVE UP SHIELD!

If your more magic based, pick staff and give up sword.

If your more attack based, pick sword and give up staff.

Never even go near the shield! It will automatically be set if you just leave it as it is.

I took a sword/staff combo and i love it. I beat the phantom and kurt ziza. Since I am mostly about attacking and curing\wind combo i don`t use gaurd alot, its the best combo for me.its really all bout who you are.

lol, nice. yeah, definately horrible idea to give up the shield.

my own advice, never pick the staff first. i learned magic was eaten away quickly, and then you have 0 attack power after that basically

best combo is take the staff and give up the sword. its the gives you the best overall stats and i love the order you learn abilities with the staff anyway.

unbearable? well on my first play i chose the same combo as you, but i don't remember too much trouble..

anyway i would choose Sword/shield , since a don't find magic too important in some part of the game

expecially in boss fights i don't wanna waste MP to throw some useless fire or thunder...sometimes i do it just for fun

I should have kept the shield.

As stated above NEVER EVER EVER give up the shield.

expecially in boss fights i don't wanna waste MP to throw some useless fire or thunder...sometimes i do it just for fun

especially since no magic spell really did any damage at all compared to what you could throw in a single combo(sometimes a single hit) and then coninue to save mp for curative emergencies

I did the same exact thing! I picked the sword and got rid of the shield, not knowing how badly I would need it in the end... *sigh*
