I don't know is this was posted already, but I thought people might like to know.

What are your thoughts?

For anyone wanting to know without reading the articles the penalties are as follows.

1. $60 million dollar fine to Penn St. (This money goes to charity for helping against child molestation).
2. 4 year postseason ban for the football program(I don't think other sports were affected).
3. Scholarship reductions
4. Joe Pa had his wins slashed from 403 or 409 to 298 or he lost all wins from 1998-2011.

Punishing Paterno was the right thing to do (though, how much can they really punish him, he's dead), but I'm not for the entire program taking a hit. A majority of the people effected weren't responsible at all.

Now I should also add Football Players are able to transfer without losing any eligibility.

I might side with some people into saying they probably should have gotten a SMU penalty(Death Penalty) really this thing was running wild for a good 14 years before anything was done. Plus I said this somewhere else, but a $60 million dollar fine to a university like Penn St. is like fining a NBA player/NFL player like $100,000 to $500,000 they don't feel it for the most part. Depending on who the NBA player and or NFL player is.

They have also removed Joe Pa statue as well I should add.

Really fucking stupid. The town itself is a football town so this is going to hurt. Really dumb to punish a whole local economy because some jackass is a freak.

You know the old saying goes "The good sometimes has to suffer with the bad." at least that's what my grandma would say.

Still I do feel bad for the town I don't wish that on them one bit, but again something had to be done in terms of the NCAA it would make them seem very bias if they didn't. Plus Penn St. is a situation I'm very scared of especially for other college towns where the school is bigger than the well being of said town.

One example is UGA I'm a big GA football fan, but I'm not a huge fan of the school because while it takes up space in the town I live in they don't really help out the local community at all. In fact you'd be surprised Athens, GA(Where UGA is located) is one of the poorest places in GA you probably wouldn't recognize it at first, but once you've been here for awhile ooooohh boy its a sad state of affairs.

Lol I went to Woodward Academy for 2 years which is seriously in the middle of bum ass College Park. Though I know I can relate some more due to the fact that I'm a USC (Southern California) football fan and their campus is so run down its ridiculous that they even get the coverage and student population that they do on an annual basis.

There's really no way around it. I'd argue they didn't go far enough and that the team should have been outright banned from playing for a year so they can get their priorities straight. It sucks for the many that didn't have involvement, but football ultimately is a recreational thing, and they need to be made an example out of to show that this kind of culture where the sport comes first over things that have ethical precedence will not be tolerated.

It's disgusting to think that people from as far down as the janitors all the way up to JoePa himself were aware of what was happening, but chose to keep their lips sealed for the sake of the football team. Awful. And while there probably isn't any other college out there with the same level of corruption, the fact that it could create this sort of mentality is disturbing. They needed to be hit hard.

Football is football. A game. Penn State is going to be a 4-8 team for a few years instead of an 8-4 team, and they won't be in any bowl games. So what? People need to get the fuck over themselves.

That's the thing his record was hit henceforth that's his punishment it was something he held dear, but the thing is as far as I'm concerned he's dead, and his record went into the grave with him. Taking away any wins it won't matter cause as it stands he still won 403 or 409 games. The players didn't cheat nor did he. At least in the regard that USC did the pay for play scandal if you remember. They are at fault for still looking after Sandusky as if he didn't do anything, but that's the way the culture sometimes works.

You don't realize this is a much bigger iceberg then you're dealing with I agree with you, but I'm really starting to believe colleges are more corrupt day by day. Like I said with my example on UGA these guys are able to take up land, but don't really help the people out around this town of Athens. You'd think I'm lying if I told you we're one of the poorest counties in Georgia, but it's the truth that's the scary part.

I wouldn't be so sure on that. USC was arguably the best team in the PAC-12 last year and they were still on probation.

That's a good point, and I think they were stripped of the same number of scholarships too.
I guess it partially depends on this new coach, O'Brien.

But that's exactly why they should have been given the death penalty. If they did somehow manage to turn this around, even if they can't participate in any Bowl games, it's going to be seen as them overcoming adversity. You know, like Penn State is a victim. The entire point of the sanctions will be missed.

I simultaneously can't believe and am not surprised that people are so butthurt over this. Seriously, if my school had been involved in something like this, I would be glad for the NCAA to cut the legs out from under the football program (or well I should say our hockey program, football is only Division II lol). People should be ashamed, it's just a damn game.

I see where you're coming from on that. I mean they were talking about giving Miami (FL) the death penalty last year and they were no were as near as detrimental to their program as Penn St. was.
