Regarding Cid's voice, I don't know why but I could have SWORN he had a voice in KH1. It's been a while since I've played all the way through, though, so I could be totally wrong. I picture him sounding more like Capt. Matthews from Xenosaga than a "good ol' boy."

well, to me it's pretty obvious why square doesn't want him to post the bgm sanctuary intro and end....
look at all people who would give up an actual keyblade just to look at a blank screen playing sanctuary!
publicity for kh2 and sanctuary has skyrocketed to almost celebrity status(in the forum world at least) and that's going to boost sales!I mean, the number one scene that people have been requesting, scratch that, BEGGING to hear from maverick is the intro, just for sanctuary playing in the background. by the sheer fact that maverick has the opening, people have been swarming over him for him to upload it. And further proof that it's sanctuary that is causing the hysteria is that square does not want him to post the intro and ending. What do thsoe two things have in common? Assuming the guy who e-mailed Maverick is truly a PR representative for SE (I would think it would be easy to tell from the @na.square-enix.com *or something similar* in the address - I used to receive their press releases when I wrote articles for a gaming site and it's really obvious when something official comes from them), I would think they'd be concerned about spoiling the song itself. Though, as I said in one of my earlier posts, I doubt MOST of Square-Enix America knows that anybody who has been excited about the game has already seen the Japanese intro.
If I was part of S-E, I'd be more worried about plot spoilers being posted than the theme song, but hey, I could be just weird like that...

maverick i see that someone from SE emailed you. i think they don't want the song to leak out just because they want it as a surprise. like a surprise birthday party that shouldn't be spoken of. they want us to have our jaws drop to the floor when we see the opening. you don't have to post it if you don't want to. but you know if you do, it's the viewers choice whether to see it or not. I think i might wait till sanctuary is out. i want to have my jaw drop to the floor, i've already spoiled every other aspect of the game

maverick, I know that this might make some of you mad so please, PLEASE don't flame me, but I think it would be better of you didn't post sanctuary. Square might take legal action, for whatever reason, and i don't want our constant jabbering for sanctuary land you in jail(well, I don't bother you about anymore. you can post what vids you want,when you want.It's fine with me) on my conscience and I think that goes for all of us. If you post sanctuary, then I probably couldn't help myself from looking at it but I think it would be better for all us to get the sanctuary experience firsthand from the game rather than a recording off a tv( not that they're bad maverick, just that everything is better firsthand). hey, I 'm not telling you not to. It's your game and you can post what you want, but I think all of us deep, deep, DEEP down want to wait for the game to come out to hear sanctuary, even if our heads tell us we want to hear it out, our hearts want to wait. Just keep that in mind in your decision making of posting sanctuary intro. There will be those who will continue to beg you, i'm not because I'll wait and whatever vids you post or not post are fine with me, but in our hearts we will thank you.

^^ he can't go to jail. period, if it's his property, here in america it's your property and his responsibility what he does with it. they can't take legal action on something that he owns, he can upload videos of what he owns if he wants. SE has nothing to do with it. Not only that, if they didn't want something to slip out, they wouldn't have let him have the game in the first place. so there

In reference to your questions... I studied Japanese for 4 years in college and picked up a minor. I don't consider myself fluent and even in KH2 some of the kanji made it difficult, but I got "the gist" of most of the cutscenes fairly easily. The fact my roomie was making me translate at the same time as I was trying to watch them didn't help either.
The way I understand it, no game begins the localization process until its domestic release (in Japan), at least that's what I've deduced from interviews I've read over the years. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, I'm sure there are plenty of people with some experience in both languages that SE could hire to help out with this sort of thing....

Fred - you mean Cid's voice gets WORSE? I, too, winced when I heard the cowboy-esque "Jes't liike the ol' days". I remember him having a really good voice in KH1...what happened? >.<
