Man okay alright I have a friend named Juan or whatever well he's a nice guy and he's silent alot he never really talks well the other day or whatever some teacher finds this blog that he posted on Xanga.com it said basically I wish my teacher was dead but the bad thing about this is they administration is viewing this as a threat but its not because once you add certain words like wish into one sentence it really isnt a threat anymore right? but so the teacher said she accidently found the blog which was a lie because teachers aren't suppose to be off like school related sites bascially right well come to find out someone told her about the site and she looked it up and reported it to the principle and then also what makes this so bad that's his personal thing no one elses right and then he was also at home when he typed it up he wasn't at school so now he is suspended for 10 days for this and is going to a hearing and then also some his friends put on a shirt or wrote on their shirts FREE Juan and now some of them are also suspended and most of us have come to the point that this violates the Very First Amendment Free Speech and it does and also they violated personal space because out of all the sites in the world how would you find Xanga if you didn't know about it in the first place but now we are in the Front page of our newspaper and this might be on National T.V so if you hear about something happening in Athens Georgia at Cedar Shoals High school you know Jinx will be there

But the real question I want to ask does this not violate free speech and his personal and private space and I understand that once it gets onto the internet its not really private but still I don't think teachers should be digging around if you know what I mean and this also isn't the only place this has happen its happen in Chicago and in Occonee Georgia and also another state I believe

But just answer that question for me

I dunno, it's not like he threatened her, he merely stated that he wished she was dead. He didn't say he was going to kill her. Besides, what was that teacher doing snooping around anyway? I wonder if she searched up his name on google or something, that'd be wierd.

But the "Free Juan" thing is even worse. They have no right to get you in trouble because of a shirt, especially one that merely states an opinion.

...o-o

Teachers are allowed to look at Xangas, it's kinda hard to not know what a Xanga is even if you are a teacher. And maybe the student that told her took it the wrong way...so then this means that he was worried for her safety. :/ So yes, it does make sense that she would go to the principal.

btw, posting "I wish my teacher was dead" publicly on a public blog was most likely not smart. I'm willing to be there is a feature that allows for him to only let himself see it, called a privacy function. So in a sense it's his fault.

Though people could be over-reacting. I really don't know what to take on the subject except that there is a lot of over-reacting and exaggeration and such. Bleh, whatever. -.- Hope things settle down a little.

First thing: There's no puncuation! No periods, no commas, I see a question mark a question mark. [/rant]

some his friends put on a shirt or wrote on their shirts FREE Juan and now some of them are also suspended
Exactly why are the people suspended? What was the principal or whoever suspended them's excuse?

I wish my teacher was dead but the bad thing about this is they administration is viewing this as a threat but its not because once you add certain words like wish into one sentence it really isnt a threat anymore right?
It's still considered a threat. People don't always bluntly say things and wishing proves that he was thinking about it which means that he could try and hurt the teacher. Also, is this exactly what he said?
EDIT

Over-reacting is something schools have to do in a sense. My school if someone pukes the teacher has to see it or they say it never happened without some sort of visual evidence.

If its on the internet you can't make an argument of it infringing privacy. It does however infringe freedom of speech. Its not really anyones fault kairigirl, he had the right to say whatever he wants, and unless some physical harm occured, no ones at fault.

You think your school's bad? I'm starting to think my school is racist since we have all the foreigners in one homeroom(even if we're US citizens), all the blacks in another homeroom, and the white kids everywhere else. Its segragation putting people of different colors in different homerooms don't you think?

I think the guy is a moron for posting that on the internet in the first place. To put it simply, you have no privacy on the internet, anyone can see whatever you put on xanga, myspace, etc. and the police definitely aren't afraid to go on sites like those and use whatever they can find to try to put you in the slammer. I think that what the administration did was perfectly right.

A lot of the people in my school are racist. One girl (black) ran away from home and refused to come to school because it's hard for her. There's a kid who's father is with the police, the kid has discriminated against gays and blacks from what I know and gets away with it.

No, that does not violate Freedom of Speech.

For one, your friend is not very smart for wishing someone was dead in the first place, and secondly, for posting it on the internet where the public can view it. Yes, "I wish [Insert random name] would die" is considered a threat when officials get involved. If you start making personal comments like that, that is crossing the line.

As for Freedom of Speech, a democracy depends on a free exchange of ideas. Free speech is limited in several areas though. Hence, you cannot say "bomb" on an airplane. We just happen to be studying Freedom of Speech in my Government class currently.

COLLEGE GOVERNMENT TEXT said:
According to the Court, libel, fighting words, obscenity, and lewdness are not protected by the First Amnedment because "such expressions are no essential part of any exposition of ideals, and are of such slight social value as a step to truth that any benefit that may be derived from them is clearly outweighed by the social interest in order and morality."
So there you have it. Libel, fighting words, obscenity, and lewdness. In your friends case, he probably posted a written statement that defames the teacher, aka, libel. And thus he is not protected by the First Amendment if the teacher decides to take action on it. Blogs are stupid anyway, might tell your friend that.

EDIT--

Read the rest of your post. The suspending of people wearing t-shirts, I don't agree with. The teachers will probably come up with some lame excuse. When they do, tell them it's considered a peaceful protest.

Alright I'll tell you this I kinda typed it up a little fast. I had something else to do for my parents, but this is how it is in a shortern version. I have my friend named Juan or whatever he's never in trouble hasn't done anything wrong and is always silent. So one day the teacher that no one at our school likes decides to put him out of the classroom for talking. Which he did not do and so he went home or whatever and typed up that thing I told you about in the first post I made, and I told you guys also that the info I gave out might not be right I mean this is second hand info that I've gotten, but still the principle Dr. Craft decide to suspend him from school because they think its a threat to the teacher, but like I said when you put certain words in like I wish in a sentence like the one he said on his blog. To me that makes the threat kinda null and void if you know what I mean. Megaflare I get what you mean but to me that still violates a freedom of speech because you can say whatever the F*** you in this country.

You can pretty much say what you want, yes. Unless someone decides "zomgz that offends me Im taking u to court" then you're kinda screwed if you can't back yourself up.

As for the t-shirt thing, tell your principal it was a peaceful protest, nothing more. They have no right to suspend you for that, because that violates the right to peacefully assemble.

The F*** Dr. Craft was a bad move. They would have advantage if they kept it a peaceful protest, but if they've started a bunch of things like F*** So&So then the principalcan combine all the things they've done and call it irrational, unpeaceful. Either you or another person should go to the President (if he fails to listen, go to the Community School Board) about the t-shirt thing.

Yeah I know I told my friend Kelvin he even said the same thing made a bad move or actually they are handling it the wrong way oh yeah also to the adminstration also lied too I don't know if I point this out but they've lied like three times basically one was when the teacher said she accidently found the Xanga website and found the blog you really can't find the blog you've had to go through a bunch of things but come to find out someone gave her the address to the thing and then second thing the teacher said she wasn't going to press any charges again come to find out friend of mine said she really is going to press charges then also like I said before my friends went to talk to Dr. Hill Assissant Principle(which no one likes her and wish she'd also die because she gets on everyones nerves so bad) but they told me she basically tried to change the subject on them by saying different things if you know what I mean

But hey like I said you hear something about Cedar Shoals on National T.V hey Jinx well actually Ray which is my first name is in that school

Take it up to the Community School Board. Don't even bother with the principal. The Community School Board is a higher authority.

The number should be in the phone book, or you could at least obtain it at the community building, for whichever town/city you live in.

Thanks for the info Megaflare I just might do that oh yeah one last thing but there is a big rumor also going around our school that some of the people that got suspended might come shoot up the school basically I'm talking about boys but this is only second hand info I got so I really can't say for sure but the situtation has already been blown out of proportion anyway because like I said we aren't the only school this has happen to Occone County has done the same thing and suspended some of their students and actually some of them students tried to burn the school down to the ground and in Chicago 25 students were suspended for the same thing so if it gets any bigger then I don't know what to except next
