UK, May 9, 2008 - Cult classic Donnie Darko – the film that catapulted Jake Gyllenhaal to fame, re-ignited interest in Tears for Fears and made sinister bunny suits de rigeur for Halloween – is about to get the sequel treatment.

According to Screen Daily, Chris Fischer (Nightstalker, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders) will direct the sequel, to be called S. Darko.

Richard Kelly, writer-director of the original, will apparently not be involved, although Fisher said in a statement, "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality."

Picking up seven years after the original, the plot will follow Donnie's sister Samantha on a road trip to Los Angeles, during which she is plagued by a series of bizarre visions.

Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Darko the younger, while Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star.

S. Darko is set to start shooting on May 18 with a budget of around $10m.

eh.

The fact the original writer/director wont be involved bugs me.

Also the plot sounds like Final Destination 2 =/

wow, erm, I really hope to god that they do not go through with that D:

Donnie Darko worked because it was an original idea :/ they can't recycle that, instead they will just get another weak-ass, wahsed up sequel that kills it. I loved the film >.< they better not **** it up.

D: You know it. I personally hope that this is a horrible horrifying hoax. The original is pretty awesome, and I can't believe they'd actually want to try and cash in on something like this .-.

As long as they go and fail in a new direction and NOT screw up the old one by being like "LOL this is why this happened!" or "Donnie is back naoz wearing bunny mask!" ... whatever... they'll ruin it -.- I'll just pretend it doesnt exist.

i smell butterfly effect 2 (by which i mean, a really horrible sequel)
<_< And butterfly effect 1 wasn't even all that spectacular. Though I never did see the sequel.. hmm..

Well from the looks of it, it is going to be about his younger sister :/ she has visions and shit.

D: I don't care if it is about Donnie's sister though >.< a sequel is the worst thing they could have done and will just ruin it :/

Donnie: beautiful film, psychologically gripping and mentally challenging (to some)

Sequel: recycled crap that seems to be a mash up of every bad sequel going D:

Outrageoooouuuus. My friend and I have cursed more about this than anything else ever.

No Richard Kelly worsens it, also the supposed director for the sequel is total shit.

I saw this the other day.

If I believe it's not real, will it go away?

I'll watch it, but it still really bugs the hell out of me.

The only possibly redeeming feature it can include is Frank.

Because Frank scares me and all my friends.

And he's awesome.

If only >.< :D I shall not believe it too, maybe if all of us don't believe it D: it could work right? ...right? D:

they are going to screw this up and make people cry.

People are already near tears at the idea of it >.< maybe they wont screw it up ^^ it could go well and be amazing 8D

...>.> yeah I don't believe that either.

I'll watch it because it will annoy me if I don't and I want to see how much they **** it up.

>.> Frank shouldn't be in it, there would be no need for him to be in because he was linked to Donnie, there is no real way that they can connect Frank into this film D: without it being hugely complicated and messy.

Though >.> the poster would imply a connection -___-

True, but the alternate ending... Now that was some shit.

On topic, No... Just, no. I agree that Donnie Darko worked because it was an original idea, that can't be duplicated in any way, shape, or form and still be successful. And they really said all they needed to say with the first movie. There is NO ****ing plot to pick up. There WEREN'T any loose ends. This ISN'T going to work.

And who the hell tries to cash in on a cult hit, anyways? Pick something big and important to ruin. You'll make more money that way.

Well >______________> this actually leads into one of my theories about the movie I was thinking about after I watched it two nights ago on a whim. <_< But that's for another day I think, since this topic is about RAGE x3

Quoted for most epic of truths.

There's no storyline to follow. Therefore it's not a sequel really, but a spin-off. Spin-off of a cult movie is just... weird. If anything it should go straight to DVD. But it won't.
