Re: Monster Inc. 2

Yeah, I mean, it's Pixar, so it definitely has a shot at being good.

But still, the point of a prequel is to provide an interesting narrative that leads up to the original. This premise doesn't really sound like that's the goal. I mean, the friendship was only important in the movie because they needed the two contrasting characters to play off each other to help make it entertaining. It doesn't really help build the story as much as it does provide some auxiliary background; which is nice and all, but doesn't seem like it would be strong enough to hold the whole movie.

Personally, I think a better idea for a prequel would be to focus on more on Waternoose. Learning some background on the company itself (since that was a large part of why the original was interesting), as well as how Waternoose and his family created/affected it could be really interesting (especially in the hands of Pixar).

Re: Monster Inc. 2

Plot sounds like the premise for a really shitty Disney direct-to-video sequel.

But this is Pixar so I guess it's worth giving it the benefit of the doubt.

This. Pixar hasn't really made a flop yet, so we can all say they generally know what they're doing

Re: Monsters, University

Yeah I can't help but think a sequel would work out better, since there's more potential for new drama as opposed to being confined to the mediocre setting of a university.

Agred. There's only so much one can do in a school-like setting. It'll probably end up being a flop like Disney's Max Keebler's Big Move....Or even worse, our mortal enemy: High School Musical.....full of crappy school stereotypes and puns, just Monster-fied.

*Shudders with disgust*

With a sequel, though.....The sky's the limit. You can forge more of a story in a wider setting.

Re: Monsters, University

You guys seriously sound like you've lost faith in Pixar. In reality, we only have a setting and a vague plot.

Heck, maybe they chose it BECAUSE it's something that's been done so many times before. I'm sure it'll blow our minds.

Re: Monsters, University

probably has more to do with merchandise than anything, something has to sell off of these movies other than the entertainment themselves which would be a good enough reason to understand why Toy Story had two sequels, and Cars is getting another

Re: Monsters, University

Looks like it could go either way. Pixar has had a bit of a dry spell lately, so i wont get my expectations to high

This looks like it will be a fun ride! I'm a sucker for college-related humor films xD I'm totally expecting a feel-good climax and resolution.

Its funny. Lately people are saying that pixar is starting to lose its touch due to the previous two films not being critical hits. If Monsters university is good, then people will start having faith in pixar again. If its bad, then its only going to confirm the claim that pixar is falling for a lot of fans

Re: Monsters, University

I don't think three not-as-emotional films would really say they are falling. Cars has never been their best, but it sells merchandise and young boys love it. Brave's appeal was in its mother-daughter audience, which it also did well with and I hear that merchandise line is doing fantastic too.

MU's target audience is obviously children, but the fact it is about university life will give it a core audience of college students who can relate a lot better to this life.

Of course the film will be scrutinized, but I don't see it failing and I think it will deliver on an emotional level as well.

Who can hate a film that has an ACTUAL university website?
