I don't think they ever were to begin with, I read an interview somewhere that applying that technology to a full length feature would be too challenging at that time or something like that.

When it was announced, almost a year ago, it was said that it would either be CGI or 2D/3D like Paperman, which is why I thought they had leaned in the direction of CGI after seeing the 2 year bump on the film.

Everytime I see Moana it makes me think Lilo & Stitch. I don't know why. Plus seeing the artwork doesn't help. Kinda hoping there will be a easter egg of Lilo & Stitch in the movie.

Seeing the concept art only makes me more disappointed that this film isn't going to be 2D animation, but damn this is looking like it will be an awesome movie.

Moana has been getting the most buzz as a Disney Princess before her trailer even debuted.
Even Anna and Elsa never gained this much popularity before Frozen was released.

It's a battle between the brain and the heart of a man.

This is the best comparison of the short, it's a tribute to Cranium Command and Reason and Emotion.
It's going to be in the same 2D/CG blended style as Paperman and Feast.
