You can’t retire from the MCU and then be put back in as a completely different character. That cheating.

Not a casting I saw coming, but at least we have multiverse as a possible in-Marvel-cinematic-universe explanation for Doom having his face.
That’s true. Still not entirely if this is Disney trying to recapture the glory days or Downey trying to keep his most reliable gig

I mean, he’s got his own production company at Warner Bros. He was producer on the Netflix series Sweet Tooth, and is involved in the 3rd Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie and apparent spinoffs.

Yeah, I'm sure Disney execs were pushing for him back as Iron Man & this was the compromise the Russos sold them on. I would've preferred Doom being a true MCU native rather than a variant from another timeline.

My hope is that Downey will only be the AU Doom through Secret Wars, but a new actor will play him in the F4 sequels beyond that as the 616 version.
But if that’s the plan, they risk audiences getting used to RDJ as Doom and being resistant to a new actor.
i have never watched any of these movies but if i was a big Marvel guy I'd be so disappointed that they'd undercut RDJ's performance in Endgame by bringing him back to either play a completely different character or some twisted alternate version of himself later on. it smacks of desperation and inescapably hangs over Endgame now, forever

I could wrattle off a list of how many times DC have brought back actors from older projects to newer roles in their recent stuff, but there’s only one thing that’ll make RDJ’s portrayal of Doom different from Iron Man: the writing.
If the film and the character are written well, in a way that can please fans of Doom, this could go well. Besides, Doom is a very different character from Iron Man, so it will be interesting to see what execution he’ll take with the character.
