I greatly applaud the Tibetans for their upholding their peaceful protest without faltering for all of these years, but if it's been half a century so far, I have very small hopes that Tibet will ever free itself from China's grasp anytime soon, if at all. It's truly a shame, but that appears to be the look of things for now and years to come.

Unattainable dreams are the best kind they say.

Tibet will never have a chance of independence as the other minority-ruled regions in western China, it is a matter of time before they are assimilated to the Han Chinese populace.

That's just not true though. The majority of Tibet's impoverished, destitute populace wants freedom and does all they can to peacefully obtain it. the only reason it hasn't succeeded is because they pose no threat to China. They have no military and no other nations to back them up physically because China is a fucking monster in the world economy.

20 people alone were taken into custody by Chinese police for protesting this week. Based on past experiences, it's likely they've all either been tortured or killed at this point. Do you think the Tibetan people are wrong for not sitting back and accepting this? It doesn't matter if the Han population is growing, the whole nation is still being treated as the shit of China, and until that inhumane treatment stops there will always be protest.

If you can not advance your goals through peaceful means, use terrorism or launch a rebellion againist the oppressive government.

Either way they attempt to protest, it gives the Chinese Communist regime in Beijing under Hu Jintao more reason to force tens of millions of Han Chinese from other regions to settle in Tibet.

Tibet is not alone, there is also Xinjiang in the far west of Tibet near Afghanistan where the Ughurs and the various Turkic populations wish freedom but are oppressive by the Chinese authorities.

The world's powers won't do anything to stop them considering China's influence in the economy.
